Dear 2020 me

Hey, it’s 2016 Tyla here. I’m not sure if you’re still on Tumblr, but if not, oh well. If you are, you’ll probably see this which is good. Um, I hope you are doing well, I hope you’ve recovered completely from depression and social anxiety. I just thought I’d write a little message to you, kind of like a time capsule for myself.

Well, right now things don’t look so good. No one in my family accepts me, or is even trying to, apart from grandma. But even she is apprehensive. I’m still absolutely certain I want top surgery, and there seems to be more surgeons than the two I found, so where ever you live now, if you still want the surgery, you should look into that.

I still don’t know what job I want, or anything about my future. Suicide is still a viable option for me right now, so maybe you’ll never get to read this because of that. But if you do get to read this, that’s good. I wonder what job you’re doing? Are you serving food (like a waiter) as a general job but studying to become a game dev or something? That’s what I think I might do. I don’t know yet though. Everything’s a bit daunting to me.

Mum is still being a bitch, I’m guessing she hasn’t changed for you. I can’t wait to move out and away from here, to somewhere it snows, like victoria or something. Maybe I do save up and move completely to england or america. probably england. hmm. There’s probably more work opportunities there, and plus, assuming Dan and Phil still do tours and stuff, I can meet them. idk.

Some advice I’ve learnt that you might have forgotten: No matter what you do, in the end, you die, so make the most of it. For most people I guess that’d be depressing but for me, right now at least, It’s inspiring.

So um, I really hope you’re still openly genderfluid and telling all those people who said it was just teenage mood swings to go shove a cactus up their ass. You might be scared to go through with the top surgery, so Im gonna say just do it, you’ll feel so much better. Remember your dream? A lovely apartment somewhere it rains often. A beautiful girlfriend, wife even, living with you. Flat chest, without a binder. You’re hot :P and you’re finally happy with your hair. With everything. Remember that? Stick to it. Just a reminder that Vincent van Gogh did not eat yellow paint to make himself feel happy, he ate paint, and drank different chemicals because he was suicidal and this is why he was not allowed in his studio while having breakdowns. He also did not paint starry night and his other great works because he was depressed, he painted most of them while he was in recovery and demonstrated his hopefulness and love of the world through this. Most of his great works were painted from his room at a hospital. Van Gogh’s depression should not be glorified. His hope and effort toward a better life, as well as his recovery from depression should be glorified.
