idk if anyone’s peeped this too but perhaps my favorite side detail about love victor is that the quintissential high school “it girl” who everyone wants and admires is a black girl. such an amazing choice on the casting director’s part and, as a young black woman myself, so deeply validating that the tide is turning in hollywood and that poc are no longer being cast in the same rigid (and often stereotypical) roles.

so love, victor is adorable and watching the second time through I only loved all of the characters more (except felix because its impossible to love him more than I already did) BUT dear god, poor mia. abandoned by her mother, feels betrayed by her father, and then literally betrayed by her bf. i hate that this happened to her. i just want a s2 to give her everything she deserves ☹

Ok so I just finished episode 7 of Love, Victor and I just feel so badly for Mia! I’d seen gifs of some of it already, but didn’t have the context. The fact that Victor could’ve been there for her, but chose not to go home so he could spend the night in the hotel with Benji is honestly so heartbreaking.

I also think it’s very indicative of the way that queer stories are told when you look at the way both Simon and Victor are portrayed. They are both gay men, but neither of them exhibit any behaviors or characteristics they are stereotypically associated with gay men. There is nothing effeminate about either of them. Meanwhile, in both the film and the TV series, effeminate and stereotypically gay characters are introduced and used to prop up the main character’s storyline and development them further, while still being treated as different and othered from the main character. Why is it that when stories about gay men are being told for a mainstream audience, they are constantly stripped of the experiences and characteristics that most gay men identify with in favor of an all American boy that easier for straight audiences to stomach? Why do we let straight audiences off the hook again and again when it comes to their disgust of effeminate gay men?
