OKAY so I finally took the time to write a follow up to this rant after having replayed the Fujieda route. This time, I've played this with someone that has given me a bit of a different perspective, and having taken that into consideration as well, I'd like to talk about it.
Firstly, all of my previous points about how Fujieda treated Towa, especially at the start, all stand. He had selfish reasons for pursuing Towa, and had little to no regard about Towa's own health while pushing to learning about his past.
His actions were very detrimental to Towa's owm health and he didn't care at all about that.
The rape scene, again, is NOT at all ooc and I will stand by this on my grave. He needed to project his anger onto the only other person he could blame to having a connection to the mansion and Maya.
What better face to blame than her own son? Raping Towa with the intention of torturing him, knowing damn well he couldn't have been an accomplice age wise is horrible.
Then again, maybe you could say Fujieda's judgement was clouded over by anger and misery. Point stands that I think he's a horrible person for doing this with this intention and refusing flat out to apologise.
Then again, that's a personal bias.
And here I'd like to rant about not apologising. Because, as I've gathered a different perspective, I've come to realise- Yes, it matters to me, the viewer, the consumer.
But would it matter to Towa? Realistically, Towa himself wouldn't care for things like that, so really, would an apology hold any meaning from his perspective? Would it change anything?
The more I thought about it like Towa, I realised..Not really?
Now, for the mansion scenes. I do think Fujieda walking out on Towa is horrid and terribly inconsiderate. Even if he himself had a rough time, leaving a victim ALONE after having gotten the information you needed is cruel.
I stand by this, he was in no way qualified or even close to knowing what the hell he was doing in "handling" Towa.
Towas suicide attempt is another thing I'd like to go over again. It pissed me off that Fujieda's reasoning for Towa to stay was his sister, because it felt like Fujieda didn't care at all for anything other than his own situation.
Thwn I considered what my friend told me, and again I thought. What would Towa think?
I was thrown the question- "Would any other reason make Towa stay?" and it hit me. Because the answer to that, is a simple flat "No."
It's been established that Towa isn't scared of dying, he's aimlessly floating. Why would he have a reason to stay aside from this supposed form of atonement? Not wasting the life Mei left him?
I guess that made me think, this was in a way Fujieda's own way of apologising for everything. His oen atonement.
Now, I can't say the same for the bad ending, I think Fujieda is a complicated and complex character but I don't think I would change my mind about the way he handled a person in clear distress.
Towa is clearly not himself and not in his right mind, and Fujieda going straight to having sex with him is disgusting. At least to me.
Do I like Fujieda? Ehhh, much said. I still don't like him as much as the rest of the cast and I feel he and Towa don't have much chemistry.
Still, it was good to find a new way to view this.
