Sleeves rolled up and bucket in your hands, you walk down the long corridor of the shrine, the sun beating down on you. Your skin heats up quickly, yet it doesn't bother you. No, it can't bother you. You have your daily duty to complete, a little bit of heat cannot stop you now.
Your sandals click against the ground, echoing down the halls and around the courtyard. Every day, it was your job to collect water from the well to help water the plants within the shrine. From afar, it looked like a simple task. The difficult part of it all was carrying the bucket full of water back into the shrine. You sigh as you already feel your arm muscles begin to cramp up. You haven't even made it to the well yet!
As you walk away from the main part of the shrine, a grunting sound captures your attention.
That's new, you think curiously. You look at the path in front of you, the same path you've walked for who knows how long, everyday. Then you look towards the direction of the grunting, curiosity settling in you. Well, a little detour wouldn't hurt anyone, right?
You take a quick look around your surroundings to make sure no one was watching you before breaking your routine and following this new sound. As you grow closer, the grunting slowly becomes louder and clearer. Just as you near the corner, you just slightly peak your head over to see what's making all this noise.
Your eyes slightly widen at the figure a bit away from you.
Kazuma.
He was Bishamonten's newest shinki, just joining the family not too long ago. You haven't really spoken to him much seeing as you both have very different roles within the shrine. Your master had taken a liking to him too, having him by her side despite some of the other shinkis disapproving looks.
You remember when you used to be by Bishamonten's side. You quickly shake your head, pushing aside an unknown feeling growing in you. You didn't want to think about those times.
As you focus back on Kazuma, you realize he must be practicing something. The longer you look, you see he's actually trying to form a border! You chuckle a little as he's barely able to form one against a rabbit. The sound seems to snap Kazuma out of his concentrated state, swinging around to see you watching him. You can see his face begin to turn red, probably embarrassed at being caught doing something he isn't skilled at yet. He gives you an awkward bow which causes you to smile.
Cute.
You put the bucket you were holding down and made your way to the boy, clapping and cheering for him as he grows even more embarrassed.
"You're doing quite excellent Kazuma! You'll get your borderline down in no time!" His eye widen and he instantly grows flustered at your praise.
"Ah no! I can barely form one, even against a rabbit..." He chuckles awkwardly, wiping his forehead from the sweat as he looks down at the animal that was busy eating the grass.
"Don't be so harsh on yourself Kazuma. Not many of the shinkis willingly practice forming strong borders. You're putting in more effort than a lot of them would." You smile wistfully at the rabbit, watching it walk to a less patchier spot on the ground to continue eating.
He hums in response, his eyes slowly making his way to your figure. He can't remember if he's seen you around the shrine before. After all, there's so many of them, it's a little difficult to keep track of everyone.
His eyes trace over your features, over the slope of your nose, the curve of your cheeks, the shape of your eyes. Not many shinki have willingly spoken to him, so he decides that he will remember the one that did speak to him. When you meet his eyes, his eyes grew wide with realization.
"Oh, please don't take any offense to this, but may I ask what your name is?" Kazuma internally cringes at his words. He should have asked you this to begin with! He knows you don't mind, though, as you smile at him with kind eyes.
"My name is Y/N, it's a pleasure to finally meet you Kazuma." You bow down slightly and he follows suit. You can see he feels more at ease as his shoulders fall into a more relaxed position.
"So, how have you been adjusting to the shrine? I'm sure you might find everything a little, uh, chaotic." You laugh out, slightly bumping his shoulders teasingly.
"Chaotic is a slight understatement." Kazuma mumbles out before straightening up.
"Bishamonten has been extremely welcoming to me. She's very patient with me as well, so I'm grateful for that." He smiles at the thought.
You nod in agreement. Despite being fierce on the battlefield, your master was a very kind god. She had taken many shinki under her wing, creating a large family that she truly did adore and care for.
"As for everyone else, it has been a little more difficult adjusting to things, considering my vessel form is highly disliked amongst some of them." You look at him with sympathy as you understand his struggles. Any unusual vessel form was often looked down by many of the older shinki. But you could see in his face that this only made him more determined to prove them wrong.
"They'll warm up to you eventually. Some are just a little jealous you get to be close to the master with how recently she claimed you. Bishamonten used to use me often back then too, so I understand where you're coming from." You hoped what you said comforted him at least a little. You saw him look back at you with surprise.
"She used to use you? Did you fight along side her?" Kazuma looked at you with the same curiosity you felt earlier. Before you could wallow in your slip up, someone had called your name from behind you both.
"Y/N! What do you think you're doing?! Come here at once and fill this bucket with water right now! The plants will surely die under your care," yelled out the head of the shinki. You sighed and turned around ready to walk back to fulfill your daily duty. But before you left, you chose to tease Kazuma one last time.
"Well, keep on practicing Kazuma. Maybe you'll be able to form a barrier just like mine soon!" And with that, he watched as you swiped your index and middle fingers together in a line, a large borderline instantly forming in front of him.
He stumbled backwards from the sheer force of it, watching in awe and shock as your barrier caused the rabbit to scurry off into the distance in fright. He could hear you giggling off into the distance, catching one last glimpse of you getting hit by the head shinki's towel and running off to who knows where. She looked back at the green eyed boy in distaste before walking away and leaving him by himself once again.
He looked back to the barrier in front of him, walking forwards and pressing his hands against the wall. The border lasted a few minutes before disappearing, just like you had.
It was then that Kazuma swore he would become just as strong as you. Maybe learn more from you if you caught walking around the shrine. He hoped he would see you again soon, his face slightly heating up as he remembered the sound of your laugh.
I maybe be a little late but I noticed when the first pjo season came out, a lot of my pjo stuff started getting a lot of attention
SPECIFICALLY my story with Luke😳 like I remember posting it and it getting around 170-200 likes. I considered it a flop compared to the other stuff I had written that got more attention
But when the show came out, I noticed just how much attention the story with Luke started getting, and lo and behold, his story blew up!
A lot of my writings for pjo got more interactions too but Luke’s story genuinely did blow up and it’s still so mind boggling to me

“A hybrid?” You barely hold back a cough, the sandwich you were eating getting caught in your throat at your coworker’s surprising words.
“Don’t sound so shocked Y/N, this isn’t the first time we’ve talked about this,” Jihyo rolls her eyes, pushing her water bottle closer to you as she notices you struggling. You quickly take a sip, the cool water soothing your irritated throat.
I'm only saying this for your sake, but objectively, it's not a smart idea to bring politics into normal hobbies. You might lose supporters of your blog just because of your political stance, and that would be terrible since you're so amazing!! It's only a suggestion, but I really reccomend not bringing politics into anything.
