I have to say the journey from “oh I’ll reread A Thousand Cuts for the first time since 2022 (when I was very much not married) during the great AO3 blackout of 2026 (when I am very much married) since it’s the only fic on my Kindle” to absolutely bawling while finishing Chapter 26 shouldn’t have surprised me the way that it did.

To be clear, I don’t think this means it’s immune to criticism, but it will never be normal to me that I feel like I have to intentionally avoid fandom in order to enjoy any new content.

I have a whole personal soapbox about how some of the in-fandom criticism of Bridgerton is rooted in the same internalized misogyny and intellectual snobbery that is often directed at other feminine-coded interests (e.g., the romance genre in general), but that is a conversation for another day.
