Mephiles as a whole is very objective. Most of his views he considers are unbiased and based on truths represented by 10,000 years of living. He has a very misanthropic approach and has high nihilistic tendencies.
A MISANTHROPIC PERSON does not like PEOPLE and expects the worst of them. It would be MISANTHROPIC of you to say that every human being is a greedy, selfish liar. The Greek word for human is anthropos and misein means “to hate”, so to be MISANTHROPIC is to hate humans, to consider them bad or wrong. [layman’s terms: disliking humankind and avoiding human society.]
NIHILISM is the point of view that suspends belief in any or all general aspects of human life that are culturally accepted. Most commonly, nihilism is presented in the form of existential nihilism, which argues that life is without objective meaning, purpose, or intrinsic value. [layman’s terms: rejecting all religious and moral principles in the belief that life is meaningless.]
Mephiles follows a very realistic approach to thinking of humanity, . He bases his notions and goals based solely on objective evidence and facts rather than bias and opinions. His misanthropic personality comes from 10,000 years of moving through timelines and watching history play before him in several different outcomes. He noted how humanity’s selfishness is a big part of its self-destruction and that they are power hungry. He tampered with a few timelines to see how unjust humanity was and decided that he would take the chance to rewrite it as he wanted.
However, this notion itself is quite hypocritical because despite it being somewhat fact, not all of humanity is selfish and he’s developed a bias for those power-hungry as a whole. His goals could be considered objectified as he is doing them based on the fact that humanity will destroy itself anyway, but some of what he is pursuing is based on idealistic views on humanity as well, based on his opinions formed throughout 10,000 years. He formed an opinion of them as time went on but passes this off as again, an objective view. If you call him out on it, he will simply claim that humanity’s selfishness is a fact not an opinion. But it's a mix of both and can be deemed hypocritical.
Mephiles is very calm and collected. It is nearly impossible to read what is going on behind that facade he has fortified over the 10,000 years of living. Mephiles is considered to have a very stoic personality. He shows nothing that could be given to others to feed off of aside from the negative traits he sometimes wants people to take in (generally when he’s intentionally trying to get a rise or being unnaturally cocky). Mephiles' manipulative abilities are greatly heightened due to his innate ability to appear falsely affable and unnervingly humanistic. He can persuade most unbeknownst to his existence that his entirety is for humanity’s benefit when the truth is he is manipulating the other for further gain in his goals or bluntly trying to derail humanity as a whole.
Mephiles by definition has SADISTIC TENDENCIES.
A SADIST is a person who derives pleasure from inflicting pain or humiliation on others.
Due to his sadistic nature he derives enjoyment from various forms of physical and psychological torture as well as enjoyment from humiliation and shame. Breaking other characters into feeling guilt for actions he caused is another exploit he loves to take advantage of. He’s studied and developed various surgical techniques to further his advances and to bring about more pain.
SONIC NEWS NETWORK TRIES TO DEFINE MEPHILES AS A COWARD.
Taken directly from Sonic News Network I am here to debunk some of this into my own head-canons of his personality. (I know strategy can be defined as cowardly, but I am trying to explain that MY MEPHILES is not a coward. He prefers to take the strategic methods rather than going in gun-ho.)
First point, Mephiles never met Sonic face-to-face. But due to the fact he was well aware of his existence and his ties to Iblis’ release, he at some point STUDIED Sonic to get a better in-depth understanding of his character. This by no means makes him cowardly. He strategically chose to avoid physical confrontation. He plans in accordance for everything and has fail-safes in case things go off schedule. Once Silver failed to kill Sonic, he calculated that on a one-to-one he could potentially kill him, but he had only a bit before reinforcements could potentially show up and that left his chances at a lower percentile than he felt comfortable with. So in terms, he took a more strategic turn rather than upright cowardice. This includes the distraction. He needed a way to quickly stop the other in his tracks to fail safe is own plan. Second point, Mephiles is weak to light-based attacks. Shadow’s own chaos energy being polar opposite of his negative chaos energy is exactly what he could potentially be at the mercy of. Knowing he is adamantly weaker to the other’s chaotic abilities he again took a more strategic approach to ensure a win (or attempted win). Shadow’s not only got long ranged attacks he has a brute strength that sometimes cannot be matched, so attacking behind is his way of having a safe guard as well as using what is at his disposal (much like infinite using the phantom ruby or Eggman using machines which doesn’t make either of them COWARDS). Third point, manipulating Silver isn’t cowardly. Its smart and goes back to his sadistic nature. He wanted to pin blame and ultimately Silver’s worlds own downfall on silvers shoulders. Because the sheer humiliation is delightful to him. That is not cowardly and the final point, is biased based on poor voice acting (yeah i said it).
Mephiles is a full reigned deity of multiple dictations. He was/is the hive mind of the sun god Solaris worshiped by the people of Soleanna. Yet he is a god of time, able to morph and bend time to his will. He’s may not be able to completely destroy time as he could as Solaris, but being able to move through it can cause ripple effects which ultimately makes him a god of time as well as a god of the dark. Able to move and bend the dark and shadows to his will is enough to dictate him as that as well.
Mephiles is immortal. And his only PHYSICAL weakness is light chaos energy. Being a being with no organs, bones, skin, etc chaos energy is the only thing able to penetrate through his darkness and leave actual marks and actually hurt.
Intelligence is the strongest thing Mephiles has at his disposal (aside from his actual powers which will be touched in another post). Mephiles has studied every direction of study you can think of. Psychology, sociology, chemistry, alchemy, botany, neurology, surgical practices. ANYTHING. Aside from creative fields (like art, drawing, fiction, games, etc.) Anything that can fuel his lust for knowledge he’s read. He’s traveled infinite amount of timelines gathering collections and collections of data from the Gaia’s to Echidna’s tribe and history. Everything he studies, he studies because having a diverse understanding of the world is what he ultimately craves the most. He speaks nearly every language known to man and can spit facts about anything necessary. This is why he does some of the cruel things he does because his thirst for knowledge can become unstable and he will do whatever to get what is necessary. This is a big part of why he’s in search of a phantom ruby. So he can study its properties and nature and use it to fuel his own goals.
Mephiles is a being who may not have a material form at all. He has a great deal of shape shifting skills that allow him to turn into different forms of matter, like liquid or gas, or even take another person’s appearance by absorbing that individual’s shadow. Subtle differences are applied, however, such as a far darker shade of various colors, a pale complexion, and bestial green eyes. Mephiles can manipulate and move through time with an ability similar to Chaos Control. In addition, he has enough control over his abilities of time manipulation to separate pursuing enemies, as evidenced by how he managed to escape Omega and Shadow after their first fight in the future. His primary offensive technique is a massive sphere of black energy that is spawned from his hands that home in on their targets. He can also use the energy spheres to move himself and others through time. Since Mephiles absorbed Shadow’s shadow, he also can actually be his shadow, as seen in the first boss fight against him. Furthermore, he can alter his physical form to sink into the ground and merge with the shadow of another. He can also manipulate shadows to create “clones” of himself, although they are warped and imperfect without the power of the Chaos Emeralds. He can also merge the clones together to make large shadow monsters. With two Emeralds, he can create an army of perfect clones. Mephiles can also blast opponents away by firing shock waves of energy at them. Mephiles’ final attack used before fusing with Iblis to become Solaris was a beam of energy that he extends from his right hand to kill Sonic. This is the chaotic lance and his accuracy is on point.
Mephiles is a shapeshifter/mimic. He can copy ones visage simply by studying them. He studies his opponents to be sure he can perfectly match their personalities along with their physical appearance. If he manages to penetrate ones mind (which he can do if his blood gets into your system) he'll be able to almost perfectly mimic your muse as he'd have access to your memories and personality.
Prefers long distance fighting as a lot of his attacks are aerial or throws, but he will do hand to hand combat in close quarters and he is remarkable skilled, unlike in 06.
SOME OF HIS CLOSE QUARTER COMBAT SETS INCLUDE:
Brute Physical Fighting - This is mostly in a way fist fighting, fighting with just his hands and feet. Kicks, punches, slamming his opponent. This is used in offense and is most commonly used to gain footing, disorient, or create spacing. Shadow Moving - Dipping himself into the shadows and popping up behind or in front of other’s in a way to give him better access (kind of like how Shadow chaos controls). He sinks into the dark abyss underneath and can shoot himself out in rapid succession.
Mephiles’ blood is probably the one thing that gives him so many advantages. Just like him, his blood can work itself into a liquid, gas and solid form depending on how he uses it. The smokiness from beneath his feet is his blood in a gas form and he can manipulate it into semi-solidified forms (still partially liquid/gas but flexible and able to attach and grab things) as well as completely crystallize it. Even the blood running through his body can be used in such a way. He can cause wounds just to release blood and he can pretty much morph it into various types of physical weapons. His blood is just essentially his true form.
WEAPONS SUCH AS:
If he whips blood from his arms he can completely harden it into crystallized daggers. As well as launch semi-solid beads of blood that can launch out spikes as well. He can use the blood in his arms/hands as well to make crystallized weapons whether he goes for a scythe shape or sword shape and use that for close quarter combat. One technique he has in terms of his bloods abilities is what he calls the bird cage. Basically with every force of blood accessible, he can shoot it into the ground and launch it up and harden it around him and the opponent basically putting them in a crystallized bird cage. He only uses this if he’s going for a quick kill or to knock/disorientate them quickly. Due to most of his blood being part of the cage, hes left pretty much only with chaos abilities (though hard to produce because it consumes a lot of energy) and physical combat.
Being able to manipulate blood is a heavy strength especially when comes to controlling another person. There are multiple ways in which Mephiles’ blood can give him strength over other people (at mun’s digression).
First and weakest is surface control. If he managed to get any of his blood beneath the skin (not deeper then the first layer of skin) he can control your muse much like a ventriloquist a dummy. He can move and force your muse to move and do things like a puppet master. Though your muse has a better chance of fighting it since it is just beneath the skin, he still has a lot of ability with this. (imagine it being like blood bending from avatar though not as fluent). Second is if his blood gets into your blood stream. This is his prime ability. Once in your blood stream it can travel your entire body. You could potentially be 100% at his mercy if he wanted. He can control your every vein, your every muscle and can even effect organs. Usually if he does this he’s going for a possession (which again will be noted below). He has entire access of your body if his blood runs through your veins and he will show no mercy. Perfect fluidity like blood bending from ATLAB.
His possessive abilities stem from the blood running through your veins as well as what he intends to do. He has two styles of possession. Half Possession and a Full Possession.
A half possession is when he injects his blood into his victims body (whether they are unconscious or conscious) and searches their heads. This can come off as a nightmare or your muse can totally be aware of it. He can look through your memories, your emotions, short and long-term memory, and the like if he wants to (and depending on the muse and how much they fight). A full possession he will go into his true form and go into your mind himself. If he entirely goes into your mind he can pretty much gain almost complete control. But he is susceptible to physical damage as per what the muse receives. So i.e if his grey slams their face into the concrete, he will feel it like it was his own pain. This full possession he does is very RARE and it is hard to control, so please be warned if you decided to ever try this with me.
Mephiles can heal other people. He won’t do it, but being a god; all gods have the ability to heal (at least thats what i head canon). Because he is not a god OF HEALING it will hurt your muse.
Mephiles is very skilled and proficient with chaos energy and its mystical abilities. However, he mostly works with the negative energy of the emeralds rather then the positive energy. He can create lances of pure energy, he can create shockwaves and he can manipulate the energy to his discretion.
WEAKNESSES
Mephiles visibly does not have as many weaknesses as he does strength. Being a deity, most notable for his immortality and as well as his near invincibility. He does have a few things that directly effect him though such as:
Light chaos energy/Positive chaos energy is his weakness. Its like being singed and burned. It causes him pain and if used with enough force it can cause semi-permanent damage to his hedgehog or crystalline forms (ie he can't heal or harden). Chaos energy if used enough can burn away his bloodcells and if enough is burned away, he cannot use it to make tendrils, hardened spears, or daggers. He can still use pure negative chaos energy in the form of a lance or dark chaos spears, but he feels its not as effective. He is also weak against electromagnetic impulses. The same impulses used in the energy project that failed and the same impulses that kept him sealed (along with positive chaos energy) in the scepter of darkness. Despite having a weird reaction to technology (as seen in his first scene in 06) he also has a bit of electromagnetism radiating in himself. He can mess and distort technology, but technology-based prisons can do the same.
UNKNOWNS
There is currently no knowledge of whether the phantom ruby effects him. He has seen one but hasn’t directly been exposed to its effects. So until this is discovered, I’m going to leave its idea open.
MEPHILES STORY
Mephiles was a deity. He was the will of the sun God Solaris which at one point was but a tiny flame that during the festival was used to light the large torch. During that time people could come and pray to Solaris for everything they needed in hopes their prayers would be answered. Despite them being but a flame, Mephiles could hear these prayers for years and his detest of mortals slowly started to blossom after so many prayers for materialistic items like clothes and cars and constant prayers for wealth.
The Duke of Soleanna started the Solaris project which was meant to use the Sun God's power as an energy source. But it failed, blowing up what was once the castle and separating Mephiles from Iblis. They two escaped into the world. That was the original story of Solaris and that was the story of the Universes main timeline.
During the events of Sonic 06 multiple separate universes were created in the events of time being messed with. Each movement from the past and present and future created multiple universes all according to the butterfly effect rather than affecting the main universe, which follows a single steady flow of time that cannot be altered. The events of 06 caused a circular paradox where some events could not happen without another triggering it. Mephiles would receive a glimpse of these back while he was part of Solaris. He would regain memories of future timelines and became self-aware that he was potentially about to become a part of a paradox that was necessary for his life to be what it was about to become
After the project and he was sealed, he was sealed by an unfamiliar face and name. However, this presence and identity lingered in the back of his head and actually had some physical imprint on him. After the scepter of darkness was shattered and he met the same person, Shadow the Hedgehog, it was then he realized that his existence was tied to that of Shadow and that their existences were connected by this repeating mess of corrupted timelines that made the time paradox. Shadow only sealed Mephiles, because of Mephiles being freed. Mephiles met Shadow when he sealed him. But Shadow met Mephiles when he was freed. Mephiles became aware of this, he was aware of how history was going to play out and he followed his path.
The rest of the events of Sonic 06 played like normal but rather than changing time like the games portrayed their time traveling simply created multiple universes. Mephiles only manipulated Silver to do his bidding because he was AWARE that his existence could collapse if he didn't. Mephiles followed the timeline played before him as vague memories that he had during his time as a flame to ensure a similar fate. Towards the end of Shadow's story, Mephiles manages to convince Shadow that the world would turn against him. His Shadow abandoned his world and left it at Mephiles' fingertips. Mephiles killed his Rouge and destroyed his Omega. During the last story, when Mephiles killed Sonic. He also made sure to kill Elise as well. When he fused with Iblis and became Solaris time collapsed. When time collapsed, his Shadow was forced back to see the death of Sonic and Elise who were the only two caught in the timeline fracture. Shadow then managed to gather the chaos emeralds alone and defeated Solaris by himself. When Solaris crumbled, Shadow went to blow out the candle but because he was not related to the royal family or bloodline he could not pick up or open the case to Solaris' original flame. The timeline eventually cracked and fractured and was rewritten to correct itself and the only one left alive in their timeline, was Shadow. Mephiles was not destroyed, but rewritten into a timeline nearly 10,000 years in the past where he then spent those 10,000 years traveling the multiverse and establishing his convictions against mortals.
Mephiles goal is to wipe out humanity in its entirety and his plan? To forcefully combine the alternate worlds created by dips in the main timeline into the main timeline itself until time itself completely collapses forcing the universes themselves to collapse in on themselves wiping out all life. As a deity, he will survive and go to a world beyond life, but this is what he strives to do. And he plans to take Shadow the Hedgehog with him. So he can live a permanent life of endless suffering in the void of nothingness.
