Benâs agreement to participate in the party game was mainly borne from a drunken sort of dissociation, which he guessed stemmed from another kind of whole-ass dissociation that had been prickling at his periphery for the past couple months. So his initial reaction to getting paired with Maddy was something akin to disbeliefâonly akin because it also felt a lot like divine intervention. Or maybe not divine intervention but⊠God laughing at him? That was it. It felt like God was laughing at him and Ben had no choice but to laugh alongside, even if it felt raw and jagged on its way out of him. He made the shaka sign in response to her exclamation, steadfast in his avoidance of making eye contact with anyone else, and followed her into the bathroom.
The sudden appearance of himself in the adjacent mirror caught him off guard and he leaned back against the door to quickly duck out of his own view. There was an odd liminalityâhe was pretty sure that was the wordâabout the space, though that couldâve been the edges of his vision blurring that triggered that or the antsy feeling that seven whole minutes came long with. It took him a moment to realize Maddy had said something and he blinked slowly as he processed both her words and her face in front of him. Pushing back off the door, he rapped his knuckles against the counter top. âUh,â he started dumbly. âDouble digits, definitely. Triple digitsâmaybe. Whatâs that stuff they use on crime shows to, like, test that kind of shit? Thereâs probably cocaine on every surface in here.â
Ben glanced toward the other side of the room, wondering if anyoneâs snorted cocaine off a hotel toilet seat and immediately coming to the conclusion that, yeah, they definitely have. He made a face at the thought and looked back at Maddy. He got distracted by the word that adorned her neck and he let out a short snort of a laugh. âSick necklace,â he noted. âIs that some kinda promise orââ He trailed off then leaned on his hand on the counter, a little unsteady on his feet and honestly pretty annoyed about it. âThat wasâIâm kidding. Donât⊠Dude, donât tell your friends I said that.â
âblue light?â   noticeable uncertainty, bending at the knees to become eye level with the surface in question.  âpurp-  black. i think itâs a blacklight?  i saw it on one of ryland adamâs youtube videos.â  the inessential inclusion showed evidence that the alcohol previously consumed was beginning to do most of the talking for her. standing at her full height, no longer paying the majority of her focus on the sink that may or may not have paraphernalia on it, she fishes for the straw on her four loko to take a sip. being suggestive and coquettish for maddy is, usually, easier whenever a joint or baggy filled with drugs is the endgame, but she feels the weight of liquid courage quite heavily when she drinks.Â
for a split second she forgot what her necklace said, habitually looking down at her neck to read it. a grin struggled to stay on her features when her lips parted, gasping flippantly at how direct his question pertaining to her necklace was. Â maddy's mouth pushes upside down, still clearly entertained even when he seems to retract his last statement. Â "i won't." she says immediately, an assurance she meant in the moment but only god-knows if she'd be able to keep that to herself when recapping the night to one of her friends. Â her amused smile doesn't wear off, in fact, naturally being the epitome of what BARE MINIMUM TWITTER must be, she found it strangely flattering. perhaps more so thanks to the effect of the alcohol. Â âit can be.â she answers finally, proudly and more genuine this time, leaning her full weight on to the counter. "do you want it to be?"
