✯ “It depends on the medium’s power. The strongest mediums can subdue even the most violent spirits, but if one without proper training and power tried to channel a rebellious spirit, it could result in your body.”
✯ It was another reason Maya feared Dahlia so much. Even her mother, the previous Master of the Kurain Channeling Technique, had been unable to keep her under control, which forced Godot to kill her mid channeling to save Maya’s life. Maya was very reluctant at channeling Dahlia later, when Mia proposed that plan.
✯ “So, just calling you Apex and nothing more?” It was kinda… boring, from Maya’s POV. Friends were supposed to use nicknames and other terms to get close to each other. Sure, Apex didn’t really count as a friend yet, but that’s how you got intimate to people, wasn’t it? At least, that’s the feeling Maya had when she started calling Phoenix Nick.
✯ “For that same thing called ‘culinary tastes’ you talked about earlier! Some people like burgers with less cheese, other with more, some like bacon and others not, some want lettuce and tomato, some prefer chicken or fish to meat - and so on. With so many options, one can definitely get what they’d prefer the most. For me, in particular, a good burger must have lots of cheese, bacon and have the meat and bread just at the right point of crunchiness!”
[So, if you are a spirit medium extraordinaire, you must be the strongest of all mediums and able to tame even the most violent spirit, yes?] At least, that is what logic told Apex to reasonably assume about this Maya. Then again, perhaps it was like a circuit. Despite their massive capacity, at some point the energy overload was going to shut it down and everything would go haywire. Apex did not relish this metaphor, because it did not enjoy the thought of watching the human explode into sparks and flame.
[Perhaps in time you may call me the Aggressive Predator Exterminator, which is a very accurate descriptor of what I do. Then again, to have a nickname longer than one’s actual name defeats the purpose of such a moniker, and Apex is already only four letters.] Were nicknames not meant to make difficult names easier to deal with? It wasn’t as if Apex was a particularly difficult name to pronounce, anyways.
Looking at the many options, they did indeed seem to cater to all forms of tastes and diets. Vegetarian, fish-based, slathered in many different kinds of sauces and dressings, Apex was at a loss. How in the world did humans decide between any one of these bewildering options? Coming up to the counter and a very bored looking clerk, Apex knew what it would avail of. [I would like one bacon cheeseburger with crunchy meat and crunchy bread.] That was how a burger should be, right?
