Part 2 of the book of the law AI generator thing
Been inactive for a while, enjoy this little project, used an online image generator to create paintings from the verses of the book of the law, i tried to make it one painting per verse but there was a word limit so i did have to break up some of the verses. If this ends up just vomiting into the void then so be it.
Each one had 4 incarnations in it's generation , may post them as well
what are angels in your opinion as a magician? the catechism of the catholic church says they are spirits who serve god. Sam block from the Digital Ambler says - in more up-to-date language - that angels are basically divine robots/drones in charge or doing God's work and are completely devoid of emotions and personality. do you agree with those interpretations or nah?
I think angels are definitely very alien and different than other entities, which a lot of magicians can attest to. They definitely demand a lot of holy scrubbing before they’ll talk to you and really don’t like when you put other gods’ stuff near theirs, so of course empirically it holds up that they’re devoted to abrahamic god. I think ‘angels are robotic/only vaguely sentient’ is a sentiment a lot of magicians have solely from their own independent experience. It’s a pretty universal sentiment. They’re definitely really weird and unique.
I would say robotic isn't exactly right, I would say more like, subroutines of the universe, they can do what they are programmed to do and can work within those parameters
Have you ever worked through the Ars Notoria? I can't find all of the notae that the workings require and I was wondering if you knew where to find them, if you worked through the book.
Hey there.
No I haven’t actually which is slightly bad of me as one should really work all the books of the Lemegeton before going for the Ars Goetia, but silly 17 year old me jumped straight into the demonology side.
I do have the notes! There in my Peterson copy of the Lemegeton.
If you ask nicely the wonderfully insightful @vlm242ov23 has been compiling the notes and may be willing to shed some extra light, as the illustrations are somewhat garbled.
Hope I helped, thanks for your question 😊
Come to me, I can answer stuff too
So I finally read Waite’s Book of Black Magic and, in total honesty, I have no idea what I’m supposed to do with the information presented. Like is all ceremonial magic… like that?
What you’re supposed to do with it is do what the text says, it’s an instruction book. That being said, a lot of Waite’s commentary is horseshit and BoBM is mostly excerpts of various grimoires than a collection of complete grimoires so if one caught your fancy you’d be much better served by picking up the grimoire itself.
But yeah all grimoire tradition is “like that”, whatever that means. Lodge magick like Thelema and the Golden Dawn are significantly different but if your beef is that it’s too complicated, you sure as shit aren’t gonna like them either.
I was more so confused by the overly academic language, and the fact that a lot of the ritual implements seem very hard to come by. But thanks for being a dick ♥
Then yes it’s all like that and Waite’s probably one of the easiest reads. You’re definitely not gonna learn tumblr-style enchanting from any grimoires My pleasure ♥
“what do I need to read to find out more about enchanting? I saw a comic about that once” I would write that as a shitpost of what would happen if a tumblr witch read an actual grimoire lmao “WHERE’S THE MOON PHASES AND CRYSTALS D:”
“Ugh this is boring, it’s like, a real book, I wanna just read about fake stuff from tumblr comics instead”
I have since read the books of Moses and the lesser/greater keys and the magical papyri. They are fascinating and I absolutely want to learn more, but I read so much dense literature for university that the idea of taking up a hobby that requires more is, admittedly, off-putting.
I didn’t mean to come of as unwilling to work, but the immediate “oh you must be a dumb neowiccan that doesn’t want to work” did strike a nerve. That being said, you are much more educated in this than me, so I’ll try to take your response to heart. I’m well aware that ceremonial magic is completely different to conventional tumblr witchcraft.
you know what, I appreciate the awareness and I’m sorry for immediately jumping to mockery. We should encourage people to read and learn when they’re willing to. That being said, a lot of these books are much more accessible than people give them credit for simply because they’re usually just lists of instructions written somewhat archaically. Jumping to these types of texts requires a shift in thinking, but after adjusting it’s much easier to sift through.
I haven't really done much in voicing my opinions on this kind of stuff but, I will say that we, as esoteric occultists, aren't made in a day, we take time to develop, it takes years, years to develop a strong practice and you will not have all the tools overnight. Many you will have to make, as many are not able to be bought this will take time as all things do in this field. All you have to do is put in the time to study the time to make the stuff and the time to practice. Most grimoires aren't for beginners anyhow even if you can use them as a guidebook for that system lot of people do not start there.
The daily regime
The daily regime, when adhered to, can act like a training session for you in the magickal mindset. Everyone should design one for themselves, even if you don't do it all evey day. While most of these have similar layout, this is just a layout, and can have many variations.
Overview of my personal daily regime.
1. Solar adoration
This is not something everyone does, or even needs to do. This is a form of prayer to the sun, done at certain stations of the sun as it passes through the sky. The most common forms either have two (sunrise and sunset) or four (sunrise, noon, sunset, and midnight) times a day. These usually have special stances and forms you assume with the words. Examples of this would be the resh of the Thelemite, or the solar adorations of the aurum Solis. Some even do both (or all 4) at sunrise, this is to condense them as to not interupt the mundane.
2. Meditation
The focusing of the mind into the singularity, then into nothing, this emphasized by most schools of thought as a daily practice, the forms vary from silent to mantric, focusing on one thing to emptying the mind, seated/ kneeling to posed in a stance. Most schools have their own form and if you belong to that school you should do that form.
3. Daily divination
This is something that I do in the minutes before the next day starts, with the question, "how will tomorrow be?" Or "how will (date) be?". I personally use multiple systems at once with the same question, as this, in my opinion, offers the Magus many different points of view to consider. This is usually just a simple one glyph (or card, rune, etc.) draw.
4. Ritual bath
This can be done with your normal bathing routine, suggested after you've washed of the mundane dirt and grime. I usually make up some holy water before I take my shower and take it in with me, after I have cleaned myself well I turn the cold water on in the shower saying whatever blessings I feel come to me, then after I turn the water off I pour the holy water over my head and body.
5. Banishing/Invoking
This is also something suggested by several schools as their daily practice, the banishing ritual can either be the basic lbrp, or even the personal ritual. This is usually done before bed or when the Magus has retired for the evening. The invoking form can be done either after the banishing as a way to bless the space or in the morning as an energizing ritual once you have woken.
Once again you do not have to do all this every day, as if you force yourself to do this, it can make it feel like work and will make you burn out on it and make you not want to do this at all.
A comprehensive guide to scrying : part 2 by VLM242
Step 2: The set-up
Now that we have discussed the most common mediums for the art we must step into the world of the practice.
1. Find a room where you can be alone and undisturbed for at least half an hour, this room should not have a cross breeze or radical changes in temperature, the ideal room is 'room temperature' where you cannot feel much of any variations in climate. The lighting in this room should only come from candles or if you can't have them a diffused warn colored electric light will suffice. Try and avoid using overhead room lights as they are generally too bright and of the wrong color to be properly used. This light source should be, if candles, placed on either side of the scrying medium, not too far back or too far forward, just barely in front of the medium. Also make sure the flames or your face are not reflected in the medium.
2. Your attire should not be restricting, it should be comfortable and enough to keep you a stable temperature, it should almost feel like it's not there if possible, I can recommend having a hood if you have trouble focusing on the medium, in this case do not draw it fully forward as to obscure vision, only enough to act as a blinder for the edges of your sight.
3. The hight the scrying medium should be placed at depends on your position during the working, whether it be standing, seated, kneeling, or sitting on the floor, the medium should be at a height that you can easily see the whole surface, you should not be straining or even moving your head to see into the medium. The medium should be a minimum of 1 ft and a maximum of 3 ft distance away from you.
Step 3 : Training
Now that you know what the requirements for what you are getting into it's time to start the training. What I am going to present is a method of training your mind and body to do the work.
1. Aquire an 8x8 chess board, this will be your training scrying medium, you should place it as if you were to scry with it, same set up and all.
2. With your gaze set to the centre of the board stare at it, and keep staring. You should see the black and white squares slowly fading into gray.
3. Keep this up until the fading into gray becomes quicker and quicker. The time should be around 5-15 minutes at it's quickest depending on the person.
4. At this point you may switch over to the actual scrying medium.
Step 4 : The practice
Now that you have basic training in scrying it's time to put the training to use.
1. Take the scrying medium of choice and setup as described before. A short period of silent meditation is suggested to help quiet the mind and help centre yourself in the act.
2. The medium, as the gaze takes effect, will start to turn white (or the 'flashing colour (depending on the color of the medium) from the edges inward, then from the centre out back into black (once again this depends on the colour of the medium)
3. The scrying session has begun, take note of anything that appears in the medium, noises in the room, any thoughts that come into your mind, etc.
4. The session may be ended any way you like, I personally suggest a 'cool down' period of just closing your eyes and letting the images fade, your eyes may water depending on how long you keep them open for. A good closing besides just closing your eyes could be to extinguish the flames, close your eyes and meditate for a period of time that feels right, minimum should be around 5 minutes as you will feel drained after putting your mind through this experience.
A comprehensive guide to scrying : part 1 by VLM242
So you want to scry? Heard it's hard or even impossible for some? Well, like any skill it can be developed and trained for, sure there are those who have the innate ability to do it, but that's true of any field. This guide will hopefully help you to the path of the mirror.
Step 0: the gaze
The start of this path is simple, learn to unfocus your vision slightly, you know how you feel when you are spacing out and just stare into space, looking but not really focusing? That's the state you should try and achieve first off as a preliminary step. You should be able to see everything in your field of vision clearly, but not focusing on anything in particular.
Step 1 : the scrying medium
Yes, we are already have gotten to the all important tool! The medium used to scry is different and differs from scryer to scryer. Each have their benefits and flaws, the basic methods usually are either a black mirror or a crystal ball (yes, the stereotype is true). We will now go through the most common forms of scrying and their pros and cons.
Black mirror: very common and easily made. A simple mirror can be made by taking a picture frame and putting a piece of black paper behind it or spray paint the inside of the glass black (a few coats to get it nice and dark), a very easy way to get a hold of one is to literally just use (if you have one) a smart phone screen. A few variations of this mirror include the painted black wood disc, the velvet mirror, and ink bowl, and the polished obsidian disc of Dee. Some that this kind of medium should not be used to contact 'angelic' entities. The black mirror can be a different color than black, also mirrors can be inscribed with various symbols to use as a focus for what you are scrying.
Crystal ball: the stereotype of the seer, this medium does not have to be perfectly clear as is shown in TV and movies, they do not have to be huge one foot diameter things either. Dee in his Enochian experience used a small crystal ball that was a inch to two in diameter and it wasn't even perfectly clear. These work best in a neutral color and translucent. A glass orb of a similar construction works just as well too. These can be expensive and hard to store.
The bowl of liquid: a bowl of oil was common in ancient Egypt as a medium, today a bowl or cup of water can be used to a similar effect. You can add ink to the water to make a quick black mirror. The con of these is that they don't provide a clear picture and have to stay flat.
The fire: these can range from a candle to a bonfire, this is one of the most difficult mediums to use but is one of the most effective, can be unpredictable and can have a mind of their own.
The magic mirror: an actual mirror used to scry in, can be a store bought mirror, a fancy variation is made of electrum magicum. The only con of this mirror is that it is hard not to focus on as it is a mirror and hard to lose your reflection in.
These tools can come in many variations and sizes, you don't want to have it too big to be unwieldy or too small not to see in.
THEE HAND OV FATE NUMBER 3-ASTRAL EVOCATION 08/01/18-19:46
THOF 07/01/18
07/04-07/11/18
For this months THOF I have rolled a 4
Conjuration 4 sorcerous invocation-The aim of the fourth conjuration is to create radical changes in behaviour by temporarily altering the environment. There is no limit to the variation of experience the magician may wish to arrange for himself. He might, for example, after some careful background research, depart in disguise to some strange place and play out a completely new social role. Alternatively, he may wish to equip his temple and himself in such a way that he experiences being an ancient Egyptian god for a time. In Sorcery Evocation the magician tests to the limit his ability to create arbitrary change by modifying his environment and his behaviour. For this exercise I decided to fast, it was a seven day water only during sunlight and food after sunset style fast
Day 1: really hungry, drinking allot of water to compensate, I decided during this period of fasting that I would commit to a more intense daily practice, morning meditation, invoking, and yoga, and nightly meditations and banishing, along with starting a ritual bathing procedure during normal showering time.
Day 2: this day I was not as hungry add the previous day but still quite hungry, my water consumption had begun to slow down even though I was trying to drink more water I didn't seem to want it, still with the more intense practice nothing skipped
Day 3: even less hungry than before, the not eating is becoming easier and water consumption to releave the hunger is slowing still, I did forget to do my daily divination and morning meditation this day and yoga as well Day 4: I was fired from my job this day, the hunger is subsiding still along with water consumption, I forget to do my morning and nightly meditation, along with divination this day
Day 5: morning ritual and meditating with yoga is back, I nearly eat a cracker when offered. Nightly divination is forgotten
Day 6: I now find it easy to not eat, water consumption is below normal and my daily routine is still good, I do forget to do daily divination again along with yoga
Day 7: it is the last day, I do eat a nut on accident when preparing dinner with my roommate, but this is the only slip up, my regular water consumption has slown down to almost nothing, I feel tired, more than usual and I get up later than I need to this day, I forget to do daily divination and yoga again as well
Afterwards: I have come slowly back to eating normal amounts, I did notice it easier to meditate during the fast, I was calmer and me focused, but I did find that I was slightly more tired than usual
Oooh 14 - ritual invocation
6/6/2018 23:34
I prepared for this by meditating on the Ouranous sigil several times today and having a cold ritual shower
I preformed the Lbrp and the brh then I did a invoking hexagram for Ouranous, preformed the modified headless rite then the invocation for Ouranous, a great clear headedness came over me and my eyes started to water.I felt the energy ask for some things.Mostly stuff that could be it's correspondence. It felt like it was asking for sage or some other clearing scent, maybe lemongrass, the color it was was a kind of shifting void, that was to bright to look at exactly. It felt more like it was something big that we are to close to to see it fully.Like how you can't see the whole planet you live on from the ground.I asked it to show me what it's form is and it did something strange to do so.I think I was in that tower, or nearby, it pulled me across the plain, past M, past P, and out, it felt like a primeval hive mind looking with one mind but no true eyes.It had a feeling like it is a source, where we pull minds out of.When we name and describe something it is here where it bubbles out from. Just the mind, it feels like legion. The form comes from elsewhere. My mind is beginning to burn, I have yet to banish it. The tower,I don't know what it was, it felt like the tower but it looked like I was leaving a black hole, you know how they describe the light distortion as you enter one? It was that in reverse.
Oooh 14 - ritual invocation
CHAEQAI Wed, 23 of May,2018 22:50-23:37
This CHAEQAI I decided to use the DSIC method of scrying to try and see the attributions of ¶ I used my absolutely janky set up for this, since this is my second time using this system I once again decided to just follow the instructions, it still feels like I'm missing several elements to this ritual, I still don't like the abreviated version of the headless rite, and since I'm not using the actual angels I will need to rewrite the invokatory words so that they can be moreso adapted for any system of spirits. The results of this ritual were heavily inconclusive as I couldn't still my mind well enough to properly attempt this.
Chrysalis I week I Exercise 3 13/5/18 11:26-12:11
I decided to make this a walking exercise to expand my range of sensation. I left the house feeling the gentle weight and softness of my clothing, the gentle restriction of my belt and socks. The wind was blowing in and off, helping to dissuade the growing heat and humidity of the day. I could feel every twig and crack in the pavement on the walk,I could feel the grass bristle on my feet as I step though it to cross the street. The heat reflects off the asphalt and cars nearby. The crossing button feels cool to the touch and shudders slightly in recognition of being activated, it says "wait" . The shade of the trees is welcome and helps with the heat, which has begun to make me sweat slightly. I feel the bushes brush against me, they immediately make me start to itch. Another itch rises in my back, I ignore them. The heat has once again returned as the shade of the trees is gone now and I am on a main road. Make my way up to the hardware store and the interior greets me with a, a welcome change, I linger inside a bit too cool off as I get the items I have came for. The duct tape is much heavier than the weed whacker twine, I purchase both and make my way back home. The heat has increased as has the humidity. I have begun to sweat perfusely, my body feels heavy and numb. I feel every Pebble and crack under my feet, I feel my feet sweating in my shoes, I feel the gentle breeze rising ever so often. The shade of the trees has retuned but it brings no solace to the heat. Thee thirst grows in my throat, the dryness builds and I feel more in my body than before, my skin itches and I feel everything, my clothing rubbing against my skin, the shoes around my feet, the hair on my head, my fingers touching eachother, my legs brushing together, the shudders ricocheting up my spine as I take another step.I am home, and full of relief. -VLM242OV23
Chrysalis week 1 exercise 2 13:23-13:46
I decided to use this exercise in tandem with the yard work I need to do to see if I could pick out any specific plants, I started in the back yard which at this point is very over grown, but I think I'm going to leave it mostly that way as there are some interesting plants that may be useful for future operations, first thing I smelled was dog poop, we have two dogs so this is unsurprising, next smell I tune in on is honeysuckle, I look for the source and we have a huge bush in the corner that I have never noticed before. I go over to see if it is ready to eat but unfortunately it is still quite young and it's growth cycle. The next smell I Tune In on is garlic, apparently we have some wild garlic growing in this yard I spotted for its long stocks that are appearing through the slightly bushy grass around. I make a note of it as I didn't know we had some growing in the back yard as well, the rest of the smells are a mixture of the city around us and the neighbors plants, mostly Carnation and some rose a few yards down. I just had to sit there and take it all in the smell of the exhaust the smell of burgers cooking across the few blocks the smell of someone smoking the smells... At this point I have shut off most of my other senses just tuning in on the sense of smell it is becoming slightly overwhelming so I decide to change Locale to the front yard and do that work. Since most of this work has already been done, all I have to do is purge the few baby trees that have started to grow in the front flower bed as we have snapdragon, purple mums and an unidentified black flower. To the side of the house where I have planted some holy basil and lemon balm for future uses I prune back the trees that have started to grow there as well as I would like to have as much of these plants grow as possible. Here I smell mint? I have not planted any mint, I locate it near the flower bed and make note of it, it's spearmint. My favorite mint, this mixed with the smell of the honey suckle making a divine scent. I check on the potatoes I planted and they all look nice and healthy with strong leaves, as I turn to go back inside I smell lemon, is coming from a small fuzzy plant that I do not recognize. As I go back inside I smelled vomit from up the street, the hazards of living downtown I guess. I didn't smell much of anything that brought me back, then again the sewers weren't backing up today.
