Riley Gaines tied Lia Thomas for FIFTH. Behind FOUR AFAB swimmers. So Riley Gaines placed FIFTH. And if Lia Thomas had not been in the race, Riley Gaines would have placed . . . FIFTH.
every major structural social problem right now is basically "we don't have enough skilled workers on the ground" and the reason is always "well we've been intentionally underpaying and understaffng them for decades to increase corporate profits" and somehow the news always just mentions the "shortage" without digging into the cause
air travel is a mess? shortage of air traffic controllers - for some mysterious reason
logistics a mess? shortage of truck drivers - for some mysterious reason
public transit can't meet demand? shortage of bus drivers - for some mysterious reason
We even mysteriously have shortages of doctors, nurses, teachers... FOR SOME MYSTERIOUS REASON
FUCKING PAY PEOPLE AND HIRE ENOUGH STAFF
Yes and: Make education more affordable and achievable!!
The destruction of public and higher education and the degradation and subjugation of workers has been an active part of conservative policy for more than fifty years.
Related: when conservatives say "no one wants to work anymore", what they mean is "no one wants to give up a substantial portion of the fruits of their labor in order to enrich an idle capital-holding class".
Destroying pension plans, attacking social security and unions, opposing childcare, opposing maternity leave, school vouchers and underfunded public schools, "tort reform," defanging the NLRB, DOGE and labor protection agencies like OSHA, work requirements for Medicaid and welfare, relaxed child labor laws, prison labor, detainee labor, opposing student loan reform, abolishing public sector student loan forgiveness, and "draining the swamp" by laying off career government employees. Trump's anti-immigrant policies are hollowing out several other important industries, agriculture being just one.
TRUMP IS NOT WELL. This rally is a bust. He’s seated. He’s mixing up major details. He just claimed he pardoned a farmer in prison for seven YEARS for fixing a tractor.
He was as a diesel mechanic in prison for seven MONTHS for tampering with emissions. Trump’s mind is mush.
FOOL, we all know this did not happen!!! Your mouth is moving so we know you are lying.
That story, of course, is a complete lie, and it has nothing to do with Democrats. It has everything to do with the computers in new farm equipment and intellectual property rights. It's John Deere and other corporations that are responsible. And they clapped? Fools.

"The Keeper's Watch: Why We Preserve the Old Stories"
I read the notes you leave here on the bar. The same two questions always seem to find their way onto the parchment: Is the tavern a real place you can visit? And am I just playing a character?
Well, of course she is a real place. And you visit her exactly like this, right where you are sitting. She might not have physical doors for a little while, but she is a sanctuary. A quiet place tucked away from the absolute grief of the world. We leave the modern drama and the bollocks at the door.
As for me... I'm not much of an actor. My wife and I live and breathe this space. I am exactly what you see: an old bastard keeping the hearth warm and telling the old stories.
And that right there is the crux of it all. We tell the old stories, but we do not change them. We don't twist the folklore to fit whatever the modern world is currently angry about. We just keep them. There is a profound, quiet magic in simply preserving a tale exactly as it was handed down to us. When we preserve a story, we preserve the breath of the people who originally told it. We keep their fears, their hopes, and their warnings alive. If you constantly rewrite the past to make yourself comfortable, you lose the compass entirely.
The tavern is a living being. She breathes with the spirits of those who hold her dear, and she safeguards those unchanged tales. The more patrons who find her and sit by the fire, the bigger she grows.
I am just her keeper for now. But ultimately, you decide her fate. You decide whether she brings her stories back to the light, or if she sleeps again once I am gone, waiting for the waking world to finally need her again.
Welcome home, traveler.
From one grumpy old bastard to another, keep the old truths alive and SlĂ inte mhath.

Except it IS America. Our Glorious Founders baked a systemic shit cake, and in 250 years the only finger we've lifted in response to the screaming need for change is the middle one.

Hard to believe this, but they’re even going after the Mormons now. It’s time the LDS church wakes up to realize there won’t be a seat at the Christian Nationalist table for them either. In fact, they may be on the menu.
Dear First Presidency and Quorum of the Twelve:
OK listen up, you short bus full of rotting, wrinkled raisins. The Dominionists don't like you. Oh sure, they'll use your votes just as they do with the JWs and Adventists, but in the end you're all just heretics who need burned at the stake. Which is exactly what they'll do when they seize power with your help. Except for your Islander and few other unwhite members. They'll just lynch them.
