Fairy tail

I’ve known about Fairy Tail for a long time, but I never really liked shounen/fighting anime so I just blew it off until about October and November of last year. I started watching it and loved it. Fairy Tail had me hooked from beginning to end. I hope for this next season to be amazing (as it probably will),

I’ve watched plenty of top quality animes, and Fairy Tail will always rank in the top ten of my favorites. Fairy Tail is a long running anime that never leaves you disappointed. The story takes place in the region of Fiore. In this area people use magic for everything. The story revolves around the people in the guild, Fairy Tail. Primarily it focuses on Lucy Heartifilia, Natsu Dragneel, Gray Fullbuster, and Erza Scarlet. Later, other characters are introduced or become more important, but I’m focusing on the original four. The protagonist is Natsu, when he was a child he was taken in and raised by a dragon, Igneel, and taught how to use Fire Dragon Slayer magic. This allows him to manifest flames from his body and beat you to death if you piss him off or hurt his friends. He can be silly at times and quite fierce when upset. He’s not the protagonist that cries and runs off when times get tough. He fights and never gives up, even if that means he could die. Lucy is the leading female protagonist. She plays a bit under the stereotypical damsel in distress role, but she can defend herself against weaker (or stupider) opponents. She is typically a product of fanservice, usually against her will. She has the ability to summon Celestial Beings to fight for her because she has made a contract with them. At the start of the show she is not very strong at all, but she becomes stronger over the course of time. (Example: Before she could not call out more than one Celestial Being at a time, nor switch between them. Eventually she can switch between several and she can have two out at the same time.) Gray Fullbuster is an Ice Make wizard; so basically he can create weapons out of ice and fight with them. He has a lot of back story that ties in with the main plot and one of my favorite characters. He has a fierce rivalry with Natsu, and a bad habit of stripping all of his clothes off unconsciously. Erza is described as the most powerful female in Fairy Tail (the guild that is), and has a very stern personality. She had a past of being enslaved, and having to labor for, worshippers of Zeref, an ancient wizard capable of the most powerful types of evil. She usually puts Natsu and Gray in their place when they fight. The music is very fitting and powerful. I recommend looking up a few of the songs. You won’t be disappointed. The animation was very good even before they smooth it out for the continuation. As I can see from the preview it looks better than most movie animations. Fanservice is very obvious in this show, and there is practically cleavage in every episode. Some people say it is excessive, even to the point of annoying, but I say that it is just a part of the show and I have no complaints. There is a balanced amount of comedy and comedic foils in the show so you’re not over-tensed by the plotline. Character development is amazing for some characters and a little lacking for others. Overall, I says you will get your fair share of feels, laughs, cries, and fanservice. I absolutely recommend watching this. Dragon Ball

Goku, a strange tailed boy, has been living alone in the woods since his grandpa passed away. Through a chance encounter he meets a teenage girl named Bulma, who is searching the world for mysterious items called Dragon Balls. It is said when all seven balls are collected, you can have any wish granted. Eager to go out and see the world, Goku decides to join Bulma in her quest. However they are not the only ones going after the mysterious relics, and their competition will do anything to stop them. It’s a race against time to find all seven Dragon Balls and keep them out of the wrong hands.

Although DRAGON BALL never got a big reputation like its sequel series Dragon Ball Z, it is a fun little tale of Goku’s many adventures as he grows into an adult. Since the secondary focus of the show is on martial arts, there are plenty of episodes where characters will fight hand to hand and include some fantasy elements such as energy blasts or flying in the air. However unlike Dragon Ball Z (which takes this kind of fighting to the extreme), Dragon Ball focuses more on choreography and a bit of the spiritual side of the martial arts discipline.

The plot of the story itself is focused around Goku’s growth as a person after facing new challenges and making new friends. Simple enough for a younger child to follow, Dragon Ball also throws in a good plot twist every now and again. The emphasis on humor also gives the show a more lighthearted atmosphere though, depending on the villain, the show has its fair share of serious moments. The sexual humor can get a bit over the top at times and the shift between comedy and drama can get a bit jarring for people who are not expecting it.

Kimetsu No Yaiba

Without giving away anything I’ll just say the first episode shows great promise. No real cliches yet and the characters have a little depth, plenty of room for development. I’m really looking forward to the direction they take this and it’ll hopefully keep my subscription going through the weak spring lineup we’ve been presented with.

The animation feels well blended with some CG elements, and overall feels smooth. The artwork, while not overly complex, is also solid and has a good feel. The details are in the right places. While the premise isn’t really new, they still manage to make it quite interesting. The only reason I haven’t 5-starred this right away, is because they talk down to the audience with excessive monologues. Yes, I saw what happened, I don’t need the characters to explain what I just saw by talking out loud. Still, this anime is very good so far. And it’s quite possible it’ll earn that 5th star in the coming episodes. I look forward to more.

This is a Dark Fantasy // Adventure based on a Shonen title by Koyoharu Gotōge. As is Shonen tradition, this series feature the coming of age of a driven protagonist who is eager to master his craft. It starts off dark but finds a good a good balance once all key characters are introduced. The anime style is smooth and easy on the eyes, action sequences are stylized with the iconic ukiyo-e influence and the music is solid. While veteran anime consumers might notice the inconsistencies and its pacing issues every now and then, this is still the best new comer of 2019 spring line up

One Piece

One Piece can simply be defined as: constant adventure. It has a truly amazing cast of characters that you will come to love as you learn about their stories and watch them grow. One Piece is a fantastic adventure with epic fight scenes, imaginative characters, wild landscapes, and unforgettable music. You will laugh, cry, feel anger, sadness, and joy as you make your way through the Straw Hats’ …

One Piece is simply the greatest anime of all time. When I first read Crunchyroll was adding it to their streaming library, I thought it was a joke, too good to be true. Then, after making sure that no one was pulling some sort of cruel prank on me I jumped for joy. One Piece combines every aspect of an amazing anime into it one ultimate experience for anyone who enjoys the medium. Every character is perfect, well developed, and gets their moment in the spotlight at least once, no matter how minor. One Piece can do anything it wants to, seamlessly transitioning from a comedy into a tear jerker in the space of one episode. I could go on for hours about the level of absolute perfection this show has achieved, but I’ll keep myself contained and end at this: WATCH IT. YOU WILL HAVE NO REGRETS.

BOKU NO HERO

It is Here! This is the future of the Shonen genre. The bringer of the next generation. The creator of Naruto even promoted the series and said it was the real deal. It takes a profound and unique spin on the genre and has solid characters, an intriguing story and a fantastic soundtrack. Studio Bones is doing an excellent job with the adaptation as well. As a manga reader I’m very much looking forward to the future of this series. Some shows are solid but dull; some shows are enjoyable but unsubstantial. This series is solid enough but manages to be one of the most energetic, enjoyable viewing experiences I’ve ever had. I would not consider it the best anime ever made, but I might consider it the most flat-out enjoyable I’ve seen yet. The story is solid, the character designs quirky (obligatory pun) and memorable, the music phenomenal (courtesy of Yuki Hayashi), but there’s just a special soul to this one that elevates it above its peers. I was skeptical at first as it seemed like a somewhat cliche setup. In true shonen fashion, it spent a little while training up and then proceeded to completely obliterate my expectations. It took what I thought would be a tired story and breathed an overwhelming passion and life into it. It’s filled to the brim with energy and heart, giving feels and frissons continually. It exemplifies the best of shonen: its messages of tenacity, crazy characters, thrilling battles, and sense of progression. It also avoids many of the problems typically associated with the genre, with (typically) better pacing and consistently spectacular animation. Studio Bones taking seasonal breaks between arcs to give them the time they deserve really gives this show an edge on its other cousins. Oh, and studies show that watching series where characters you identify overcome and win is actually healthy for your brain. Turns out, that thrilling feeling you get when your favorite character does something awesome or pushes through is your brain releasing certain chemicals to match them. And I’ve never seen a show that so consistently make me wanna stand up and cheer. This might be the most motivational thing you’ll ever watch. NOW, GO BEYOND! PLUS ULTRA!

This blog is run by someone only known as “Bobduh.” His blog has a funny name but you have to admit it helps increase their following and level of engagement. The blog offers reviews of anime as well as long-form criticism of popular Japanese anime and lots of critiques and opinions. The blog focuses on Japanese cartoons as well as the art of Japanese anime. He takes a bit of a sardonic approach to many of his posts and critiques so he might be considered one of anime’s most legitimate critics, the kind that anime artists tend to fear. But he seems to try to be honest in his approach which wins him a large following. He reviews series and comedies that have made it big and some that he thinks need a resurgence. So he might even influence the future of Japanese anime in that way.
