Healthy Skin from The Inside Out - All Winter Long!
Fall has arrived, and the winter months are just around the corner.  It’s the perfect time to start thinking about how to prepare your skin for the dry winter months! Once winter hits, everyone will inevitably start dousing their skin with more and more lotion and other moisture-quenching products.
While the types of products you use on your skin, such as body scrubs, exfoliating back scrubbers, and lotions, can make a huge difference in the look and feel of your skin, what’s almost more important is what you are eating. What you take in regularly can make a huge difference in the way your skin looks. By eating the right foods – and getting a start now before the cold sets in – you may be able to drastically reduce the number of products you need to lather on your skin. Not only will your skin thank you, but your pocket book will too!
Here’s the skinny on achieving a healthy glow from the inside out:Â
1.      The #1 think you can do to keep your body hydrated is to drink LOTS of water! I know, I know, water can be boring. But if you’re serious about having healthy skin, then try adding a low-calorie sweetener to it or replacing at least 2-4 of your normal alternative beverages a day with a full, 8 oz glass of water.
2.      Avocados are often considered a superfood, and are a great source of vitamins C, E, and monounsaturated fats, which help your skin lock in moisture. Remember, the fat from avocados is GOOD fat, but you can have too much of a good thing. You really don’t need very much to get the benefits.
3.      Salmon, rainbow trout and a few other select fish contain omega-3 fats, which will help protect against sun damage, cancer, inflammation, and will strengthen you skin cells. Some fish even contain selenium which will help maintain the elasticity in your skin so that it is supple, smooth and tight.
4.      Extra Virgin Olive Oil can provide you with double the benefit. It is packed with vitamin E and good fats, and it moisturizes the skin both from the inside (eaten) and out (topical application).Â
5.      Nuts and seeds are the ultimate super food because they help hydrate your skin and regenerate cells all while protecting against pollutants and free radicals. This means your skin barrier is stronger and can better protect itself against the effects of the environment such as cold, dry weather.
6.      Fruit, especially water-dense tropical fruit, act as powerful antioxidants that replenishes nutrients in the skin, promote collagen production, and help keep your skin supple and firm.
7.      Eggs, which are high in protein, helps cells to regenerate. They also contain sulfur and lutein, which promotes skin hydration and elasticity.
