The Progress of Chuck Robinson and Dopetry 

I had the pleasure of meeting Chuck Robinson my freshman year of college during the filming of a cypher session.  From the time we met, there was the understanding that we were definitely going to work together in the future.  Today, both Martians Media and Dopetry are on higher levels because of hard work. 

I went to Chuck’s spot a few weeks ago to catch up with him and his brother, Dennis K. Noda, about our next shoot and upcoming music.  In the process of brainstorming, we went back to the first photo shoot we did together about seven months ago. 

Progression and hard work go a very long way and I find it amazing to see my peers stay on the grind.  Looking at the pictures, all I could say is “I should of shot this from that angle,” or “I should have given him more head room in this shot.”  We came to the conclusion that everything is an experience and progression is always the end result.  Of course me as a photographer now is going to say my work from seven months ago needs improvement.  

Chuck and Dennis are the exact same way because their music gets better every time I sit on a studio session.  Their upcoming project, Laced, is absolutely crazy and I personally cannot wait for you all to hear it.  Because the two are perfectionists, they are planning a release in of May 2016.  Trust me, the wait will be worth it.

Rez Nov is Off the Ledge

“I don’t know about this bro.  If you fall, what the hell am I going to do?”

“Bruh, I’m not going to fall so stop trippin.’”

Going up to Atlanta is always an adventure when I’m with my brother Rez Nov.  Since we were in high school, he has been the reckless, risk taker out of the group and not much has changed. Because of that, I assume I’m the responsible Martian by default.

After a day of exploring the city, Rez told me about a spot where we could see a nice amount of the skyline.  Being stuck in Valdosta all the time, I always become a sponge to the city life and atmosphere.  As an artist, the sceneries become so inspiring and spark imagination.  I cannot wait to take my talents to Atlanta full time.

Meeting 'Atlanta' Star, Zazie Beetz

Childish Gambino.

I can honestly say Childish has been a significant music artist in my life.  As an aspiring film industry junkie, I respect his love for not only the music, but the ability to wear so many hats in one career.  Well known as Troy from TV series Community, or as a prominent writer on 30 Rock, Gambino is deciding to go his own route in television. 

Leaving Kirkwood to go to Little Five Points, me and Rez Nov spot this very attractive young lady in all gray walking with such a dope persona.  We both admire how nice she looks but before I could even say anything about it, he pulls over to ask her if we could take a few photos for our portfolios.

I’ve heard the rumors about light skinned women in Atlanta so I honestly did not know what to expect.  She turns her head toward the car, smiles and happily agrees to taking a few photos.  

She tells me her name is Zazie. Then explains to me how she is an actor from New York, down in Atlanta because she is filming for a television show.  I quickly tell her my aspirations to be in the film industry, then ask what show are they filming.  Zazie tells me it is a show entitled ‘Atlanta,’ and my eyes light up! 

After asking many questions, she said they had been filming for about 3 weeks and the episodes they have finished, are excellent.  Zazie told me Gambino really wants to highlight black people in Atlanta that aren’t necessarily in the trap wave.  I’m looking forward to the FX show, and proud to see Mr. Glover still doing his thing.

How Good Sleep, Turned Into a Great Shoot

Unlike 96.34% of college students, I like to think of myself as a morning person.  However after an all-nighter at my homie Tre's apartment editing a music video, waking up before 11 AM was definitely not on my list. Just like the rest of my life, that did not work out the way I planned.

It is 8 AM and I hear my phone ring.  Who in the world is calling me this early on a Friday?  I fell asleep about an hour prior to the phone call so when I heard the ringing, I did not even bother looking to see who it was.  I go through a zombie mode and contemplate whether to roll over and go back to sleep, or see who it is because it may be an emergency. Grunting from frustration I roll over and check my phone to see who called.  It's Lo who is always up at the most random times of the day.  At this point I figure because I'm slightly awake, why not call back to see what he wants.

I call Lo sounding like a zombie from an apocalypse, and he has the nerve to ask, "What are you doing?"  In my head I said, "What the hell do you think?"  Knowing myself, I probably just said, "chillin," out of habit for that question.  He explains to me how Lauren and a group of other cool people we are trying to do a photo shoot, but are also in need of a photographer.  At this very moment, I knew what the next question was going to be and said yes before Lo tried to bribe me.  He tells me he will be in the apartment complex in about ten minutes.

I slowly get up off the floor and begin to gather my things.  I check for all of my basic needs such as my camera, SD card and laptop, brush my teeth and head out to meet Lo at the car.  He sees me and immediately asks if he needs to buy me some coffee.  It had to be the most rhetoric question of 2016, but I said it would be appreciated.

We pull up to a spot close to downtown Valdosta and I see a group of hipster college students with Lauren by her car.  I introduce myself, and of course it's an awkward interaction initially with a group of hipsters, but I felt a cool vibe from everyone present.  The scenery sparked my creativity immediately and the caffeine from the coffee gave me the energy I didn't have.

Starting the shoot with Lauren, Casey and Cynthia in the spot that caught everyone's attention first gave everyone a chance to lose any in front of the camera jitters. Lauren came up with a few poses and from there everyone became comfortable and the shoot turned into all of us having fun.
