ok, i dont know if this goes under descriptions or not, but, i have saturn and mercury both in the 5th house, (not sure if the signs matter, but taurus for saturn and aries for mercury). What do you think the challenges would include? I know it's feeling trapped by fear and rejection when it comes to creativity, but i feel as if there is a bit more to it then that. Also, what do you think someone would have to do to get past these challenges, and how you know that you have? sorry if it violates!
Saturn in the 5th House & Saturn in Taurus
This isn’t an easy placement, but no placement of Saturn is ever truly simple - Saturn is the challenger, after all. Saturn’s role and the 5th House’s role are, in many ways, in conflict. Saturn is the “taskmaster,” it is strict and restrained, while the 5th House is about free expression and romance (not just relational romance, but romantic views of the world as a whole). This creates a great deal of tension more often than not.
Children
In the 5th House, Saturn typically causes issues with children. This can manifest as physical struggles giving birth / becoming pregnant / lack of fertility, or other more symbolic, less literal, challenges such as suddenly finding yourself supporting a child or tasked with teaching or caring for a child. How this struggle manifests depends a lot on aspects.
In Taurus, Saturn typically affects material possessions more than anything else, so it would indicate the struggle with children may be more on the lines of monetary or material support than a literal lack of fertility or something else. On the other hand, it also grants patience with children.
Romance
Saturn in the 5th may indicate an older romantic partner. More importantly, it often marks a relationship which requires a great deal of devotion. Knowing Saturn, it will likely not be simple devotion, but heavy and difficult to manage. But, Saturn’s challenges always pay off if you are willing to put in the work.
Depending on aspects, this can manifest in a variety of different ways. Hard aspects (oppositions, squares) may mean that romantic opportunities may be few and far between in one’s life, self-consciousness will limit one’s opportunities, and a struggle to express romantic intentions.
Stress & Duty
Due to Saturn and the 5th’s conflicting natures, one’s ability to relax and express themselves will typically be pitted against each other. This manifests most often as guilt when one isn’t working in some way, so attempting artistic and romantic expression not only results in feelings of fear and rejection, but also in shame, oddly enough. This is one of the most brutal characteristics of Saturn’s influence.
Mercury in the 5th House & Aries
Mercury’s place in the 5th House is much less difficult, and comes primarily with positives, but there are a few challenges.
Children
Mercury in the 5th’s primary fault is intellectual conceit, and this often falls upon one’s children’s shoulders, if they have their own children or any children in their life. There is often stress placed on children in that one is so concerned with the child’s intellectual success. Obviously, it’s not a bad thing to want a child to succeed in any capacity, but this placement often means that the native’s ego hinges on the child succeeding.
Depending on the aspects, Aries may only make this worse by creating impatience.
Romance
This isn’t a terrible placement for romance, but it can influence one to be excessively critical of both romance as a concept and their romantic partners.
Growth
Getting past any negative influences in the natal chart starts with awareness and honesty. When looking at these placements and aspects, ask yourself if it applies to you or not. Sometimes it won’t! Each chart is unique, and thus some of these negative influences may either be assuaged or inflamed by other placements and aspects.
Also, what I’ve described is the absolute worst traits possible - there are good aspects to both of these placements, and it’s very rare for someone to solely exhibit every “bad” trait associated with their natal chart. These things are potentials which we can avoid, grow out of, and overcome - you may have avoided them or already grown out of them without even realizing.
But whether that negative trait is there or not, you must look inward and truly reflect on yourself and your actions to determine it, and once you’re aware of those parts of yourself you can do something about it.
Depending on your view of astrology, some of these things may appear to be completely out of your control, but knowledge of them gives you more control than many recognize.
With negative thoughts, try to catch yourself each time you may feel insecure, be stressing yourself out about taking time to yourself, or thinking negatively of romance. When you think negatively, correct the negative thought with a positive one. For example, if you think “I don’t have the right to take a break” (something Saturn often seems to sneak into our thoughts), correct it by thinking “I have the right to relax and take care of myself; taking time to myself isn’t something I should feel guilty for.” It can take a while, but you will eventually stop thinking in those patterns.
“No Matter How Hard I Try, I’ll Never Be Good Enough.”
Hi! I’m Saturn! I’m the source of your frustration. Wherever I’m placed in your chart makes you doubt yourself. I’m the reason you want to give up on your dreams. I make life unnecessarily hard for you because I like watching you struggle. I’m going to force you to work extremely hard in life in order to be good at normal people things that everyone else is naturally good at. Good luck lol
Saturn in the 1st: You suck at expressing yourself. People made fun of you and called you boring or a stick in the mud as a kid. You play it safe in terms of your wardrobe. If you have any body mods or colored hair, you had to forcefully push yourself out of your house to get these things done. You want your body to match the things that you’re into, but for some reason, this is really hard for you. You may be interested in some quirky styles, but you can’t bring yourself to actually wear those clothes. Your biggest fear is being misidentified (being at a rock concert when you’re into the music, but having others think you don’t look like you belong.) This will take you several decades to overcome.
Saturn in the 2nd: You probably grew up poor. Your basic needs (food, shelter, security) went unmet many times during your youth. Today, you struggle finding work or keeping a job. You struggle paying your bills. You struggle having consistency in your life. You struggle having a reliable source of income. Even if you have your living and financial situation under control, your past hardships have taken a toll on your mental health. You feel like you aren’t good enough to have your needs met. You tell yourself that you don’t NEED a bunch of things on a daily basis. Your biggest fear is not having enough. This will take you several decades to overcome.
Saturn in the 3rd: You suck at talking. You probably felt stupid as a kid because you stuttered or began speaking later than your peers. Today you struggle to speak your mind. You think of what to say after the conversation has already been said and done. Your brain and your mouth aren’t synced. You have amazing conversations in your head, but when you said them aloud you sound stupid or aren’t as coherent or articulate. Your biggest fear is sounding stupid. This will take you several decades to overcome.
Saturn in the 4th: You grew up being told ‘no’ all of the time. Your family stunted your growth. You watched as your peers matured from having sleepovers, to having crushes, to dating, and to having sex. You didn’t get to do any of that because your family made you stay home all of the time. They made you feel like the world was scary. You have a pessimistic view of the world outside of your front door. You’re afraid to put yourself out there. Going to the grocery store, ordering food, talking to strangers on the phone, and having a job give you anxiety. Your biggest fear is going outside of your comfort zone. This will take you several decades to overcome.
Saturn in the 5th: You are all work and no play. You grew up believing that responsibility is the most important thing in life. You hardly spent time with friends or dated in school because you had homework or other obligations you had to do first. Today, you struggle to indulge in leisure time. You get panic attacks when you watch Netflix because you remembered there was something important you need to do. You never let yourself chill because you think you always need to be doing something. Your biggest fear being so lost in play time, that you forget that one really big important thing you were supposed to do. This will take several decades to overcome.
Saturn in the 6th: You’re not very good at holding a job. Something happened as a child that made you feel like doing work restricted you. Today, you either struggle holding a job or have poor attendance. You’re also overly cautious about your health, believing that you caught the rarest disease all of the time. You think a simple cold is more serious than it ever actually is. Your biggest fear is being forced to give up your life to slave away at a job. This will take several decades to overcome.

You know what's wild about transits?
They change the way we look at certain stereotypes in astrology and establish generational traits, especially the long-term ones.
Let's take Pluto, for example:
Ever notice how Capricorn Risings seem particularly gloomy and serious, but almost like in a 'doom' kind of way? Consider Pluto has been going through their 1st house since 2008. I think this is where the "Capricorns are so dull and boring" stareotype comes from, too. Cap Risings are actually so funny!!! Don't forget they have Sag in the 12th house, they almost compulsively need to lighten the mood.
Depending on what House System you use, you could say the same thing about Sagittarius Risings, who are supposed to be more cheerful and jolly, right? But most Sag Risings i know (including myself) either have Pluto in their 12th or 1st house in their birth charts, and transiting Pluto has since moved through their 1st and/or 2nd house. That's gotta thwart self esteem and confidence a little, and it certainly makes for a heavier presence than you would expect.
And the terrible reputation of Gemini Venus and their deceitful ways. If they're in their teens or 20s, consider there's a big chance these people might also have Pluto opposite their Venus. This gives them a confrontational (and potentially transformational) quality that shows up mostly in their one-on-one relationships, creating a dinamic where they mirror the other person's shadow side. The same goes to any Gemini Venus during the Pluto in Sag years, they eventually experienced that opposition as a transit. Makes more sense now, huh?
Also, you know how we've gone from seeing Cancer placements as nurturing and caring to manipulative and controlling (i call us The Care Bears From Hell), to the point i've repeatedly seen people compare them to Scorpios? Pluto has been opposing all Cancer placements for years, leaving their darker side out in the open for everyone to see. They've all had that moment when they were totally exposed.
For anyone whose natal Neptune is in Capricorn: did you ever have that moment when your dreams just sort of died? I mean, although it is true that Neptune is at fall in this sign, this generation has faced an extremely hard crisis of faith that (i believe) eventually led us to pursue different beliefs than those we were raised into. There's a collective feeling of having been deceived. Maybe, among other things, it had something to do with that conjunction with Pluto we all had?
A more personal one: Pluto trined my Mercury in Taurus since the end of 2018, around the same time i developed a serious interest in astrology and officially became that person who reads people and is always up for deep conversations at any time of the day, but never up for small talk. My guess is anyone whose Mercury was also aspected by Pluto at some point also became a more critical thinker and discovered a deeper side of themselves and others during that transit, with trines and sextiles having a smoother experience than squares, oppositions and conjunctions. If you or someone you know has this placement, try to trace it back to when you had this transit. Has there been a sudden or gradual change in your personality since then?
And you know what the best part of this is? These transits were all were set in motion since before we existed. That means these collective changes in perception and generational experiences were always going to happen, one way or another. They were meant to be. Isn't that insane to think about?
Anyway, this is all just to say TRANSITS ARE SO FREAKING FUN.
