It was 90s, it was Ivy League it’s the pieces you steal from your mothers closet (because she was the cool businesswoman in the 90s)
Imagine this. It’s 1995. You wake up at 6:30 am, and immediately pull out a steamed midi skirt, ironed shirt, and blazer straight from the dry cleaners, right out of your 10 foot closet in New York City.
Now it’s 9:00. You walk into your corporate office, and there they are, sitting behind chunky computers and software, your coworkers in-yuck…..grey wrinkled skirt suits and slacks.
A Miu Miu customer, especially in 2020, is that woman. Yes, she works a 9 to 5 and her company has a dress code, but she goes with it! For her loafers and embellished shift dresses are just the right amount of “I watch the met gala livestream every year” and “A promotion? Me?”
The show, held at the Palais d’Iena in Paris, was reminiscent of one of those cubical offices, with “it does the job” office chairs.
It’s crazy to think just a couple of months ago, Gen-Z would never think of bringing back low-waisted bottoms. With the resurgence of “Y2K” styles, low-waisted skirts are the latest trend. Miuccia Prada used this trend while maintaining the girly Miu Miu aesthetic and surprisingly modest silhouettes (Maxi and Midi skirts)
Once again, Miu Miu, crop-tops, nothing new. But now this, this was new. Extremely short sweaters, button-up shirts, and even jackets were common in this collection. (When I say cropped to the max, I mean CROPPED)
When thinking of Miu Miu, the first thought that comes to my mind is why the brand was created. Miuccia Prada wanted to create a label that like her nickname was girly, cute, and reminiscent of her childhood and girlhood in general. On the runway, we saw embellished maxi, midi, and minor dresses, jackets, and even skirt suits.
Sticking with the corporate theme of this collection, the dresses showed featured a silhouette that is work-appropriate, modest, and surprisingly cute. Adornment with Miu Miu staple embellishments, these shift dresses could be found in your mothers, aunts, or even grandmothers closet and in the next few seasons.
Though loafers have not been rarer on the runaways, in the past 2 to 3 months loafers have found themselves thrown into the mainstream fashion trends. Most popular, or most known should I say, are the black leather loafers from Prada, Miu Miu’s sister brand. The Miu Miu was smart enough to stick with what cells, they added a classic, modest, and old-timely look to the latest trend.
