"What do I do with someone like you?"

“Huh?”

Kasumi stopped in her tracks and pivoted on her heels. ‘Someone like you.’ She ran her hand through her ponytail, twirling her hair around her fingers. Someone like her, hmm? She locked eyes with him, trying to puzzle him out.

“What do you mean by that, senpai?” she said, “I could ask you the same question.” She smiled and broke from his gaze, continuing their walk towards the school’s gym. Kasumi had been given permission to use it for training whenever the mood struck her, provided it wasn’t already in use.

“I think you might be the one overthinking things today. Are you feeling alright?”

If there’s one thing he comes to respect out of the metaphorical gate, it’s that go getting attitude of the girl’s. “Let’s just say a helluva lot of dedication, a good kick in the ass but also just having that– fire. That kinda feeling that burns yer gut until ya do what’cha need too.”

Jealous? Even with that infamous title now drawn to his name, that managed to stand out, causing confused brow to raise as he rubs his knuckles against his jaw.

”The hell is there to be jealous about? You’re out here working yourself to the bone much as I’ve been. Can’t be so quick put down the hard gains you’ve been makin’ yourself.”

Sumire smiled, softly. Ryuji’s words were so encouraging and his energy was electrifying. She stretched her arms high towards the sky, flexing her fingetips towards the fluorescent lights above them.

“That’s very kind of you to say,” she replied, “I have been working hard but I still feel like my goal is just out of reach. It’d be easier if I were--” Sumire shook her head, trying to dispel those thoughts. They weren’t helpful and they certaintly weren’t of interest to her friend.

“I simply admire you as an athlete! You have great strength and stamina and you never seem to stop training and growing.” Sumire leaned closer, whispering conspriatorily.

“How do you keep your energy up all the time? Please share your secrets, master!”

“Who am I?”

The young girl blinked in surprise. The question itself wasn’t strange, and the answer - well that was obvious to her, if not the stranger. Yet... she hesitated.

“I’m Kasumi Yoshizawa! It’s lovely to meet you!” she chimed but something felt wrong. Just slightly. She couldn’t put her finger on it but the encounter left her feeling like the world had been skewed ever so slightly off-centre. How very odd.

Kasumi shrugged off that thought and smiled, holding her hand out to the young man in front of her. If it was important, then she'd surely remember after all.

“Sakamoto-senpai, what a surprise! Here to train too?” Sumire beams up at Ryuji. She springs upright and scuffs her foot againt the gymnasium floor.

“Oh this, it’s just a little warm up...” she mumbled before raising her head to face the older boy, “I’m sure I could learn much more from you. You’re always in top condition, how do you do it?”

“I’m honestly a little bit jealous, Sakamoto-senpai!”
