∟ Chaos walking trilogy by Patrick Ness
We all fall but that’s not what matters. What matters is picking yourself up again.
this movie is going to give me a heart attack
anon suggested i’d draw something chaos walking-related, so i found this wip and decided to finish it, i am sorry (based on this)
OK!!
Ok ok ok ok o k a y
Daisy Ridley has been officially (by ‘officially’ I mean that I saw the info on imdb which is a pretty trusted source) confirmed for the role of Viola which is in my subjective opinion not ruddy okay.
Look, Daisy Ridley is now 24 years old which is 10 years more than Viola. Therefore even if they make her face look younger and somehow they hide all those muscles she’s raising now for the next SW episode she is still going to be a grown ass woman of 24 ruddy years old and nothing changes that on a psychological level. I mean, she’s a good actress and her fans call her the gift for the universe which must be protected and I don’t doubt her talent I just think she is really too old for this role.
The point of Chaos Walking trilogy isn’t about two dorks saving the world, it is not about how hard was that for these two dorks and how they didn’t have enough food sleep rest or how they had to make awful choices. It is about two 14 years old pups (one of them was pretty sure in the first book that he is 12) who managed to save the ruddy planet, two little pups who had been chased by the ruddy army, two c h i l d r e n who had to travel miles and miles ALONE ABSOLUTELY ON THEIR OWN. Some 14 years old today can’t even handle the housework and Viola killed a man because she wanted to save the soul of the only one person she had in the world and she was just a child. She plunged a knife into a man’s neck being a 14 year old. I just personally believe that only a girl pup can really understand what Viola had experienced.
You know, I want to see this process of growing through the movies and through the first movie so badly. I want to see confused and pure children in first 10 minutes and I want to see how they grow and I want to see these old eyes on young faces. I want this evolution which was in Harry Potter series. Like I really have to hold the tears when I see the pictures of young HP cast compared to the pictures of them made during the time of shooting The Deathly Hallows. And I’m aching for the same thing in Chaos Walking movies. I want them to take 13 year olds and I want to look at these kids in the last movie when they are about 18. And just if we assume that the last movie will be shot in 2021 or something like that Daisy is going to be 30 years old. Are you kidding me? God, I want this movie to be perfect I want every detail to be noticed and be payed attention for. I don’t want it to be another Mortal Instruments movie. I just want things to be done perfectly. I’m so worried they will represent the universe of Chaos Walking in a wrong way.
Viola must be an awkward teenager with long arms and legs and childish cheeks and childish voice because it was a girl who had seen so many people die including her own mum and dad, who had seen the most heartbreaking farewells of the closest people in the world, who had lived in fear of death on the absolutely unknown planet. It was a heavy injured girl who had killed Aaron and then had been shot and had spent substantial time thinking her life is going to end in a minute. It was a girl not a woman.
You feel me?
What she says: I'm fine
What she means: The Chaos Walking series by Patrick Ness really draws you into a false sense of security with reference to the ages of the characters, particularly Todd, Viola and Davy. In The Knife of Never Letting Go Todd tells us that he is 12, soon to be 13 which shocks the reader until it is relieved that New World has an extra month every year meaning that, as Viola explains, he is actually around 14 by the way we measure age. While this is a significant step up from 12 it is worth noting that 14 is still very much a child and that Todd and Viola are both still children. Even Davy who is around 16 by New World ages and so possibly 17/18 by our standards is still incredibly young. I feel like that's something that's very easy to forget while reading the books due to the acts carried out by all three characters, especially Todd and Viola and for me personally it was not until I finished the series that it hit me that they were still CHILDREN, something that to this day has left a lasting impact on me. I feel like that's one of the most powerful things about the trilogy and if Daisy Ridley is cast as Viola it seems to suggest that they are aging Viola up to be, presumably, around 16-18. This, I think, will remove some of the impact that having 14 year olds being engaged in the themes that Chaos Walking presents to us. Not only this but I would assume aging Todd and Viola up into their late teens may be done as 14 may be seen as too young and not morally acceptable to show on screen. However if we think that 16-18 is an acceptable age rage to fight in a war, be tortured and witness the attempted genocide of an entire species what does that then say about us a society? How are the films going to handle this? I need answers.
I need to draw these kids more often.
chaos walking aesthetics | [8/?] Modern Todd/Viola/Lee
“’Think of it this way. If you can reach them and we can take care of the Mayor, this could all be over today.’
Lee squints into the sun. “And if you don’t take care of him?”
“’Well, then, you’re just going to have to come rescue us, aren’t you?’”
the colored version ^^ this scene is so simple but i love it??? ~viola and todd “the ask and the answer”~
“Not all male writers” you are right. Patrick Ness would never do this.
