One of Buffy’s traits is that she’s very hard on herself — which also can translate into her being hard on others who are going through similar situations, or people she sees herself in. This episode digs into that tendency as it explores Buffy’s guilt over Angel losing his soul. I love “I Only Have Eyes for You” and its message: “To forgive is an act of compassion, Buffy. It’s not done because people deserve it. It’s done because they need it.”

Sometimes the person we most need to forgive is ourselves.
