New Era University is a private institution that is run by INC or Iglesia Ni Cristo members. It was founded in 17th of June 1975. In that time, New Era University was first known as New Era Educational Institute, and was located at Echague, Quiapo, Manila.

When I first study at New Era University that is now located at Central Avenue, Quezon City, they asked me, “Why do you want to study there? You’re not even an INC. You don’t belong there.” I simply answered, “I enrolled there for I want to try and experience something new.”

I have always wanted to study here in New Era University. When I passed the entrance examination, I felt very excited. I knew I will like it there. Studying in New Era University satisfies my needs and wants. All the teachers there are well-educated.

New Era University taught me things that has a great impact in my teenager years. It taught me how to greet people with a smile, even though you have problems. Here, I learn how to value things such as friendships. Teachers there are so well-trained and well-educated that they even forgive students who failed them.

New Era University focuses in improving student’s skills. Abandoning is not in their vocabulary, for they never abandon students who are in need. That is why they have education for students who have special needs. It also teaches good manners and right conduct.

Students of New Era University are respectful. They greet each other with a smile. So if you will study here, you will change, but for the better. Because New Era University is the home of New Beginnings!

Exhausting Hours

“You maybe tired and exhausted, but at least you woke up today. Someone else didn’t...” - Unknown

Well, it’s always been an exhausting day for me. Always. I’ve been missing so many classes since the research started. I’ve been sleepless since it started. My mom was kind of worried. She saw how tired I am, every single day. She saw how my eyes darkens as the days passed. I have been handling two researches, Filipino and English subject, and I am the leader of the both subject. It’s not that my group mates are not helpful, it’s just that, they give tasks on the same day, and had deadlines on the same day also. We have this two extraordinary teachers who are indeed good teachers. But we’re having a problem about how they teach us. In our Practical Research subject, our professor often asks us to pass things she haven’t taught yet. Then, after we passed our papers, that’s the time that she’ll teach us how to do it. It’s not that I’m complaining about her teachings, it’s just that, the money we spent in a wrong papers, the late hours we spent in front of a computer, it was all wasted. Then, we have this Filipino teacher who gives us tasks without teaching us anything. She’ll just say, ‘’Do this, then pass it to me, next meeting.” Then, after the distribution of cards, our grade is below 75. How’s that? She never taught us a thing, and she still have the guts to give us grades that low? How discombobulating and frustrating.

 Things are falling apart. Things are getting worse in my everyday life. I wanted to sleep, but this problems are preventing me to rest. I will sleep with a heavy burden inside me. I haven’t slept in peace for a long time. They are good teachers, indeed. We just want them to teach us things before we do it, so we won’t be wasting money on something that is wrong.

  I want to say sorry to my 7:00 am subject teachers, for I am always late. Sometimes, I attend in second subject. I hope they understand. I will make it up  to them when our defense is over. I just want to say that, we, students, also want to rest. We’re not robots, we get tired, we get hungry. We’re fresh from high school, we still need to learn a lot of things. Yes, I understand, we’re supposed to be college students. But, a little lift will do, so that we can also cope up to the activities they do in college. Make our tasks harder, little by little, not in one blow, for it might fall apart. We might fall into pieces. Schools nowadays focus on how to be an employee, not an employer. They tend to talk more about how to get good grades, not how to be the boss of a company someday. But, as a student, I am still hoping we can change that.

Pampanga’s Specialty

I have this favorite food, and its called Tocino. It’s made of pork meat slices cured in salt, pepper and garlic. I started liking this food when I was little. That’s when I came home from graduation in Elementary. Mom cooked it before attending the ceremony. Tocino is as tasty as hotdogs and as sweet as a candy, but not that kind of sweet though. Ever since I tasted it, it became my favorite above all other food. There are other foods that are delicious too, but for me, Tocino is the best. It has this unique taste that I can’t resist. Even when I just ate mirienda, when Tocino is served, I don’t care about my weight. 

 Pork tocino is usually served with eggs and fried rice for breakfast. It was originally from Pampanga. Tocino is best made with pork butt, but that doesn’t stop me from eating it.

Rest Little One

 I had a dog named Powpow. She’s a Siberian Husky. My father bought her when she was still a 2 month old puppy. That time I was so happy. She’s so cute as a teddy bear. We had so much fun together, even though I only bathed her, once in a blue moon. I didn’t mind her dirtiness. I like her smell when she had not taken a shower. I so love her to the point that she sleeps with me every night. But that was when she was still nothing but a cute little puppy. By the time she reached the age of 6 months, she still sleeps with me, but not beside me anymore. She was tied on the cylindrical metal of the bed, and there she sleeps and it’s alright with her. She wakes me up every morning, she was kind of my alarm clock. But she wakes me up by licking my feet. Powpow and me enjoyed each others’ company. Since she’s a Husky, she tends to shed her furs very much. When she’s already 1 year old, my mother suggested that transferring her in the cage might be a better idea, for it’s hard to clean her scattered furs around the house. So, I did transferred her. Even though she’s in the cage, once in a while, I let her out to play and to let her stretch her legs. She run and run and run around the house. Then, when she’s tired, I put him back in the cage and gave him water.

One day, we went to province, we needed to leave him in my aunt’s house. By that time, she was already 3 years old. Sadness spread across her face before we left her. After several days, my aunt talked to me and said Powpow wasn’t eating much. Water isn’t enough. I panicked. After few more days, we went home and gone to my aunt’s house to fetch him. But that time, she was already sick. My parents tried visiting a veterinarian, and there they found out that she might be suffocated because of the heat. We got her back home, feed her every day, gave her medicines. But days passed, she got weaker and weaker. One day, she can’t stand firmly and she tends to bite people including me. She was so friendly that she can’t even hurt a cat, but then, she turned into something I never expected. More days passed, she was just there, lying, howling in pain. Every night, I woke up because of her crying. I couldn’t stand it. It hurts so much that I prayed to God that let her rest for she is too tired. November 10, 2018, Saturday Morning, before I went to school, father came home, and he told me that Powpow wasn’t moving. So I run and checked and there I confirmed she was dead. I thought, she was just waiting for my father to come home and then she rest. That day was so painful. I can still remember how she looked like before I went to school. I finished the day thinking about her. By the time I got back home, she was nowhere to be found. My parents ask someone to take Powpow’s body and buried it somewhere. 

Now, I have a new dog, and his name is Chuchu. He’s a Shi tzu. I promise myself that I will never again leave my dog somewhere far from me. Chuchu sleeps beside me for she does not shed furs, and she stays small.

Educational Trip

This blog is about our educational field trip. First, we went to “Museo ng Pampangulong Sasakyan” in Quezon City Memorial Circle by riding a bus. There we can see 16 different kinds of cars that was used by former presidents of the Republic of the Philippines such as Gloria Macapagal Arroyo, Corazon Aquino, Ferdinand Marcos, etc. It also have a special section for vehicles that was used by the former first lady Imelda Marcos, General Douglas MacArthur and Leon Apacible’s kalesa. After several minutes, our tour in the Presidential Car Museum finally ended. 

 Next, we went to art museum, that is located in Cubao. In the art museum, we can see 3D paintings and pictures. But before we went inside the museum, we had to wear a pair of sock-like clothing that can cover our whole shoes in order to protect the paintings. We wouldn’t want to get the floor dirty, for the paintings are huge that it expanded on the floor. Several hours later, we finished our tour in the museum so we went in their food court. There they sell different kinds of food such as fries, waffles and many more. Although I didn’t get to buy anything there because it was too expensive for me, I bet that their prize is worth it. Now, after few more minutes, we went on our way to our last destination. 

 Star City, that is located in Pasay City, Manila. In Star city, it have many crazy rides, such as Roller Coaster, Star Frisbee, Vikings, etc. It also have Booths, like Horror House, Peter pan booth, Amazing tunnels, etc. Some needed to pay to play in some activities like, lazer booth, snow world and many more. There are also arcade games that requires tokens, there you can win a stuff toys, big and small ones. We can also eat there, for there’s a food court and some stalls that sells hot dogs, french fries, etc. But be smart, for there is one ride that is located in the water, so you might get wet. Hence, bringing extra clothes is a better idea. 

After hours of enjoying, around 7:30 pm, we all went back to our school campus, which is New Era University Integrated School. Then, some of us went home by themselves, and some were being fetched by their parents.

The Fruity Barangay

“A place where pineapple is grown”. 

Barangay Pinyahan was originally part of Central District Diliman. It was divided into two separate entities which are Barangay Central and Pinyahan. Pinyahan was a popular place for cultivating pineapples since 1930s, thus the name of the Barangay. Some hospitals are located in this barangay including the Lung Center of the Philippines, National kidney and transplant Institute, Urology Center of the Philippines, and the Armed Forces of the Philippines Medical Center along V.luna avenue. Pinyahan Elementary School and Flora Ylagan Highschool are public schools that are located in the said barangay. The AFP Medical Service School is located within the Armed Forces of the Philippines Medical Center.

Every May 15, the barangay celebrates its fiesta.

Albert Einstein

We all know who Albert Einstein is. He was born on 14th March 1879 and a German mathematician and physicist. He developed some theories. While working at the patent office at Swiss, he produced a groundbreaking articles in 1905 alone. Quantum theory is one of the theories he developed, he became famous, for he won the Nobel prize for Physics for his explanation of the photoelectric effect in 1921. The second article contains the experimental proof of atoms’ existence. He continued working at the patent office til 1909 when he finally found a full-time academic post at the University of Zurich. In 1913, he arrived at the University of Berlin and became the director of the Keiser Wilhelm Institute for Physics. He then married his cousin, Elsa Lowenthal, after divorcing Mileva. After a decade, he immigrated to U.S for he was being targeted by the Nazis who took power before the World War II. By the time Elsa died in 1936, he involved himself to find unified field theory. He became isolated from his colleagues, who were focused on the quantum theory than in relativity.

On 18th April 1955, Einstein died of a disease called abdominal aortic aneurysm at the age of 76 at the University Medical Center at Princeton. He was taken to the hospital for a treatment but he refused surgery, believing he had lived long enough and was content to accept his fate. “I want to go when I want, it is tasteless to prolong life artificially. I have done my share, it is time to go. I will do it elegantly." he stated.

Journey to my Dreams

There was once an unforgettable journey of mine. It was when we were in Baguio, attending my cousin’s graduation. New experiences had begun. We went to a camp that was filled with soldiers and doctors. Some have their own vehicles, and some have only the bus to take them in Baguio and we were one of them. A lot of them took the other bus which was the first one to leave the area. We took the last one. And since we were the last one who left, father, mother and me, together with the driver and his assistant, were the only people in the bus. Seriously, I could run around like a kid chasing a ball, for it’s an empty vehicle. 

When we arrived, hotels are the first ideas that gone into our minds. So we look for some simple yet fascinating place to stay for three days. Several hours have passed, the search was over, because we found one. It’s not really a hotel, because the place was suggested by my relatives, my cousin’s parents. I found the place simple and uncluttered. But I can see the dust from a far. It was so old that the stones have settled, enough to give the whole facade a tired look. I look up to find a roof with gargoyles. It was perching like a line of birds. It’s bearable though. Smells like flowers everywhere, for it has its own garden. Father’s hobby. Watering the plants. 

Graduation day! My cousin’s wearing his prescribe uniform. A second lieutenant, that’s what he was. I was wondering if I could give it a try someday. Father have always wanted me to be a soldier, for he don’t have any son. I can feel the urge of being one of them. To surpass my father is my biggest challenge in life. 

After the graduation, we went back to Quezon City. From that moment, I have been dreaming of being a soldier someday. And I will not stop until I am one.

The Family Woman

Sweet. Friendly. Caring.

Those are the perfect words that best describes my favorite teacher. She might not be a perfect mentor for everyone, but she is to me. Mistakes are her company, for she is using it as her strength, making herself stronger and wiser. And for that reason, I admire her. Back then, I was afraid of her. Told myself I am nothing around her. Weakest became a personality. I used to tell myself that her subject isn’t that important, for she was always nowhere to be found. Thinking I’d rather cut class than attend her subject. I never knew her until one day, informations about her spread. My teacher is a writer. Didn’t expect that she’s one of the writers of our Newspapers. She never mention it. Perhaps, she didn’t want to brag about it. Reasons came out. 

I began to understand why she’s always late, even though she know that she’s our first subject teacher. Piece by piece, it’s almost solved. Thoughts of mine almost cleared. Jaw dropped after the reason revealed by her. Sorry was the first word that came out from her mouth. Baffled, was my reaction that particular time. Her reasons might sound ridiculous, I thought. But then again, she talked like a lawyer defending her client from being accused. The room was filled with soft, diffused light. Murmurs began to be heard. Her mother is the reason why she’s always late. Guilt started spreading in an excruciating way. 

After that day, I finally understand why. Seems like, everyone has their own reasons. Starting that day, I get excited whenever my favorite teacher arrives, late or early. Listening became my habit during her time. Stories that have been told by her, inspires me a lot. Makes me want to achieve more things in life, even though it will be harder and harder as the days will pass. Because just like her, I want to be more responsible than ever. 

She’s still my favorite teacher until now, because she never abandoned her students nor let us suffer. Cher Meden Fadriquela is my inspiration for she taught me things that makes me want to learn more about life and how to deal with it. Nothing can stop you from dreaming of who you want yourself to be in the future.

A Soldier by Heart

the lyrics of the song It’s Gonna Make Sense have always been in my mind for the past few years. I have been thinking what am I gonna be when I grew up. Puberty hits me, then all of it just, poof. Gone. Until one day, it all came back, like a mushroom that suddenly appears. And then, all I can think about is a fresh start. Numbers keep on adding in my age, yet I still think about how to start my so-called dreams. Always wondering how to deal with the barriers that is blocking my way, while managing a smile. Easy is not the right word to describe it. Although, it always fills my head with excitement. Choosing a career or job is not as easy as choosing a book to be read. Discombobulating if I may describe it. Leaving my thoughts confused, for it’s mind-boggling. 

Years have passed, but luck never visited my mind. Didn’t even bother to passed by. I’ve waited. I’ve been waiting for it to come, until one day, lady luck finally came. A thought of consulting a parents’ opinions crossed my mind, so I gave it a shot. Pick a career that suits your abilities. Mom’s words are comforting. Dad said the same thing but with power. Serving this country and helping others, that’s what my heart wanted ever since puberty knocked on my door. Choose a career that you know you’ll enjoy, not just because you need money. Dad’s words of wisdom knocked me out of the loop. After all, job and career are two very different things. Dad told me that fear exist only in my head. 

After how many years of searching for my lost decisions in life. It finally came to an end. I know now what I want to be. Like my father, I also want to serve our country. Hence, a soldier fits my description of a perfect career. Ever since I made that decision, I tend to be more observing especially when it comes to small things. Giving up does not exist in my vocabulary, for my father taught me an important thing. It’s that no matter how many times you messed up with your life, giving up is never an option, for failures are the ones who teach us to be a better person.
