Life

Understanding life takes much more than increasing your bank accounts till you feel comfortable. Because the uncomfortable situation is you will never feel comfortable, and in doing this you may miss out on what does make you feel comfortable. Which for the sake of this argument, is for me love. A love that i recently lost, and my mind wants to hold onto the fact that I am still in love. And I want to let it hold on to that fact. I think if i lose that feeling of being in love I will be empty, and when was the last time you sore emptiness create something amazing.

Bullshit

It is undeniable that all humans have begun to become accustom to the concept of bullshit. This concept has begun to spin its way into to all aspects of life, be it the story we tell our mates at the pub or the design that some of the architects are preparing in this room. Why even attempt to produce something that will better the industry, when bettering the industry falls upon people like me, the building scientist. For those of you who don’t know what a building scientist is, we take all the hard shit in designing a building and tempt to make improvements. Improving the indoor environment quality, the environmental impact of the building, finding new words, which could mean something, but also could be just to fuck the architects off.

Again tho bullshit has found its way into my career path, conducting research in areas which really don’t matter. BUT, could produce a profit in the long run. Unfortunately the world revolves around not LOVE or any other shit two vegans in cafe made up, it revolves around money. And that is what I am writing about, somewhere along the timeline the journey shifted from producing meaning full work for money, too producing bullshit for money FUCKING BULLSHIT.

Another Tuesday

Everyone understands their part in the world when sustainability is considered, but people don’t care. This makes it extremely hard for someone studying the subject to care enough to attempt to impose change. We use treated timber because it kills everything that touches it (well CCA does), and the construction industry loves that quality, and I mean why fix something that isn’t broken.

But that isn’t were the problem is (disregarding the arsenic that could be introduced into your body), the problem is when demolition companies blindly dump this into a hole. Then “woohoo” its gone time to move on with the job. I read a paper from Christchurch that referred to landfills as “carbon storage”, which i suppose is a correct definition. But that does not defer from the situation that is the amount of arsenic that leaches from these landfills. Again i suppose Christchurch’s landfill “Kate valley” is lined with plastic to prevent the leaching of chemicals. But is every other landfill lined NO, don’t be obsessed.

That’s the problem, people - people suck. landfills suck, treated timber sucks, and most of all the industry sucks.

Beginning

This will be the beginning of something that i hope will improve my English/ grammar skills, whilst also helping me to place my ideas onto paper. The start of a thesis blog, this blog will hopefully open not only my eyes, but the eyes of anyone who dares to read it. That is if they can read it.

I am currently studying at Victoria University of Wellington. I am in my 5th year of study, conducting a thesis on the use of copper chromium arsenic timber. This timber was once a natural building material, but after the leaky homes issue, the industry went out of their way to introduce the most vial solution ever. This solution can be broken down into three chemicals;

Copper - Which inherently kills almost anything that dares to attack the material. Arsenic - Which kills what ever copper doesn’t. Chromium - which joins the other two chemicals and the lovely sustainable timber together.

Now i need everyone to understand that treated timber is important in to days construction industry. Major problems are caused from not using it, but does this gives us the right to infect the land hills water ways food and all manner of different things, with a chemical more commonly found in murder trials. Arsenic that is, which house wife would poison their loving husbands with.

Anyway that is it for today, a wee rant to get my thoughts on paper.
