“Well I’m sure the opposite could be argued,” Galyn responded smirking at her.  He mostly meant it as a joke.  He took a sip of the drink before considering what she said. “Friendly chat?  I don’t really do friendly chats.  What is it you need?”

“Of course. That doesn’t make them correct though.” Vidia let her smirk widen just a little. “Neither do I. So glad to get that all out of the way at the onset then.” She sighed and took a long sip of her own drink. “You’re a knowledgeable man. Would you have any way of hunting down a... stalker shall we say?”

Galyn rolled his eyes at the individual who came over to his booth at the bar.  He was in no mood to socialize with anyone, especially not someone he didn’t deem worth his time.  Random drunk people at bars who planned on chatting him up were never worth it, unless of course he could get something out of it like money or a business deal.  “Maybe if you get me a drink I’ll consider talking to you.”

Vidia rolled her eyes but set a drink in front of him, matching the one he already had. “Good thing I’m not an idiot. She rolled her eyes with a slight grin on her face. “Relax, you and I are on the same side. I just came for a friendly chat. No malice or ill intent.” It would be foolish on her part.

“Well, if you love it then it’s not necessarily a bad thing then is it?” he questioned. “Good to know your memory hasn’t faltered while we were apart. I would hate for you to have forgotten all the good memories we built together.” His eyes met hers. “For you I would do anything.”

“I wouldn’t say so but there are many people that would disagree with you my dear. They would of course be speaking out of their asses but, to each their own.” A smirk crossed her face, devious and sly. “Actually, now that you’re mentioning it, I feel like a lot of my memory is fuzzy.” Though it would be easy to hear the bluff in her voice. “And I you. I don’t want to hear any bull about how your problems aren’t my problems either.”

“I won’t deny the devilishly good looks part…but I’m not completely to blame for your poor decisions. I just encourage them most of the time.” He leaned his forehead against hers. “Of course I do. We’ve played it many times before. Don’t you recall?” He chuckled and shook his head slightly. “My lips are sealed, love.”

“That you do. You are an absolutely terrible influence on me and I love every second of it.” A slow and easy smile took over her features as he rested his forehead against hers. “Oh I certainly recall.” Vidia sighed and let her shoulders drop a little. “Good. Being soft is too weak. I hate it. But for you, I’ll bear it.”

“Oh, me? That’s awfully bold of you to accuse me of something so heinous.” He smirked at her. “It’s quite a fun game, wouldn’t you agree?” He was about to close in on the kiss then she went for his neck. “Oh, you tease!” he said with a gasp. James pulled her close and pressed a kiss to the top of her head. “I know you do. You always have.”

“Well I don’t see you denying it. I’m just the poor daughter of a politician, let astray by a man with devilishly good looks.” The smirk on her face only grew with a glint of mischief in her eyes. “It’s one of my favorite games. But you already knew that.” Vidia laughed and let him pull her in close. She sighed and leaned her face into his shoulder. “I can’t be badass all the time. Don’t say anything though.”

“A true lady, aren’t you?” He smirked at her. “You can be an animal when you want to be.” He placed his hands on her buttocks and squeeze. “If you catch my drift that is,” he added. “Interesting. Sounds kinda cheesy.”

Vidia rolled her eyes playfully. “Of course. Only the most prim and proper of ladies. It’s you who makes me a bad girl.” She raised an eyebrow at him, a smirk on her face as he squeezed. “So that’s the game you want to play today?” She stepped closer to him and hovered her lips over his as if she was going to kiss him but instead she ducked her head and placed a kiss on this throat instead. “Mhmm. Probably is. But I kind of like cheesy movies.”

“Vidia Allen having manners? What a day.” He glanced up from his phone and smirked at her. “Teriyaki, got it.” He ordered the food that she wanted and then his as well as some fries for good measure. “Haven’t seen that film though. What’s it about?”

“Hey, shut it.” She huffed, and her face scrunched up. “I only do it for you. Everyone else can just fuck right off. Though I’m not some kind of animal. I know how to have manners. I just choose not to.” Her grumpy frown moved to more of a small smirk. “It’s a satirical supernatural horror thriller film. It just seems more interesting than the usual movies Hollywood pumps out.”

James’ nose scrunched up when she kissed it. “That you are, my love.” He took a step back from her to pull his phone out and pull the app up. “Sounds perfect to me. I’ll even let you pick the movie. What kind of wings do you want?”

Vidia winked at him and took a couple steps back, taking out her own phone as well. She had a few messages but nothing that seemed of great importance and more importantly, nothing that seemed off-color. “James Hook is letting me pick the movie? What a day. Let’s watch Velvet Buzzsaw.” She hummed and tucked her phone away, turning it off in the process for good measure. “Teriyaki wings.” She paused and then added, “please and thank you.”

“You have me all figured out, don’t you? It’s mighty difficult to say no to you.” He wrapped his arms tightly around her. “That sounds good to me. I’m in the mood for something spicy. Maybe wings? We could Door Dash some.”

“Mhmm.” Vidia pushed up a little on her toes to place a kiss on James’ nose before settling against him again. “Of course I do. It’s why people keep me around. I’m good at figuring people out.” Most might take her words at face value, but she knew James wouldn’t. “Wings sound great. And not having to actually go get them? Even better.”

James felt goosebumps going up his back and the hairs on the back of his neck standing up when she began to trace patterns against him. It was a sensation he hadn’t felt in so long. “How could I not?” he asked. “No, we’re not. We can at least pretend for a little while though.”

Vidia smirked and said, “You’re right. You couldn’t say no. I’ve just got that magic spell on you.” She laughed and hugged him close. “Hmm, I could pretend. How about a movie and some take out? I’m getting hungry. Though for once I’m not picky. Whatever gets here fastest.”

James set his chin on top of her head. He’d even missed the way she smelled, as strange as that sounds. He’d missed everything about her. “Well, I appreciate it either way,” he told her. “And I care about you. Very deeply. Which means, I too, will worry for you.”

Vidia let her fingers draw lazy patterns on James’ sides. If only her life was as simple as spending time with him. It wasn’t and she wasn’t as foolish as to think it could be so. But sometimes it didn’t hurt to day dream about it. “You better.” She snarked but her words had no real bite to them. No one thought she could have a soft side and she often thought that as well. James had proved otherwise. “With all the bullshit we’ve had to deal with, we deserve down time. Not that we’re going to get it though.”

James felt like everything was falling back into place. He wasn’t constantly looking over his shoulder anymore and he had Vidia back in his life. That’s what really mattered. She was in his arms again and that made him feel safe and secure, like things were the way they were supposed to be. “You don’t need to worry about my problems, love,” he said as he pulled her closer.

Vidia sighed. She wasn’t sure if it was relief or anxiousness but she’d settle on relief. It was the better of the two. She rested her head on his shoulder and buried her face in his neck. It should be easy for her to relax, and it was, but she also always had the feeling of a bird in a cage. Instead, she focused her attention elsewhere, at his words. “I don’t need to. Correct. I want to. I’m going to worry about the people I care about.”

James was just happy to have Vidia back in his arms again. Maybe things would work out this time and he would get his happily ever after. Even if things were slow he would wait it out just for her. “And I’m glad you’re back,” he told her. “And you are mine.” He leans down and gently brushes his lips against hers, his nose touching hers. “I’ve missed you greatly, my dear,” he said before sealing their lips together.

Vidia smiled against his kiss. After all the shit they had been through, she just wanted things to be normal. Well, at least their normal. It was almost a new year and while she would never be what most people considered ‘nice’, she was going to try to be better. At least for James. “I know.” She mumbled against his lips with a grin before biting his lip just a little and pulling back. “I missed you too. I’m not letting anything come between us. Whatever problems you  have they are mine. I know you’d do the same.”

James was finally getting back into the swing of things. Things felt normal again. Vidia was around, work was calm, and the holidays were nearly over. He felt content. He still needed his fix every few hours but that was a demon he planned on battling alone. He didn’t need Vidia or Blake or anyone else to worry about him. He was fine. That’s what he’d say at least. He was currently at his house with Vidia. Soft music was playing in the background and he was swaying with her back and forth. “When was the last time we danced together?” he asked with a smile. “I think it’s been too long.”

This was what she missed. Sure it had been months, a lot of them as far as she could remember, but it felt so much better than she even imagined. Was she still afraid? Of course. She wasn’t sure it would ever leave. But she was willing to push through it for him. Never one to be pinned down it took all she could. But this? Moments like this? That’s why she would do it. Again and again. A soft laugh and a genuine smile formed on Vidia’s face. She leaned her head on his shoulder. “Far too long. But I also like that it’s just us. It makes it special. I’m glad I came back to you. You are my heart.”

“I wouldn’t go thinking I’m anything like Barbie. I’d want to be more of a Fairy Godmother sort of figure if I’m given much of a choice.” She stated with a small shrug of her shoulders. Laughing she shook her head. “I do what I was meant to do, and that’s about it. Now what kind of coffee are you getting? “

“You look a whole lot like her though, but if you want to be the old grandmother I’m not stopping you.” Vidia huffed. She still didn’t understand this woman. How did someone like her really exist? At least Tink was annoying. She didn’t seem to have a flaw to her, though that in itself was sometimes a flaw, she reasoned. “Sure, I have clients who say the same thing. Only they’re doing, no so great things mostly. A large black americano with mocha and blueberry syrup.”

James let out a sigh of relief and ran a hand through his hair. He was a week or two overdue for a trim and he could already tell it was getting too long for his liking. “Well, good.” James was still paranoid that something terrible could happen to her at any moment. “You’re positive you weren’t followed though?” he asked, placing his hands on her face. A sad smile came on his face. “That’s the thing, Vids. There never were rules to begin with. Anarchy doesn’t have rules.” His brow furrowed. He would do everything in his power to protect her even if that meant staying away from her. “How can we be sure it’s safe to see each other though?” he asked. 

Vidia sighed and shrugged. “As sure as I could be. I took a super round-about way to get here just to make sure. Plus I told nobody and didn’t talk about it at all.” A small genuine smile came to her face as he touch her face and she leaned into his touch a bit. Sure she tried to act big and bad and it was usually the truth. But now that she really knew what it was like to be without him, she didn’t want that to happen again. “I mean I just assumed there were rules. You seemed very... unlike yourself when you called me.” She sighed again, though the smile was still there. Vidia reached up and placed her hands over top of his. “Since when have we ever played things on the safe side James? It hurt enough leaving you the first time. I’m not doing it again.”
