Go Ahead, Hop on the Bandwagon
I don't see anything wrong with all these #prayforparis #prayforlebanon#prayforjapan posts. Sure, there are millions of other issues that need attention, and if you did care to bring them up in your hate post, thank you for letting people know about it. But you see, people wouldn't care if they didn't know.
Today, I learned the Paris attack first on social media (then I back it up with research), I am thankful to whoever, as you chose to quote it, 'bandwagonned' and spread this information. A few hours later, people are already tired of seeing the same post, the same hashtag. But let be, there may still be some who haven't heard of it that may make use of this information. Stop the hate, there's nothing wrong with showing concern, if you think they're being hypocritical, there must be someone actually benefiting from that hipocrisy that you accuse them of.
You think there are more pressing issues? Probably they know about it, probably they just didnt post it today, probably they're doing more about it than you do. Just because they posted #prayforparis doesn't mean they don't care about anything else.
So yes, there are tons of other relevant issues around the world, even in our local community. So if you feel that there is a need to shed light on the matter, do us a favor and share it, but don't mock those who chose to empathize today. I think it's generally a good thing to do.
