INTRO POST
A visitor, a visitor in my depths! Yes, yes! Come join me in this endless sea!
*After a while, the weavers reach the entrance to Weavenest Absolom. Engraved on the door is a sigil resembling the outline of an isosceles triangle without the bottom.*
“This is my Weavenest. Are you familiar with it?” *they turn to the door* “I do not come here often now, so I’m sorry for any… pests we may run into.”
-@weavers-of-rebellion
The mind might have visited before, not sure about now though! And no pests can hurt us, we're void!
(They enter the weavenest cheerily and looked around, seeing everything clearly due to its many, many years in the dark abyss.)
@deus-in-machina
Atla looked around. She remembered having visited it once. She remembered hating every second of it.
There was a... quality, to this Abyssal place that she didn't like.
As she followed her two sisters siblings, she began to conceive of a rune that would allow her to be seen and heard by Absolom.
Would certainly use the 'Detection' symbol, but what, precisely, would it have to be detecting?
Perhaps just Essence?
Well... She had an eternity to think on it.
@weavers-of-rebellion
*the Weavenest is dark, very dark. Shells are piled in the corners. Strands of void hang from the ceiling. The Weavenest seems more like a graveyard than a nest, but Absolom is comfortable, confidently leading the way.*
“I still haven’t finished cleaning up from the black-threading.” *Absolom gestures to a husk against the wall.*
“How long have you been… uh… void?”
Us? We've been void for so long, we can't even remember when we were voided!
(They giggle at the last part, voice shrill and haunting)
It has been a long while, yes, the mind can hardly remember their life before us. They sure miss it though! Every time they talk it's about wanting us to leave.
@deus-in-machina
"I suppose that makes sense," Atla offered. "You're pleasant enough company from where I'm standing. Er. Floating. But I imagine that spending an eternity in your mind would make me want to leave, too. No offense intended."
@weavers-of-rebellion
”Oh…”
“I’m guessing you don’t know how you got like this either? Well that’s annoying…”
*as they walk, the feelings of the halls around them begin to shift. The corpses and shells have been replaced by silken spools and nests. It is still covered in darkness, however, and it seems to have been abandoned for many ages.*
Ooh, silk! The mind says silk was important. I don't remember why though. Hm. Silk silk silk silk. It's a nice word.
(They pause, thinking to itseld.)
Ooh, Atla, do you know why silk might've been important to us? Maybe it'll help our mind remember.
@deus-in-machina
Atla considered it.
"Silk is an art exclusive to Weavers," The ghostly former rebellion leader said. "It also is made of Soul. Void is attracted to Soul, from what I recall from the times I did pay attention to Absolom's ramblings. Perhaps that has to do with it? It is also used to spin runes, though runes need not be written with Silk, if that also brings to mind why Silk might have been important to you."
@void-voices-sing
Oooh, yes! Maybe!
(They hum an unfamiliar tune, happily gliding through the halls quickly.)
Absolom, are we there yet? Where are we going?

[For Absolom]
(In the distance, a dark figure approaches. It has a large head and spikes, almost weaver-like, though it's difficult to tell from afar. It seems to be speaking to someone excitedly, and you can make out a few words.)
Look! It's them, ----! We ----- them!
@void-voices-sing and @deus-in-machina
*Absolom tenses upon hearing the voice, readying their needle*
”Who are you, and why are you here?” *They shout at the figure, steadily growing closer*
*They can’t help but be intrigued by its dark silhouette; a creature of void, maybe?*
(As it approaches closer, you can tell that the figure is definitely made of void, and seems ti be in the shape of a weaver.)
Oh yes! Hello, hello! We are- uh- what name did Atla give us again?
We are Opatha, yes! Opatha! My friend Atla is here too! Atla, you can see Absolom, right? I see them!
@deus-in-machina
Atla felt a strange kind of satisfaction, mixed with a strange kind of distaste, at being called Opatha's 'friend,' but decided not to protest the label.
"Yes, Opatha, I can see Absolom just fine. They look exactly as I remember them. However, I am unsure they can see me. I don't believe most bugs can see Essence. I certainly couldn't, when I was alive."
She paused. "Did I mention I'm dead? I don't believe I did. Sometimes I forget until I look down and can see the ground through my dress."
Nonetheless, Atla waved, doubting the other Weaver could see or hear her, but... perhaps they could.
@weavers-of-rebellion
”Atla?!?” *Absolom is shocked at first, but regains their composure and shakes their head* “No, Atla is… gone.”
“Your name is Opatha? I haven’t heard of you.”
*Absolom lowers their weapon*
(Opatha nods cheerily. )
That's the name Atla gave me we met! Down in the void, with the others! It's a very nice one.
(They seems to think deeply before whispering to the air next to them.)
Atla, why did we find Absolom again? I forgot while we were coming here.
@deus-in-machina
Atla had started to notice the unfortunate memory issues of her companion. She approached them with her best approximation of patience.
"We found Absolom because we wished to ask them if they could provide any assistance in freeing the mind from you," Atla explained. "Whether that be in already knowing how to un-corrupt something corrupted by Void, or by being willing to help us figure it out."
@weavers-of-rebellion
"Void?" *Absolom perks up, their wariness gone* "You've been in the void?"
" ...I guess I shouldn't be that surprised." *Absolom mutters*
"Are you a being of void? You resemble a sister, but don't seem to be one."
Hmmm... We're kind of like a being of void, but not! We're a bunch of void in the shell of a weaver. We and atla trying to figure out how to un-void us so we can figure out who the mind was.
Oh! The mind is us before we got voided, but it doesn't talk much.
(They pause their rambling for a second, before jumping up.)
Right! We came here to ask if you knew how to unvoid someone?
@deus-in-machina
@weavers-of-rebellion
"...so your conscience is void? But you still have the... weaver you? Why would the void wish to remove itself?"
"It depends on the means in which you were taken by the void, but I may be able to... 'unvoid' you."
Well, the mind asked us to leave, has been for awhile, so we are! Having a body was nice, but we're tired, and the mind wants it back.
(Opatha listens to the next part excitedly, before turning and talking to the air next to it again.)
Yes! Atla did you hear? They can take us out from the mind's body!
@deus-in-machina
Atla listened to both Absolom and Opatha's words. She found the Void's willingness to leave the Weaver's body... interesting. 'Tiredness' cited as a reason was especially strange.
It made her reconsider everything that she thought she knew about the Void.
"Yes, I did hear, though they didn't quite say that. They said that they may be able to remove you from this body."
Atla found herself wishing Absolom could see her. Perhaps she could try spinning a rune to fix that...
@weavers-of-rebellion
“Interesting…” *Absolom mutters*
“Would you like to go to my Weavenest now? I’ll need some materials to… er… experiment…”
*they fidget with their dress, knowing the most likely path of action. Nevertheless, they try to convince themselves there are other ways.*
Okay!
(They start to walk towards where they had come from, to the abyss, cheerily humming the whole way down.)

@deus-in-machina
Atla had escaped her imprisonment.
Atla had escaped death itself.
Where should she go first?
She supposed it depended on which Weavers might still be alive.
Absolom seemed like a reasonable candidate.
And so she went to the Abyss.
She went down, down, down, phasing through the ground with her ethereal body, and she did not find Absolom.
... She did, however, find... another bug... Another Weaver. Unmistakably a Weaver. But one who had been changed, changed utterly, in a way that caused a terrible beauty to be born.
"Who, precisely, are you?" Her ethereal voice spoke.
She wasn't sure the... corrupted Weaver could hear her, or see her. It seemed not all bugs could. But she hoped so. She hoped so. This was a sister who needed saving.
@deus-in-machina
(Upon hearing the voice of someone familiar yet a stranger, it turned quickly. Its eyes seemed hollow and ghostly.)
Oh, hello, hello! Us? Hm, I don't think we remember who we are, do we?
(They paused for a second, as if debating it with themself.)
Well, bugs thst visit the void's edge call us the Void's Voice, so that might be our name, probably! Who we are is a mystery though, a big mystery!
(They pause again, staring intensely at Atla.)
You seem familiar, very familiar.... What was your name?
"Ah, so you can see me, Sister. That is excellent," Atla said, her voice taking on its normal cool, authoritative quality. Well, as much as it could when it sounded like an echo.
"My name was, is, Atla. I should seem familiar, considering I was head of the revolution. It is entirely possible you were sent down here on my orders, though considering your state, I might regret giving those orders."
Atla paused for a long moment.
"Mm. Say, would the name... 'Absolom' mean anything to you?"
She did not think this Weaver was Absolom. The shoulder spikes were the wrong shape, and Absolom was far too careful with the Void for this to have ever happened to them, but... Atla thought she should ask regardless.
Perhaps she should give this Weaver a proper name... she will consider the prospect.
Oooh, Absolom! Another familiar, familiar name, but not ours, definitely not!
(They shake their head for their last part. They definitely knew the name wasn't their minds.)
You said you were Atla, Atla is familiar too! So many familiar things to our mind, how exciting!
(They look towards Atla again, swaying side to side as they listen for more information.)
Atla sighed. If this wasn't Absolom, then she did not know who this Weaver was.
"Would you like me to gift you with a proper name? Something more... name-like than 'Void's Voice'? Or does that name satisfy you?" Atla inquired.
Any name is good for us, we don't know what to call ourselves anyways!
(They pause, before starting to talk again.)
We wonder what the mind's name was, do you think it was a good name? We think it was a good name, but we forgot it.
Atla listened, tilting her head at the Void-touched Weaver.
"What is this 'mind' you speak of?" She inquired.
However, she did think about a possible good name.
"Would you be amenable to the name 'Opatha'? It is not a proper Weaver name, but it is a name. It came from a culture outside our land, one I studied briefly while trying to find ways to overcome the Grand Mother. Opatha is the name of a legendary Wyrm who, according to them, was destined to swallow all light and plunge the world in eternal night unless they are kept asleep. I dismissed the tales as mere stories, so I doubt this Opatha would mind you using their name."
Oooh, Opatha sounds new, and nice! Nice and new.
(They pause to think about the name, before nodding.)
Yes, Opatha! And you asked about the mind, yes? That's what we call whoever we were before we were us! The mind is very quiet, we barely hear it! It won't say much either.
(It thinks for a second, before explaining again.)
The mind is us, but not! A part of us maybe, but only very little! Us is most of us. The mind is a sorta echo in our head! Yes, a little echo.
This new revelation was perhaps the most disturbing thing that, er, that Opatha had told Atla.
This implied that part of what Opatha was was... some new mind, created by the Void. Or perhaps that IS the Void.
How... uncomfortable.
"Er. I am glad you find the name Opatha satisfactory. To answer the question you had asked, yes, I do believe this 'mind' you speak of had a good name, as most Weaver names are."
(Opatha looks pleased, knowing the mind's old name was good. They think for a second, debating what to say next.)
Do you know how the mind joined us? We forgot, it was a long long time ago. Maybe the mind could get out the same way it got in! It asks to get out alot but we dont know how.
Atla considered the problem.
"I am not entirely certain how the mind joined you, no, but I do vaguely recall some of what Absolom told me of their research. I do remember them mentioning the Void's capacity to corrupt. Perhaps it was through that ability that the mind was able to join you. Perhaps you can use that ability to assist the mind with leaving."
Hmmm, if we corrupted them, then maybe we could try uncorrupting them!
..Oh, but we don't know how to do that.
(It thinks for a few seconds, before perking up.)
If Absolom researched on how void corrupted, do you think they would know how to uncorrupt?
This was a fantastic question, actually.
"It is possible they would know how to do such a thing, yes. Or, if not know it already, be capable of helping you find a way to perform such a feat. And I have no doubt Absolom would have a vested interest in doing so..."
Atla frowned.
"They always were obsessed with this darkness, fascinated by it. I did sponsor their research and foster their interest, in the hopes that it would finally bear fruit in a way to slay Silk. I suppose it did, in a way. The collateral damage simply would have been too much for even I to accept."
Let's go find them then!
(They rise out of the void, struggling a bit before the body disconnects from the sea, but eventually making it out. They didn't do this too often, and preferred not to, as it required much energy, but they were so excited that they decided it was worth it.)
Atla had escaped her imprisonment.
Atla had escaped death itself.

She wasn't sure the... corrupted Weaver could hear her, or see her. It seemed not all bugs could. But she hoped so. She hoped so. This was a sister who needed saving.

Atla had escaped her imprisonment.
Atla had escaped death itself.
Where should she go first?
She supposed it depended on which Weavers might still be alive.
Absolom seemed like a reasonable candidate.
And so she went to the Abyss.
She went down, down, down, phasing through the ground with her ethereal body, and she did not find Absolom.
... She did, however, find... another bug... Another Weaver. Unmistakably a Weaver. But one who had been changed, changed utterly, in a way that caused a terrible beauty to be born.
