Unpopular opinion but if you don't enjoy the process you should find a different thing to do.

And I think this is true in general but now I'm talking about it in the context of AI.

If you don't enjoy making art and only care about the end piece and how it'll look and how much traction it"lol get online then making art is not something for you, find something you enjoy from start to finish.

Same goes for writing: if you do not enjoy writing and rewriting and then some more and instead want AI to write for you, being a writer is not something you should pursue.

Sure, not every part of creative process is going to be equally enjoyable but you should get satisfaction from solving the problems along the way and you should get a sense of accomplishment on your way of "making the piece yours" and you should have a sense of ownership once you are done.

None of these things will come from typing in a prompt into chatGPT. And I am sad to see so many people are missing on the opportunity to experience the joy of making something with their own hands and brains.

The Hobbit movies would have been vastly improved by going the same route as the The Princess Bride movie

Just constant cuts to the future with Frodo chiming in as Bilbo tells the story to be like “that’s not how you told it when I was little!” and “wait, you never mentioned these orcs chasing you!”

And Bilbo hems and haws like “well, I didn’t want to scare the children” etc and we see the same scene get replayed multiple times with slight variations as Frodo and Bilbo bicker about the details of what actually happened

(And then we can do an extra gut-punch at the end where Bilbo tells the little kids “yeah, the dwarves were all fine, nobody died, they recovered from their wounds and went on to rule the kingdom” and maybe we get a glimpse of a universe where that happened… but Bilbo turns away as soon as the children are gone and stared out the window while he relives the truth all over again 😭)

Meet Agents Haze and Smoke! Haze is a field agent with his PSD (Psychic Service Dog), Smoke!

Haze (xe/he) is a seasoned field agent with a penchant for pyrokinesis and clairvoyance. Xeir also an artist, and occasionally work on 'True Psychic Tales' with Agent [[REDACTED]]. He also has animal telepathy, but its only strong with Smoke, xeir service dog (who is also psychic, unnervingly so).

Smoke is a 3 year old Borzoi with telepathic, clairvoyant, and hydrokinetic powers. This often manifests in her appearing in places a hip-height dog has no business being (ie, vents) and staring down other agents. She has a telepathic bond with her handler, Haze, and can also control mist to make a sort of 'smoke'. She does mobility and psychiatric work, as Haze has hEDS (a connective tissue disorder) and GED (generalized anxiety disorder).

They can both often be found around the Motherlobe, or hiding out in the Questionable Area. Haze is friendly with the interns, and works closely with Agents Nein and Vodello. Smoke is tolerant of people, but is aloof to most expect Agent Vodello and Sam Boole. She takes an odd liking to Raz, for reasons both he and Haze are unsure of. (Borzois are a Russian breed, first bred and kept by royalty, and I hc Grulovia as being near Russia geographically, so Smoke likes Raz's vibes).

I think we need to start saying amateur art not bad art. the make bad art posts can come across so condescending and demoralizing sometimes which is the opposite of what's intended, like the whole point is that amateur art isn't 'bad', it's worthwhile. your art doesn't have to be professional grade to be worth making or to be appreciated by others

Like say what you want about "bad queer representation", but this was the song that made me openly and happily accept that I was bisexual. Once when I was in undergrad, someone described something as “problematic” in class and our professor was like, “That’s cool, but ‘problematic’ doesn’t really mean anything. It means that the thing you’re describing has a problem, and in and of itself that’s not bad. Art, especially, should always have problems, or else it’s not interesting and not art, either. It sounds like you’re trying to say that this is bad, but you don’t want to say ‘bad.’ Is that right?”

So from then on whenever one of us called something problematic, he would make us talk it out until we could name the “bad” thing we were hinting at. In this particular class, 7/10 it was some type of oppression, and the remainder was like, “I’m uncomfortable because this is very new/confusing/pushing boundaries that made me feel safe.”

Once we stopped calling things “problematic” and stopping at that, class got way more interesting and... we all had to say, like, “that’s racist” or “that’s misogynistic” or “ew capitalism gross” out loud, which a lot of us had never done in a classroom before. Or we had to be like, “Uhhh... I’m not sure what’s so bad?” and confront our own beliefs and that was maybe even more useful.

Anyway. Whenever I see the word problematic, I can’t help but think of this professor being like, “Good starting point, now let’s get specific.” I think when we have to commit to saying “that’s ___” it requires a lot more careful thought about the truth and impact and complexities of whatever we’re claiming. Sometimes there really is some bullshit afoot, and also sometimes it’s art, and it should be full of problems, because that’s what art is.
