Keith goes off to the blades feeling like no one wants him, not even the guy he loves.
Lance misses him so much it hurts.
Keith sees their relationship in the quantum abyss. Cries over how lance kept him at a distance. Decides he's over being hurt by a boy who's really just experimenting.
He gets back and brushes lance straight off.
"I don't have time for this lance."
Suddenly lance is left confronting his actual feelings, because he doesn't want to lose keith, but in order to keep him he has to admit he's not straight and actually let their relationship be a relationship.
Except keith is avoiding him because he doesn't want to make the same mistakes all over again, fall for the boy who broke his heart.
Slowly working their way back up to being friends again, ignoring the way their relationship was before.
Then, in the final battle (can you tell I have no clue what the timeline is for the later seasons) finally telling each other they love them on a private comm line.
Waking up and running into each others rooms.
Finally kissing properly in full view of the rest of the team.
