I finally get to see Taylor
For the 1989 tour I had just become homeless, moved into a crisis youth refuge, and had not a single cent to my name.
For Red my family was living in one room in a backpackers hostel, never knowing if weād have enough money to pay for the next 7 days.
For Speak Now my mum had just been diagnosed with a brain tumor and I didnāt even bother asking because I didnāt want her to have to say no.
Fearless we weāre still struggling to get back on our feet after my dad left and my mum lost her job. Luxuries werenāt even an option.
But now. Oh my god now. Now I live in an apartment that has four walls and hot water and working electricity and a bedroom. Now I have a job and a car and a sense of pride. Now Iām not struggling to pay bills, not living week to week, actually have money to buy things I want (what???) Now I finally get to see Taylor.
Growing up I thought that god or the universe or whatever supernatural being had just decided that I didnāt deserve to be happy. At first I was angry, then it made me sad, and eventually I just felt hopeless. I had absolutely no faith that I would ever have a life worth living. I felt like it would just be crisis after crisis with no light at the end.
This is so much more than just a concert.
It represents how much Iāve overcome, how strong I am, how ready I am for whatever the future holds.
So now Iām glad that I didnāt get to see Fearless or Speak Now or Red or 1989. Because I get to see Reputation, and that means the world to me.
So this is my message to past me and future me and whoever else needs to hear it. Yes, itās played out and over used and beyond cliched, but oh my god it gets better.
