You know that feeling when you don't know what you want? When you're unsure of yourself, your ambitions, unsure about what the hell you're going to do with yourself? That feeling you get when someone asks you what your dream job is, what you want to do with your life and your brain just draws a blank.
Now take that feeling and turn it into a danny phantom au because I have no emotional maturity and one (1) obsession
Danny experiences ghost obsession fluctuations.
This is something ghosts can sometimes (rarely actually) experience. Their priorities shift and outlook on the world, and as a result their obsession also changes. It's quite a dangerous thing, as obsessions are what anchors a ghost to existence, and messing around with it can cause some pretty bad issues. Ghosts don't tend to have fluctuations often, as they are emotionally static beings in general, remaining unchanged as decades pass, an image of who they were in life. This does not mean that they cannot learn and change and grow, it's just a bit (a lot) more complicated for them.Theyre just stuck in the past.
Being half human, Danny isn't really like that. He changes and grows and all that jazz (hah,woe, Jazz pun be upon ye) but most importantly, he's a kid. A fourteen year old who's previously relatively normal life was violently derailed in the most unexpected way possible. His emotions are going to he messed up af. And his priorities have changed too.
And so, his ghost form just takes this messy cocktail of emotions and breakdowns and manifests it in the form of obsession fluctuations. His obsession changes. A lot. Depend on on his mood mainly. It's painful and unpleasant and leaves him different than he was before every time.
But the times when he's empty are the worst.
There are days when he's goes on feeling nothing. Every time that obsession, or really, the lack of one, comes around all he can feel is pain. But he's numb to it. It's blinding, white hot, excruciating, and by all means, should rip a blood scream right from his throat. But it doesn't. Even through all the pain, there's nothing. He feels nothing.
