one of the many many things i’m obsessed with when it comes to dfqc and xlh’s relationship is that they’re very much not soulmates, at least not in the destined sense. they’re not destined to meet, but they do because of xlh deciding to save changheng, despite him being fated to die. and it’s because of that choice defying fate that she also crosses paths with dfqc.

from there, the story is a constant struggle between destiny and love. every external force and higher power says that xlh and dfqc cannot be together, from their respective sides to xuanwu, but still they choose each other, up until the very end, when dfqc parallels xlh’s initial choice by facing tai sui before she can - defying fate to save her.

they are not destined to love each other, and yet they do. and that is beautiful to me.

Real tbh because fantasy cdrama esp xianxia (even kdrama) has always been about fate or red string fate bs, but we got the opposite in clj and it's actually touched me more
