Fic cover for @expended-sleeper's amazing fic “Far From Ourselves” - I started this piece many months ago when this fic still had me by the THROAT. I can’t recommend it enough if you like NPC-driven Skyrim fic. The world feels so vast and full. But be mindful: it’s a heavy fic that doesn't flinch away from tackling brutal themes, but so worth it.

A while ago I started thinking about how Skyrim is at the northern extreme of Tamriel, and whether that would translate to them having midnight sun and polar night. I really like the idea (I mentioned it in a short vignette I wrote this spring), so I did some research about how it would play out and how it could tie into Nord holidays.

Midnight Sun and Polar Night Due to Skyrim’s location in the far north of Tamriel, the kingdom experiences dramatic shifts in the amount of daylight seen over the course of the seasons. The white nights of summer, a period of persistent twilight, are experienced as far south as Falkreath. Along the northern coast– in Solitude, Dawnstar, and Winterhold– the summer sun never sets below the horizon between the beginning of Midyear and the end of Sun’s Height.

The reverse is true in winter; the endless polar twilight is an unsettling phenomenon for many travelers to the far reaches of Skyrim, lasting from late Sun’s Dusk to late Morning Star. The reemergence of the sun in the farthest reaches of the north is often seen, appropriately enough, just at the beginning of Sun’s Dawn. During the winter solstice at the end of Evening Star the northern holds experience near-total darkness around the clock. Nords mark the longest night of the year with the Old Life festival, a time of solemn reflection and remembrance; the next day, having made it through the night, they make merry during the New Life festival. The summer solstice is celebrated in kind at the Midyear festivities.

Ok i know everyone hates Delphine but that time when she gives you the party clothes before you sneak into the embassy and she's like "...this is as good as it gets huh" is genuinely one of my favorite parts of the main quest. The disappointment in her voice. You're the hero she needed but definitely not the one she wanted

We can all be honest. Serana isn't cool and mysterious. People think of her that way just cause she's a vampire. She's a little pathetic loser girl. A nerd who is clumsy and awkward with everyone whilst trying to act cool.

And I love her for it. It's my favorite thing about her as a character.
