Zedâs reaction was seemingly flawless, as if he could see three moves ahead of her. He quickly moves to block her assault, catching the crescent-shaped kama in his blade and throwing her to the ground with a well-practiced spin.
The only thing he could see as he fought her was Shen; how she and any other preferring the ignorance of âbalanceâ left Zed in favor of his order. How Shen continued to elude him, his misfit band standing up to the shadow masterâs literal army of followers and ending the majority of battles in victory or draw. How Shenâs very existence was a testament to Zedâs failure, his inability to finish what he started that fateful day he claimed the temple.  How Shen was always the favoirte son.
Zed planted his foot on the ground behind him and turned to where he had thrown the girl, throwing one of his large shuriken to counter the roll that saved her from the fall and keep her from immediately attacking again.
She fell to the ground with a âthumpâ, attempting to brush off the forceful shove. The woman was much smaller than Zed, who reigned heads taller over Akali. Her thinking seemed suffocated in the heat of battle, beads of sweat forming on the assassinâs tanned flesh. She had to get on her feet, she had to execute him.
Doubt swirled in her mind, something banished from her parental doctrine. She was reminded to stay focused; To never falter. Although, her instincts gave in, surrendering to the darkness that resided in her brain. Why? Why couldn't she beat him? She remembered excelling in class along with The Master of Shadows, but always, he would reign superior.Â
For once in her life, she doubted what path she chose.Â
What was in it for her? What good does equilibrium do?Â
Akali was plagued with selfish emotions, before moving to rise to her feet. Her eyes widened, before feeling a throbbing pain in her midsection. She glanced down, only to see his metallic shuriken lodged inside of her body. Blood soaked through her emerald clothing, a sense of panic invading her sensory. Gloved hands tore the weapon out, discarding it onto the ground with a cry of pain.Â
She couldn't win, he was stronger.
He would always be stronger.
The ninja ripped her mask from her face, revealing her lips to her rival. A bitter taste of blood rose into her mouth, only to spit the liquid onto the nearby earth. One hand applied pressure to her new-found wound, shaky breaths escaping her lips. The pain... wasn't an issue. Failure, was what she feared.Â
Chocolate orbs stared upwardly at the ex-Kinkou warrior, her eyebrows knitting together.Â
Still, she would not speak.
The woman attacked him again, flinging her figure towards him with all of the force she had within her, pushing him to the ground as he did her, though landing with her heel at his chest.Â
iâm the lonelier version of you
i just donât know where it went wrong.

I laughâd a bitÂ
The woman, almost immediately jumping to her feet upon the unstable rooftop. His words inflicted a certain insecurity upon the woman. Never was she supposed to have her guard down, this was what she had been training for. Although, some luxuries she had yearned for. Relaxation being one of them.
Emerald irises narrowed, having been caught embarrassingly unprepared. Usually, this land was left by its lonesome, only disturbed by the spiritual triad of the Kinkou. She began analyzing his wardrobe, his accent, his behaviors. Who was this man? Why was he able to reach such sacred territory?
Unanswered questions swarmed in her mind, before collecting her sanity once more. She could do this, she was born to prevent vermin like him from committing sin.
She did not speak. Tanned fingers reached for her weapons, before darting at the unknown assassin.
The only weapon he had on him was his broadsword. He was training with it solely. Was sheâŠreaching for her weapon? Well thatâs cute. She intended to attack him. Reactively placing a hand on the hilt of his weapon, he froze.
âShe is not your enemy. She is merely confused.â Â a voice spoke into his mind.
Turning he saw no one. He stared at the emptiness before him. With a sigh, he let go of his blade. Turning his attention back to the woman once again, he narrowed his silver eyes.
âYou deaf? I asked if you were of the Kinkou. Iâm looking for Akali, Shen, and Kennan. Know âem?â
"Turn back, for you will only find death here. " Her voice announced slightly muffled at the covering of her lips. What arrogance.... To fight without a weapon? Did he deem her a weakling? Her sandaled heel pressed into the man's midsection, daring to force him off of the rooftop.
"What is your true business here?"

Balance, symmetry, equilibrium. The things she was supposed to protect, the things she held most dear to her. Her duty, to eliminate those who disturb this peace.
She had once known Zed, someone who used to bring a smile to her face, one who she would consider herself most close to, although, her feelings for him washed away with the Ionian breeze, and all that remained in her memories were painful thoughts of nostalgic happiness. She wouldnât show this, no. It would be most selfish of her, as she must sacrifice her desires, for her obligation to unity.
A sharp gaze snapped in his direction, towards the man she once knew, the man who had walked a little too far into the darkness, the man who could not be retrieved. Nervous fingers gripped her twin weapons, palms that couldnât stop shaking, no matter what her brain commanded her to do.
We do which must be done, cut all ties, reside in what you were destined for.
She had nothing to say to him, only death will await The Master of Shadows.
He had long since grown past second guessing his decisions or considering the value of human life, and the very opposite of an exception to this rule was his former disciple; the traitor who chose balance over power in spite of her great potential.Â
Such a sin could never be forgiven, such a coward cannot be spared.
The silence was abruptly broken by the master of shadows, the sound of the terrain being disturbed by his footsteps as he charged her, adrenaline flooding his system despite the eerie calmness in his movements. Her time to react to this rush was cut short as his living shadow, the dark replica of himself, appeared before her, staring down the kinkou ninja before being swiftly replaced by Zed himself; the violence in his eyes evident even through his iron mask as he swipes his blade towards her face.
Dark matter erupted from the earth, formulating the man's figure. She had heard tales of such power, and knew how an unstoppable force as his own would impede the precious balance. She was her mother's daughter, she would not let a traitor defeat her in battle, despite the unknown abilities he possessed.
Hesitation.... Was weakness.
Though baffled by his newfound technique, Akali quickly ducked away from the main path of his blade, only finding a small portion of her shoulder a hindrance. Underneath the cloth obstructing her mouth from view, her teeth gritted together in slight frustration. The assassin reminded herself that he was nothing more than an enemy now, that she held no connection other than he was inferior and needed to be conquered.
She dashed forward, much more gracefully as he would, slashing her kamas as she dived nearer to Zed.
Petals fall from delicate branches, trees shedding their beauty upon Ionia. Akali sat upon a tiled roof, gazing up at the evening sky. Clouds were a rarity, as most nights remained clear. She often enjoyed laying in the outdoors, as it calmed her down from previously stressful situations.
âYou know. Sitting like this is a real issue. I could have killed you ya know.â he appeared, squatting not too far from her. They layout was beautiful. He started taking his time to enjoy what he could. âTell me, youâre one of the kinkou, right?â

"Is that so?"Â
"Then you would prefer to not have company at this moment? I can leave if desired."
" You're company I would prefer, you may stay if you'd like. "
"None today, Akali?"
" Actually, I've received quite the abundance. Most of them aren't exactly..... Desired at this moment. "
" Visitors.... "
