To Curwen Cottage came a neat, simple parcel, a note and a delicate leaflet to wait inside—at those pages were pressed a procession of trifling, floral sprays, each natural composition unalike to that to follow.

“… the sun, moon, land, and seas.” Our elders wrote of near-divinities, and yet we take flagrant pride in bringing low one after the next?

It is a strange world we make our home, but I know you understand it better than most could.

She knew so much too.

I was wrong to surprise you as I did, but I do hope you like what I left at your letter-box, just as I pray for a chance to talk.
