So, sorry this has been sitting in my inbox for months, anon, but I wanted to give a good answer. So, here are some UsaMamo fics I recommend. It’s not an exhaustive list, as there’s so much great stuff out there (including some great ones I’m sure I haven’t read!) Also, the authors on this list have all written a ton of amazing stuff. I tried to narrow it down to my absolute favorites (which was damn near impossible), but all of their stuff is worth a read! Also, this list is loosely divided into seasons from the original anime. Enjoy!
Healer by Patch - This is an old one, and I think Patch’s last complete work. The only place I’ve been able to find it at is at this index where you have to click on each chapter’s file (but it’s pretty easy to follow; they’re all, for example, “healer1.txt). A really interesting take on Serenity and Endymion’s story. Also, if anyone can find this somewhere that isn’t an Oocities archive, let me know!
Obligation and Desire by @uglygreenjacket - This one shows up on a lot of recommendation lists, with good reason. There’s a sort of a classic fairy tale romance element to it that’s just lovely. One of the fics I read early this year (after being away from the fandom for some time) that made me realize amazing stuff is still being written.
Gilded Silver by Antigone2 @idesofnovember - A super sexy take on Serenity and Endymion’s relationship that expertly addresses everything that’s wrong with the womanizer Endymion/virginal Serenity trope.
The Reveal by @kasienda - A series of shorts all exploring different ways Usagi and Mamoru’s identities are revealed to those around them. Kasienda continually comes up with creative ways to write about this moment!
First Truths by Lilac Summers @lilsum4 - If you were around the fandom in the early 2000s, you’ll remember this one. A classic retelling of Season 1. If you haven’t read this, you need to.
A Matter of Trust by Stormlight - Another oldie but goodie. An alternate telling of the Dark Endymion plotline.
Final Truths by Lilac Summers - A sort of companion fic to First Truths. An alternate telling of the R break-up. I remember reading this back in middle school and being obsessed, and it still holds up today.
Conversation by Sean Montgomery - A touching look at a conversation between Sailor Moon and the future King Endymion on her visit to Crystal Tokyo
Quirks by Vievere - You know how we all have that one old unfinished story we would give our left arm for an author to come back to and complete? This one is mine. Set in both the post-Stars universe and Crystal Tokyo; King Endymion and Mamoru switch bodies and learn an awful lot about themself. There’s one chapter left unwritten and it hasn’t been touched since 2014, but it is still so worth a read.
Déjà vu by @floraone - If I had to pick one fic that got me back into reading and writing fanfic, this one is it. All of Flora’s stuff is amazing (and picking just a few to highlight here was HARD), but this one’s special to me.
Private Emotion by Kurichan1666 - A wonderful explanation of some of 90s anime Mamoru’s non-affection showing tendencies using Japanese culture and a real anecdote.
Forget Me Not by Antigone2 @idesofnovember - A delightful little memory loss fic in which Mamoru isn’t the one afflicted (for once).
The BIG Wish by Lilac Summers - Another oldie that I thought was so risqué when I read it in middle school, which is hilarious in retrospect because it is very, very tame (but still quite cute).
La Douleur Exquise by @floraone - FloraOne’s take on the sex pollen trope, in which the break-up arc lasted beyond Stars. Brilliant, sexy, and amazing.
Repercussions by Pearl Prynne - Brilliant fic that examines how the R break-up affects things in Crystal Tokyo.
No One’s Fault by Patch - So, much like Healer, this one is on the Oocities archive site and requires some digging around and messing with links, but I think it’s worth it. King Endymion and Serenity face what’s probably their greatest challenge. Start here and just change the number at the end of the link (to nofault2.txt, nofault3.text, nofault4.txt, nofault5.txt, nofault6.txt, nofault7.txt, and nofaulte.txt.) Same as with Healer, if anyone knows anywhere else it can be found, let me know.
Phantom by @irritablevowel - I recommended this one recently, but I’m including it here as well to keep all my recs in the same place. Sailor Moon has retired, and Mamoru is back in Tokyo after some time away.
