Back and Over
Pushing Up Into It
Yards to//from you
I’m working with a dancer. When we partner I wonder why everyday can’t be mirroring and responding, allowing myself to be pushed, pulled, carried into shapes, surrendering my full weight in deep trust. Physicality is the fullest silent conversation.
I love working with dancers so much because if you open your heart, you can read each other’s minds and temporarily become the perfect vessels for each other. Then everything else falls away and there’s only the dance and feeling the shape of the limit.
I love dance because it’s a medium which requires a high level of abstraction to communicate, just like music or fragrance. All action becomes metaphor and its interpretation, which means affect is tied to access to your own body of imagination, interiority, and emotion.
