ladyofthefountain:
Laudine blinked in surprise; not many people had heard of her home here beyond vague stories or rumours. She couldnāt help smiling, amused at the other ladyās childlike eagerness. āYes, I do,ā she nodded. āThere is a fountain, and its water have magical properties, yes, but it is not quite so powerful as to bring anyone back from the dead. I am its guardian, in fact.ā
āNo, youāre not!ā Osanne exclaimed, immediately remembering her manners.Ā āForgive me! I mean, are you serious? I always thought it would be guarded by fairies or some mythical creatures... Unless you are one? Not that itās any of my business... Lady Osanne of Lindinis, my lady. Your Highness. I, um,ā Osanne dipped in a curtsy.Ā "I should just stop talking. Sorry.ā The girl bit on her lip, looking at her shoes in slight embarrassment, but her face was still beaming with excitement.

āItās alright.ā Laudine didnāt recognise the woman, but from her clothes and bearing she was clearly a lady of the court rather than a servant. Smiling slightly at the description, she gestured for her to come inside. āIt is from my homeland, Broceliande.ā
Osanne found the name familiar but had to dig deep in her memory before recalling where she heard it before.Ā āYou come from the ancient woodland?ā she gasped excitedly.Ā āMy mother used to tell me stories about it; she claimed to have visited it once but I always thought they were just stories... Is it true that there is a magical fountain that can cure any illness and bring the dead back to life there? Have you ever seen it?ā The girl forgot about her shyness immediately, excited by where her curiousness brought her.Ā
ladyofthefountain:
Pulling a shawl around her shoulders to protect her from the chill, Laudine crossed to gaze out the window as she enjoyed the scent of the incense filling the room. It was comforting to have even this little touch of home, especially when the last few weeks had been full of so much emotional upheaval.Ā
With Lunete having returned to Broceliande for a while, she had no one she felt close enough with to talk about the slow reconciliation with Yvain. Ironically, she found herself missing Esclados, her first husband; though theirs had been a political match, not a love one, he had always been a good friend to her and offered sound advice.Ā
A knock on the door was a welcome distraction from her thoughts. She glanced over her shoulder and called out, āCome in.ā
Osanne peaked into the room almost as if she was afraid of what she might find inside.Ā āForgive me,ā she said, noticing the woman who was standing by the window.Ā āBut the smell coming from here feels almost enchanting...ā She didnāt know the woman but she didnāt look like a sorceress to Osanne.Ā āWhat is the land of origin of this scent, if you donāt mind me asking?ā
Being so far from home for so long was difficult; much as she had come to like Camelot, Laudine still missed Broceliande. She missed the forest that stretched away as far as the eye could see, filled with so many colours, she missed her city, its pillars and marble so different from the stone buildngs here. She missed the warmth and food, the music that always seemed to fill the halls. She missed everything.
She still had some tokens of her home with her though and, feeling particularly homesick as the cold weather began to set in, she went through her belonging until she found the wrapped parcel of incense sticks she had brought with her. Setting up a dish, she set them inside and used a small piece of flint to set a spark that began slowly burning.
As the smoke spiralled upwards she closed her eyes and breathed it in; the warm, familiar scent was comforting and a small smile touched her lips as she began to relax.
Osanne was walking down the corridor when a strange smell caught her attention. Usually she would probably just keep going, but this was so new and different, it made her slow down until she eventually stop, looking for the source of the scent.Ā
She realised it was coming from behind a door of what was most likely a guest chamber and she knew it would be unwise to try and sneak into someoneās home. Still, it was hard to resist the smell and she found herself reaching for the doorknob before, in the last moment, she collected herself and knocked on the door. She wouldnāt want to raise alarm.
thecountessinwaiting:
She nodded thoughtfully. āI find itās best to stay as positive has possible. Else the world would soon wear you down. Itās not always easy but if you can keep smiling, you should. Thereās already too much hardship in the world.ā She chuckled at Osannes comment.Ā āWell I do love surprising people. I love seeing their reactions.ā
āThat much is true,ā Osane smiled brightly.Ā āSay, would you care to join me in a game or on a walk around the townās markets? I think we both could use some friendly company.ā
kay-antor:
āYes, exactly. Thank you.ā Kay sighed, and opened the door a fraction to check the hallway. It looked empty. āI should go. Apologies for disturbing you. And arguing with you.ā He paused, wondered if he should leave it at that, but keeping quiet had never been one of his strong suits.Ā āI do care, you know. I want to help people. But I also want to make sure this kingdom is still here in ten, fifteen, twenty years to be able to help people.ā
Osanne laughed, shaking her head.Ā āI think we are both to blame for the argument, no harm done,ā she assured him.Ā āIām glad you do. It would be bad for us all if the knights of the Round Table didnāt care about the people. But Iām going to hope that - perhaps - there might be someone out there able to help the people right now. You know, while you work on improving the kingdom in the long run,ā she added as to not anger him again. She knew she wouldnāt stop what she was doing.
kay-antor:
āAlright.ā Kay had no wish to start another argument with her, but criticism of Arthur was certainly one thing he wouldnāt tolerate. It was a relief to be able to move on. āOn becoming a knight, or bothering me for today? I doubt anything will convince him to give up the former. Heāll hopefully give up on me specifically as soon as he finds someone else to annoy.ā
Osanne laughed lightly.Ā āWell then, I hope it happens soon. Both of those,ā she added sincerely.Ā āWe wouldnāt want someone to keep you pointlessly from your work for the kingdom, now would we?ā
thecountessinwaiting:
āYou take it correctly. That is precisely the situation I find myself in.ā Reyna felt her smile widening as the woman spoke and couldnāt help the giggle she gave.Ā āThatās exactly how I interpreted it as well. When I pointed that out to my aunt, she had a face like thunder. It was all horribly amusing. Iād love to meet the person who coined it and thank them.ā
āFor someone who clearly hasnāt always had it easy, you have a wonderful outlook on the world,ā Osanne smiled appreciatively.Ā āPerhaps one day you will find them and be able to thank them, I bet they would be rather surprised by that,ā she chuckled.
morfyddferchurien:
āTo be completely honest I have no idea what the native accent is. I just noticed your voice is a bit different than mine, is allā Morfydd replied,Ā āCamelot is truly a fascinating place, I must sayā
Osanne chuckled.Ā āIt truly is,ā she agreed.Ā āSometimes you can hear languages so foreign they donāt even write about them in our books around here, itās amazing. And they all seem to live here in harmony.ā While there were other nations whose only aim and intention was to destroy others to their own benefit, she thought,
kay-antor:
āWho knows? Itās so hard to believe, given how much I drip with charm,ā Kay replied in a flat, dry voice. It was an odd thing, being aware of how abrasive he could be and yet despite his best efforts being unable to change it. When he attempted to be more pleasant and agreeable it just came off as awkward and stiff. āOf course I have,ā he said immediately. āThatās what he spends most of his days doing.ā
Osanne nodded.Ā āOf course he does...ā she bit her lip.Ā āI didnāt mean to say he doesnāt do enough or anything...ā She felt like everything that she said was somehow wrong. She tried changing the subject.Ā āSo, do you think that man,ā she motioned towards the door,Ā āis every going to give up?ā
morfyddferchurien:
āI came from Rhegedā Morfydd replied,Ā āIs the accent obvious? Iāve heard so many different types of voices while here! Thereās so many people here in Camelot. What about you though? Where do you come from?ā
"I've never been that far up north," Osanne smiled once remembering her geography lessons. "Well, I sort of got used to people in Camelot mostly not being from Camelot, so I suppose I automatically assume everyone is from somewhere else," she chuckled. "I come from Lindinis, Somerset. Does my accent give me away?"Ā
kay-antor:
āThen what is?ā Kay asked exasperatedly, no idea what she wanted from him and pettily wanting to point out that she seemed to have no problem disregarding his point. But he bit down on his tongue and took a deep breath, clamping down his anger that after starting the argument she would dismiss it as not mattering and at her simplistic solution. If only it were so easy.
He gave a sort of grunt of acknowledgement, eyebrows flicking up and mouth twisting to one side.Ā āNo, not very,ā he said, too tired by it all to find it particularly amusing in this moment, though at another time he might have.Ā āBut itās not like Iāve ever been their favourite person, so it didnāt change much.ā
"And what could you possibly do to fall out of their favour to begin with?" Osanne raised her eyebrow in amusement. Clearly the man didn't care too much what others thought of him and she could imagine some of the nobles might have an issue with that. "Have you tried talking to the King about this?" she asked with a little shrug. "Surely heĀ could try and convince them."
thecountessinwaiting:
āThank you. Itās always nice to know I have friends here.ā She tucked a lose strand of hair behind her ear.Ā āApparently, one or two people have been referring to me asĀ āthe countess in waiting.ā She told me that quite gleefully thinking it would upset me but, as I say, it simply amused me.ā
Osanne couldn't help but to chuckle. "I find the term rather endearing," she pointed out with a smile. "I take it you are a countess by right but also a lady-in-waiting for your aunt, then?" She could put two and two together. "Then, technically, you are sort of waiting to be the countess you rightfully are, so you truly are the countess in waiting. See, it's actually clever." Though she was right this wasn't what they meant, Osanne found the word play amusing and hoped Reyna wouldn't feel offended by her description.
thecountessinwaiting:
Reyna shrugged.Ā āIt depends.Sometimes she can be nice but, more often than not, she seems to forget sheās my aunt. Sheāsā¦.I think sheās jealous of me and that influences her actions.ā She sighed but then smiled.Ā āI do hide from her sometimes but today Iām not. Iāve just come from her. She actually amused me though she had intended to insult me. I guess it backfired.ā
āWell, if you ever need to hide from her again, you should seek me out and Iāll help you hide,ā Osanne offered.Ā āSo what did she say today that amused you though she meant to insult you?ā she asked curiously.
thecountessinwaiting:
Any apprehension she may have had about Osanneās reaction was alleviated but her words and she nodded in appreciation to the other woman.Ā āAnd thank you, Lady Osanne, for you understanding. Staying with my aunt is aā¦challengingā¦form of sanctuary but a sanctuary nevertheless.ā She smiled at her kindly.Ā
āSo I take it you and your aunt donāt get along too well?ā Osanne guessed, giving the girl a compassionate smile.Ā āDo I know her? Is she too hard on you?ā She lowered her voice.Ā āAre you hiding from her right now?ā
morfyddferchurien:
āI never realized my sense of direction was so poor before I came hereā Morfydd said with a laugh,Ā āIām Morfydd. Thank you for being so kind to me Osanneā
Osanne chuckled.Ā āPlease, we need to help each other out, donāt we?ā she smiled.Ā āWonderful to meet you, Morfydd. Where are you from?ā
