there’s a gross amount of Mark Salling apologists on the internet today and it’s kind of disturbing. i’m not celebrating his suicide, but I’m certainly not mourning that vile piece of shit pedophile either.

I think the famous (but fake) Mark Twain quote sums it up for me: “I’ve never wished a man dead, but I have read some obituaries with great pleasure.”

Some things for us to remember

Mark Salling was a bad person. Full stop.

THAT SAID

1. That does NOT make it okay for us to speak negatively of people who commit or attempt suicide as a whole. There is a huge difference between a pedophile who chooses to end his life rather than live to pay for his crimes, and someone who has a mental illness and needs professional help just to remember that everything isn’t hopeless bullshit.

2. Also, because many people with mental health issues were/are drawn to the Glee fandom, we should not be talking about suicide as a positive thing. You shouldn’t be happy that the man is dead. You should be angry that he was willing to do what he did yet unwilling to take responsability for his actions.

3. There are people in this fandom who are grieving right now-not the loss of Mark Salling, the person, but the loss of the person they thought he was, the Mark Salling of the press pre-2016, the one they looked up to. They have been grieving this same loss since he was arrested and then convicted. These people are not apologists, they are fans who feel betrayed and deserve room to grieve.

4. The actual Mark Salling apoologists? Can go fuck off into the sun.
