you know what hurts the most about desmond's sacrifice? is that it meant nothing in the end. what every assassin worked and suffered for--altair, ezio, connor, clay and so on--was for nothing.
desmond went into that temple knowing he wasn't going to make it out alive. he took the risk of saving the world but freeing juno at the same time, with the hope that his family would be able to stop her, and maybe even stop the templars. and that's what hurts the most. that he had hope, just like his ancestors did. the hope that, in ezio's words, "maybe you will be the one to make all this suffering worth something in the end."
desmond had the potential to turn the tide on the templars. he was doing so well, i'd even say he was at the peak of his character development in 3. nolan north himself in 2015 said that they originally had bigger plans for desmond. 6 games, ultimate assassin, time travel. doesn't that sound cool? and so much better than what's happening in the modern plot now? It does to me.
assassin's creed had such a good plot and concept, and ubisoft threw it all away. it's sad to see a franchise i grew up with go downhill so fast, for no good reason.
