How to Use the Windows Japanese IME
This is under the pretense that the Japanese Language IME is already installed.
This tutorial is for Windows 10.
Press the ‘ENG’ button in your taskbar
Select ‘Japanese Microsoft IME’
Press the ‘A’ in the taskabr and it should turn into an ‘あ’
You should now be able to type hiragana
When you type ‘ro’ on your keyboard it will show ‘ろ’ etc.
When you type a word in hiragana, press space to convert to its respective kanji.
Press ‘Enter’ to keep the hiragana how it is.
Exapmple:
Type ’くるま’ and press the Enter key and it will show ’くるま’ and you can type the next word
Type ‘くるま’ and press the Space bar and it will show ‘車’ and you can type the next word
If you don’t get the word you want when converting to kanji you should scroll down the little menu that appears when you type to find the word you want.
You can also add a word to your personal dictionary.
To do this, right click the ‘あ’ and press ‘Add Word’
Do this if you often find yourself having difficulty finding a word you want to use or are a part of a certain niche.
To force type in katakana, right click the ‘あ’ and press ‘Full-width Katakana’ or ‘Half-with Katakana’
If a word is supposed to be in katakana, when you press space it should convert to katakana.
Hold shift to type with English characters
You can also right click the ‘あ’ and press ‘Full-width Alphanumeric’
Press the Slash key (the one that has a question mark as well) to type an interpunct ( ・ ).
【 If you use the Slash key that placed above the number pad then the Slash key will just type a Slash ( / )】
If you use the number pad to type numbers they will appear like this 『123』.
If you use the number bad that is above your letter keys they will appear like this 『123』.
-『123』 ・ 『123』-
Pressing the Alt key will change the ‘A’ to ‘あ’ and vice versa.
Pressing ‘[’ or ‘]’ will type ‘「’ or ’」’.
Pressing ‘-’ will type ‘ー’.
Typing ‘~’ will instead type ‘~'.
Pressing the Backslash button will give you ‘¥'.
