Whet is located on the outskirts of Granville Island, right off the bridge. Initially, I found the environment to be too loud due to the bar and pub area at the front of the restaurant next to the door. Our hostess brought us to the back couches with a magnificent view of the boats docked on the pier in false creek. From the delicious looking dishes above, I’m sure you can tell that the food quality is superb. They specialize in oysters and have up to twelve different types you can try at their oyster bar. The night I went, they only had four different types available so I ordered one of each! Among the four, the Kusshi and the Royal Miyagi oysters were my favourite. The Kusshi could be described with a sweeter taste and has a rich finish while the Royal Miyagi is milder in comparison and has a melon-like flavor. The Malpeque from PEI was extremely salty while the Pacific Rim Petite was just an average oyster and didn’t carry much flavor. Also on the recommended menu that night were fish and chips, a halibut in reduced butter sauce and the house special clam chowder. I also ordered a salmon strawberry salad and a pesto feta cheese shrimp flatbread. Although the salmon and halibut were slightly overdone and lacked the juicy inner core of grilled fish, I thought Whet’s clam chowder and oysters are definitely a must try!!!!
