Hey, the new chat censor is a bit much, I feel
In case you weren’t aware, this year sky revamped their chat monitoring system using a learning ai to help make it more effective I guess, this is how it works if you want more specific detail (screenshots taken from the support center found in game)
I feel there is a problem with this though
I completely agree with this last part about the sectioning of different chat forums and them being handled differently, as things like message boats and benches are public space and should be very closely censored and monitored because anyone can see them and as such they should be family friendly. And I feel they have the completely right idea that friend chat comes with the expectation that friends already have an understanding of each other and also you can just mute or block them at any time if you feel you are uncomfortable with the things they are saying and that is a personal responsibility of yours to decide
But I feel like with that expectation, friend chat should be more than just slightly less strict. The game is meant for all ages but a lot of players are adults/not young children and I feel like making friend to friend chat inheritly family friendly isn’t fair to older players who want to freely chat with their friends (like say curse words or talk about less child friendly subjects), I feel like this censoring this takes away from the social connection aspect of the game a lot
I do think that certain extreme language should be censored, namely slurs because after deep consideration I don’t think there’s a way that could be handled in a way that would ensure people’s safety
But overall I don’t think friend chat should be censored as much as they’re trying to censor it now.
Additionally, Vi also brought up the idea that there could be a censorship toggle option similar to how another game they play works (final fantasy xiv), where you can choose if you want adult language to be censored or not and I feel like that would be a very good compromise to ensure players can both be safe and comfortable but also free to express and connect with others fully
So yeah I think friendship chat should be less inherently strict and should instead possibly be a toggle option (to have it implemented at all) because I feel it negatively impacts the socializing of the game which is, of course, the entire main point of the game
I believe I stand by what I’ve said in this post because I’ve spent a lot of time contemplating it and talking to friends for second opinions BUT! I’d be very happy to hear if anyone has any more opinions on this :) It’s something I’ve been thinking very deeply about and if anyone feels there is anything I did not cover in this post please feel free to reblog or leave a comment speaking about it, just please be polite and respectful :)
