Marilyn had noticed that. He’d expected the maze to be done months ago.
"…Personal project, then," he muttered, finishing off a few sticky mugs.
He paused, staring at the soapy water. “If you need any manpower, after, I could lend some.”
[text] on the upside I found an AWESOME respite for mug chocolate chip cookies
[text] I meant recipe I hate autocorrect
That was probably why the mugs were sticky. Also probably why Vex had a burn on two out of five fingers on his left hand.
[text] no need for help it's just stuff. i found some old trivia about the ghosts to implement
What kind of "charactershaming" sign would you hang around my muse's neck?
//I'm going to be wrapping up things on this blog and moving Vex over to enigmxchanic- go follow him there, as this blog will be turned into an archive!
"I know how to handle sharp things, Vexy," Marilyn said, rolling his eyes. His voice was a little louder than it had been.
He did keep it away from himself after that, though.
"What have you been doing lately? I see you’re here, so are you taking a break, or working on a more personal project?" He hadn’t heard anything about the maze, but it was fully possible he’d just missed it.
A shrug. Vex didn't really want to talk about the maze, and what had been happening with it- to be honest, it had been taking far longer than he expected.
[text] mainly laying low and trying to fix any programming and internal errors before I go back to mucking around with the machine.
He could argue that it was a break, yes, he was taking a short break until he could go back to doing what he wanted. At least he was at home a little more now.

IC
OOC
I know no matter what you say there’s some debts you’ll never pay.
"…I know. I just—" worry about you a lot and now more than usual “I just know how it can be.” Marilyn laughed, not entirely mirthful, gesturing with a mostly-clean knife at himself. He was entirely conscious of his own scrawny figure, though he was better than he had been, just a little.
[text] don't point that thing
He was sounding like somebody's mother more and more every day. Soon enough he'd be renouncing villainy and helping stop crime in Gotham. Hmph. Time to rob a bank!
Now he just had to wait for the water to boil.

…Marilyn should have thought about the consequences of the silence beyond “not good for Vex, make sure he’s safe”. Namely, that only he could break it properly.
He didn’t manage to until he’d properly filled the drainer with quite a few plates and utensils.
"I can pick up more than pasta after this. Later." He flicked water off one hand and gestured vaguely towards the door. "When you want me to." Awkward and quiet but he really did think Vex could use more, and it was an easy, relatively graceful way for him to tell Marilyn to leave when he wanted him to.
Vex snickered noiselessly, throwing a dishtowel over. As if. He'd finally gotten somebody to come over and save him from a quiet hell. He'd never noticed how much he talked- to himself, to the tools, to the tv when it was on- and suddenly being surrounded with quiet whirrs and clanks was unpleasant. He fished the keypad from his pocket again.
[text] I'm not entirely helpless.
Rethinking.
[text] Sorry
[text] That would be nice.
At least he'd be able to signal an end to their meet-up, as impromtu and awkward as it had been. He'd gotten the pot ready almost mechanically, proving that he had been feeding himself. Somewhat.
It would probably make Marilyn more comfortable, really, as his next word choice showed. “As long as you do it for both of us. Nobody enthralled with their own projects properly keep focused on their health.”
Marilyn didn’t care much, grabbing some of whatever was closest and bringing them to the sink. “Or their surroundings.” Doing dishes generally relaxed him, and he…rather needed it.
Vex nodded and grabbed a pot from the sink. Not much was in it, surprisingly, just a few emptied tin cans and a couple utensils and surprisingly, tools. Those weren't supposed to be in there. Vex lifted them out before reaching up to a cabinet and bringing down a box of pasta, reading the back this time- he could only eat so much burned food- and following the instructions.
He didn't text-comment on Marilyn washing his dishes.
"Vex! Haven't seen you in a while!" The young Sketcher giggled, smiling warmly. "Though I'm not seeing much of anyone these days." He joked, gesturing to his eyepatch. "How have you been?"
"I’ve been good." Vex looks to the kid, shrugging. "Are you okay? That looks like it hurt." That’s said with no small amount of concern- he may be used to patching himself, up, but others aren’t, and an eye injury must be painful.
"I’m still convinced that these kids are going to tattle on you. Because kids talk. Kids talk a lot. Especially if they see someone like the Riddler or Robin.” Crossing her arms with a smirk, “I say that you’re going to start attracting the attention of more reliable sources soon. Attention you reaaally don’t want.”
"Attention of who? The authorities?" Who clearly had no authority over him, thank you very much. "Worst they can do is throw me into Arkham, and I can get out of there easy-peasy. Besides, kids lie a lot." His expression soured for a second before he pulled back, snapping his fingers. "I'll take you down with me, accomplice."
For the purpose of character-building, feel free to send an ask regarding anything you would like to know about my character.
"I could always do much worse you know, besides it’s fun to mess with you a little." Giving him a slight slug to the shoulder.
"Only the bird? Didn’t you plan on having the Bat and the new owners of this place play Pacman?" She could always be wrong, but figured Vex would at least be interested in having a go at the Bat.
"Y'know how I've been letting kids test the maze? Well, 'bout a month ago I made a very poor decision in who I let in. A group of them, didn't see who ended up being Robin- just heard 'it's the fucking Riddler' and then- boom. Neon."
Vex grumbled, shaking a fist at a projector that lay gutted on the floor- repairs, upgrades, even now. "And I kind of lost focus, I guess. Started getting more funds together, sidetracking them so they think I've given up."
