Finished the Book: Morning Star by Pierce Brown (Red Rising Book Three)
Oh hey there. Itâs been a whileâŠwell, merry Christmas to you all. If any of you were waiting for me to finish Morning Star, Iâm so sorry. So was I! At the end of the summer I just sort or abruptly lost all of my motivation to finishâŠeverything. All at once. That happens to me sometimes.
But with the year ending, I decided to pick one thing I hadnât finished and put it to rest. Finishing Morning Star was it, so here we go:
Knowing that this was originally planned as a trilogy, I was so, so desperate for this book to end without completely ruining my ability to trust, but I wouldnât let myself get my hopes up. So color me (ha) shocked and relieved.
Goblin had me in the first half, Iâm not gonna lie.
After Sevro and Victraâs marriage, I was fully prepared for one or both of them to perish. That would have followed the pattern, and admittedly I didnât like or trust Cassius (I still donâtâŠ) one whit, so that sort of betrayal just had me sighing. Again. But Pierce writes so well, and he did a fantastic job of making me feel like there was something amiss in the way Darrow and Mustang were both acting. There wasnât enoughâŠemotion. It was subtle! Mad props.
Sad about the moon :( My girl Luna didnât deserve that! I have way too many feelings about the bitter end of that particular confrontation.
Coming full circle with the Jackal and the Hanging Execution was a nice touch, very good, seven stars. I hope they chopped his body up into a bajillion tiny pieces and then burned them and then shot them into all directions of open space. I do NOT want that little menace coming back to life!
A WHOLE CHILD. JUST. A WHOLE CHILD?? AND HIS NAME IS PAX!!!??? PIERCE. YOU MADMAN YOU FIEND. HOW VERY DARE YOU.
GIVE ME A MUSTANG POV OF THE FIRST THREE BOOKS RIGHT NOW. Please and thank you.
AdmittedlyâŠI did wonder if Mustang was pregnant like. Seventy times. Not even just in this book. She gave off some serious maternal vibes that kept! Confusing! Me! But bless. I am not crazy. And Iâm so thankful to Pierce for not making it likeâŠa desperate mid-battle revelation or something. No shock-value ransom plots! (Yet?) Mustang and Darrow and all their family deserved a soft epilogue on Earth. I deserved that soft epilogue on Earth, darn it, after what this book put me through. After what theyâve all put me through!
But I am aware this is not the end. And in spite of my deep, deep fearsâŠI will eventually continue to read this series. Curiosity will get the better of me, or Iâll get a little older and wiser and calmer and be willing to risk my heart again.
My rating for this series continues to be high. Itâs definitely the first thing Iâve read in years that has been capable of forcing me to feel the full range of human emotions. Even though I struggled to finish it, it lingered in my mind. The delicately interwoven narrative threads and social commentary and also just, psychology? Impeccable. No notes. Iâm sure the consecutive books will be no less impressive.
