so i hear we’re back in the freddie stroma era and i was wondering if another character you could possibly include is his character from pitch perfect 🫣 it’s ok if you don’t !! but i had this idea where it’s literally Grumpy x sunshine ( he’s grumpy , reader is sunshine) and one day he’s like i think i might be in love with you. after she completely losses her cool on Jesse bc he did something stupid
when skies are gray // luke (pitch perfect) x reader
a/n: i actually really like how this came out considering it’s my first time writing for Luke!
summary: Jesse being an idiot, or maybe a genius, just to get you and Luke alone.
warnings: not much just fluff!
Stoic was the only word that came to mind when you were first introduced to Luke.
Jesse had helped you get a job at the university’s radio station to keep up with some course fees. You didn’t think that majoring in film could be so costly, yet here you are.
It’s been a few months since you started working there, and ever since your first day you’ve seen countless people try and shoot their shot with Luke. You, Beca and Jesse ended up making a bet, seeing if he would fall for someone so quickly.
To you, Luke seemed like some guy who always just kept to himself. When you first met him he actually approached you like if he was excited to work with you. Jesse pointed out that his first meet with Luke was just stuff he had to do and then it was straight to work.
Jesse noticed over time he was a little more irked than usual when it was only you and Jesse for the day. He also picked up on a few comments that Luke attempted to get you with, you didn’t really catch on and thought he was being nice.
So, Jesse decided to be a little stupid and careless to prove something that’s been knocking at his brain for a while.
You and Jesse head in the station to start your shift, Beca being at practice this time. The two of you head to the back and see Luke in his booth, Jesse already putting his stuff down to work.
Going a little more towards the end of the shop to start on the records, you hear Luke ask Jesse if it’s just the two of you today, hearing a distant “Yeah, I guess so.”
Looking through the shelf, you see Luke sigh and pinch the bridge of his nose in frustration. “Alright, just make sure to not slack off or have a chat while doing absolutely nothing.”
You assume he was just having a bad day, he looked super annoyed that it was just the two of you but surely Beca let him know beforehand about not being in today right?
Walking over to Jesse, you pass by Luke walking back to his booth. He tries to avoid eye contact with you, his face, with what you thought had a tint of pink, turned slightly to the side.
“What’s his deal?” you ask Jesse, he puts down the CDs he was holding deciding that nows a great time to put his plan in motion.
“I’m not too sure. But something is extra weird with him today.” he replies with a groan so he can nonchalantly put his arm around your shoulder, something you didn’t think much about. You both turn towards the booth to see Luke immediately flit his eyes back to the screen.
“Hey you don’t have a thing for him, do ya?” his head now turns to you.
“That’s a pretty good joke for your comedy act.” you reply, obviously avoiding the question. You did actually but you knew there was no way that it would work out.
Slipping out of his arms to go back to your usual working spot, he picks up the CDs again and trails after you like some dog. Luke notices and watches the whole thing unravel.
“No but seriously, I need to know for research.” you hear him say from behind.
“Let’s say “no”.” You kinda see where this is going.
“So does this mean I have a chance?” he weirdly yelled out.
Laughter continues to come out from where you two are. Luke, overhears some parts of the conversation from the booth, he’s not too sure how to feel about it. “I’ll totally protect you from campus creeps” from Jesse and taunting replies from you have him so worked up from some reason.
“Hey, I’m closing early, I have stuff to do. I have to wait for a friend to come cover so you both can go.” Luke announces from the doorway of his booth.
“Sweet, I’m outta here then.” you hear Jesse say from beside you. Placing his arm around you again, Jesse places a quick kiss on the side of your head.
“See you later, sunshine” speed walking his way back to his belongings, Jesse feels like that’ll be the push for you both.
“Sunshine? Later? We never made plans!” you yell out. You start to reach for your stuff as well, feeling Luke approach you.
“Can’t hear you. So excited for tonight, bye!” he yells out again.
“Dumbass!” yelling out once more before throwing one of your books his way as he already out the door, leaving you and Luke together. The whole kiss thing left you confused and irritated. Why did he do that out of no where?
Sighing out of frustration, you finally turn your attention to Luke. “Don’t mind him. He’s never usually like that.”
Luke only lets out an uninterested groan, feeling a little annoyed with the whole interaction and walks back to his booth.
At the same time, he admired how fast you shut Jesse down, this feeling is new for him. Thrown off by what he just did, though, you follow him.
“You alright? It looks like something’s bothering you.” you ask. He doesn’t answer.
“Y’know you can at least talk to me after how much you avoided me today.” you complain.
Luke turns to you in disbelief. “Are you upset with me just because I didn’t give you any attention?”
“Ha, got you talking!” you chuckle out. He lets out a light laugh and looks down, not believing that he actually fell for that. Luke starts realizing that he likes how he is when you’re with him, but he’s not sure he’s good enough for someone like you.
“You sure you’re alright? You’ve seemed very stressed lately.” you ask him.
“I don’t know.” he sits down in his chair and notices you’re in the booth. He doesn’t mind when it’s you. You stare at him in confusion while appreciating his beauty, though trying to figure out what’s going on with him.
“It really does makes sense now.” You snap out of your thoughts and take in what he says. He extends his hand to you, his expression hard to read.
“What makes sense?” you step toward him, taking his hand.
“I don’t think I ever knew what love was until I met you. It was easy for me just to spit out a few words and have a partner right there and then.” he says, looking up at you from his seat.
You can tell he’s going about this carefully, it’s cute. But, you assume he never had a clear definition for love, maybe it was always one sided relationships with him until now.
“But you were difficult and it took time to get to know you, and what a great time it was. So when I figured out why Jesse was being an idiot, I sent him off. Guess he’s not entirely an idiot”
“I knew there was a big softie under that tough act of yours.” you tell him as you shove his shoulder lightly.
“Alright alright, if you’re gonna poke fun at me can you just move on and forget about this?” he says rubbing his head in embarrassment.
“Hey no, I’m not poking fun I promise. I really like you too.” You reach for his face when he backs up a bit. Realizing your gesture, he gives in and is instantly grateful that he did.
“Let me choose a song. Can I?” you ask, hoping he says yes.
“Uh sure, I guess. What do you want-?” You sit on his lap and start searching for a song that fits the mood.
The feeling felt very intrusive to him for the first minute or so, but when you chose the song he was getting used to it.
“It sounds good.” He says, the song being played to him for the first time, it was low and smooth. He’s surprised you have good taste.
“Yeah, it’s one of my favorites.” you turn to him smiling. He doesn’t say it much, but it was one of the most beautiful things he’s ever seen.
Luke then hesitantly leans close to you, grabbing your sweater gently to pull you in closer and pressing his lips to yours as he hears you giggle into the kiss.
