Hello all!
I've been gone a bit. Inspiration for writing dwindled and when I finally got it back, I wanted to work on the novel I started in college. And once again, I hit a snag in the form of growth. I have grown a lot in my writing abilities since I started it (thanks in large part to all the practice I have gotten writing fics!) as has my interests in writing styles, themes, etc. So I scrapped the whole thing and, in doing so, realized that the story I want to tell is much bigger and will take way more work and possibly more skill and study to achieve. I am still working on it in the background, building the foundation so that the story, characters, etc will flow way better.
However, I am still writing now, but for a different book that will be familiar to those of you who have followed me for a while (hopefully those of you I am talking about are still here <3).
I was inspired by my good friend @lilythemadqueen who has been very hard turning her Sherlock fic Mesmerize into a novel that is now set to be released this fall!
I have been in love with Daughter of the Pearl since the moment I started mapping it out! I truly think that it is some of my best work (flawed as it is, as I have discovered recently xD) and I'm really proud of it. I kept wanting to continue it (and maybe I will someday) but after so much writer's block and so much time being away from it, I felt discouraged. But seeing leisha winter chase her dream with mesmerize kicked me into gear.
I went back to my original notes for it and reread the chapters I already have and realized I have so much potential with it to be a novel.
I have a lot of renaming and tweaking to do to it, but it's coming together so beautifully and effortlessly, I'm so happy! It's brought all of the creativity I've been missing for years flooding back. I can't wait to see how it turns out!
That being said, I would like opinions on what anyone thinks the fic was missing or needed. And name suggestions for any of the characters would be lovely! I have some changed already, but everything else is still in the works.
James Norrington is now James Hewlett.
Reader is now Victoria Banes
And Captain Barbossa is now Captain Edward Banes
I'm so excited for this project and I hope others will be too!
I am currently setting up a writing account on insta. When it is ready i will let anyone who wants to follow along on this journey know!
okay that's enough rambling for today lol
When I get a nice AO3 comment or Tumblr reblog I have to force myself not to say "I LOVE YOU PLEASE MARRY ME CAN WE BE BEST FRIENDS FOREVER I'M OBSESSED WITH YOU" and instead say "thanks"
The reason none of my wips get finished
Trying to see something here: How long have you been writing fanfic for?
0-1 Year
1-2 years
3-4 years
5-8 years
8-10 years
10+ years
Don’t write was curious about results
Ok it’s a poll it’s not that serious but there is something funny about the non-writers voting the most and not reblogging the poll to get more results. Like that’s the most accurate representation of fic interaction on this website 💀
hey so tumblr just added this thing (community labels) and by default ALL these category filters are set to remove anything labelled with these from your feed entirely (not just blurred).
Please remember to go into your settings and adjust them to what you prefer! if you're under 18, you won't be able to adjust them as they are set to Hide until you turn 18
this is what it looks like in settings (i have everything set to Show, the default is Hidden)
my dear followers, please do this if you want to read my stuff. I guess you can't see it if you don't do this
Quick PSA, if you get one of those "Work scanned, AI use detected" comments on AO3, just mark them as spam.
Some moron apparently built a bot to annoy or prank hundreds of authors.
There is no scanning process, your work doesn't actually resemble AI writing, it's all bullshit. Mark the comment as spam (on AO3, not the email notification you got about the comment!) and don't let it get to you.
The spam comments have evolved.
They are now also linking to a site they claim is able to scan works and tell you whether they were AI written or not, and that you should do that before reading a fic.
It should go without saying that you should not, under no circumstances, visit a site advertised in a spam comment.
In this case, I'd say there's even a chance that the "scanning" site is actually used to scrape fics and use them for future AI writing. What it definitely doesn't do is tell you whether something was AI written or not. That's a bullshit claim.
Don't use that site. Don't believe these spam comments, whether you get them on your own works or see them on someone else's.
It's all bullshit.

“I don’t expect you will really understand the beauty of the softly simmering cauldron with its shimmering fumes, the delicate power of liquids that creep through human veins, bewitching the mind, ensnaring the senses...”
Things that don't make you less of a writer:
-Writing dark topics/sad or tragic endings -Writing fanfiction -Writing a lot of projects at the same time or just focusing on a single one -Having difficulty naming things -Having difficulty writing dialogue or descriptions or action sequences -Having areas in writing that you find difficult -Only writing in a single genre -Only really covering one topic in your writing -Being scared to branch out of your comfort zone -Never wanting to publish -Being rejected by publishers -Not using clever word play in your writing -Having literal writing style -Writing slower than those around you -Being unable to finish any of your projects you start -Having to take long breaks even though you didn't write a lot -Getting exhausted by writing (it's not that you don't love it, it's just exhausting!)
There are so many more things I can add to this list. Literally every single habit of writers, I could add to this list. These are just some really big ones I've seen people get down on themselves about. So just remember: you are no less of a writer than those around you. Be proud, love your writing. You put the time and effort into it. No one has put the time you have into it, so you should love it more than anyone in the whole world.
Love your writing, no matter what kind of writing it is, no matter how diverse the subjects and genres are... it doesn't matter. YOU made it. You alone.
