"When you stumbled upon me and stole me away, gods, yes, I was terrified of you. I had no idea who you were or what you wanted from me."

Rung cannot, will not, tear his gaze away from the hulking tank. But he wills himself to straighten his spinal strut-- to meet Tarn's gaze, chin lifted and antenna at ease, his servos clasped behind his back. He has to.

Never again the wretched plaything, never again an abused and beaten slave. He is Rung, and whatever that means is up to him. No matter the circumstances.

His oculars catch the overhead light and obscure those tired optics, but his own field is laid open for Tarn's examination as the mech pleases; stubbornness, hope, curiosity. Courage. A trace of something sore and tender underneath, like a fresh bruise.

A thin hand reaches up to Tarn, but does not touch his chassis. "What of you? How much of yourself is armor, and how much is the truth? Because at the end of the day, I prefer life to death, and I can only assume the same of others. Could I have escaped to anywhere you could not find me, Tarn?" Rung asks, softly intimate in the proximity between them. "You and I both understand having to play a role, I think. The most effective actors know to put truth in their performance. Never too much, of course, or that might shatter the illusion. But the truth, nevertheless."

His gaze lingered not on the other's optics, but on the small hand, raised yet kept at bay, held and without touch. Tarn did not fault the Siren for having been afraid. He'd heard his song calling to him, and even within its notes of fright, the murmur of something more had been irresistible, deep and potent in a way he still did not fully comprehend.

"What you see of me is the truth." Tarn answered, voice soft but sure. "I play no role, for all that remains of myself is presented by the symbol of my people." The mask was his face, and the face behind it was the imposter. "I should not have doubted you. To insist that you are wholly sincere was an unreasonable demand on my behalf."

Slowly, he raised his own hand, and gently wrapped his fingers around the Siren's small, fragile servo. "I believe the time has come for you to leave the confines of this chamber. It makes for a poor stay, and I intend to host you as my guest and not my treasure." To be locked away and enjoyed only by himself.

"You are free to explore New Kaon as you wish, and choose a function for yourself. You are correct I always find those I hunt, but I do not think I will need to do so with you." It was both an admittance of trust and a subtle threat, but he was content for now, soothed by Rung's earlier words. "You may take your picking from the available suites in the Enduring Justice."

Starscream was rather grateful when they reached the medibay. He really didn't know if he could have kept going much longer, so the knowledge that they were close to a place where he could sit and recover had him able to make the last few stilted steps until he could sit on one of the available berths. The way his wings notably sagged was a testament to just how much the wounds must have been affecting him. He looked up at Tarn, watching as he moved around the room.

He took a moment to take a self assessment, now that he was somewhere actually safe, and now that he had aggravated his wounds enough to really feel them. The open wound in the center of his chest was the worst, but he did also have a few noticeable gouges across his arms and a fairly large one that looked to be made with the same blade on his upper leg, above the knee joint. At least the wounds were no longer actively leaking energon, so that was a step in a positive direction. He'd definitely seen better days, and it certainly felt like it, as well. If he never saw his Megatron again, it would be too soon. Frankly, if he saw any Megatron, it would be too soon. Which didn't bode well for him going to this universe, but he would make due if Tarn was telling the truth about him.

When his attention was drawn to the cube, he reached out slowly and took the cube, holding it close for a moment, letting a small smile grace his features at the previous, much happier memory they had shared. A peaceful night. He looked at the energon, before he looked up at Tarn. "If this takes the edge off and lets me rest until I can be seen by your physician, then I will personally thank this Nickel." He insisted. He took a split moment to brace himself for the worst, before he tossed back the medical energon in one go.

Oh. Oh.

Despite the additive, the Seeker could still taste the burned taste that Tarn mentioned. He made a face and stuck his glossa out as he set the empty cube down. "Burnt is an understatement." He mentioned after a moment, once he'd collected his thoughts again. "I... I don't know if I can ever express my thanks for you coming to my aid, even though you hardly know me."

Tarn gave no indication of having noticed the sagging wings. Ever a polite host, he likewise made no commentary or lingering stares on his guest's many injuries. Worrisome as they were, he didn't want Starscream to feel self-conscious about them - no more than the Seeker might already be.

"I'm certain Nickel will greatly appreciate your gratitude rather than the usual complaints she receives regarding her personal blend." The tankformer spoke in a light, conversational tone, and felt quite the sympathetic pang in his spark when Starscream tossed the cube back. Doing so was much better than taking time to savour the taste, but the taste lingered much longer than it had any right to.

Tarn couldn't help chuckling a little when the Seeker stuck out his glossa. He picked up the empty cube, and placed it within a chute in the wall to be taken to a specialized cleansing chamber, where it would soak in a solution for a few hours.

"I know my next words may be difficult to believe, but I truly am glad to have aid to offer. To provide safe harbour for our people is a great honour I didn't think I would live long enough to relish." He returned to Starscream, and decided to lean against an opposite berth, demeanor more casual to affect a familiar friendliness. "Perhaps, in time, you will have the opportunity to do the same for another comrade of misfortune."

The other's EM was warm and welcoming, pressed close to his own. The medic could feel the affection, coming in as a gently rippling field. A reassuring presence, validating his work, urging him to take a moment and rest.

"They know what to do, in case of my absence. Everything could be rescheduled, of course, but it takes effort." And it would push his work onto others, no matter how little they had to do in order to keep the balance when Pharma wouldn't be present. "I'm not concerned about the hospital, as I know it won't suddenly collapse without my presence." Or so he hoped. The facility was running without his guidelines before, and he could imagine it wouldn't suddenly fall apart. It took Pharma to admit his vulnerability and tiredness to modify the schedule in order to accommodate his absence.

The tankformer came to him and rested his mask against Pharma's helm, the jet didn't move away or flinch. Cycling a soft ex-vent, he looked up at Tarn. "I know it's not because of the skills I possess, but those surely came in handy when you've met me to present the deal back on Messatine." His smile was soft, but it was there, present. After the changes in schedule were updated, the medic turned his datapad off and walked towards the door, wishing to leave the office in Tarn's company.

The walk to the tower wasn't long. Or maybe it was just enough for the jet to grow calmer instead of more agitated or upset. He was asked for a favour, and he agreed to do it. Such a simple thing. It could be simple tiredness. The tank carried the case with innermost energon Pharma left for him and yet, remained attentive. "A heated cube would be lovely. I'm quite tired and it would be beneficial to have an already heated fuel. A cube or two. Then, after I'll rest, I hope that you'll explain everything." It was obvious that he wouldn't just let it go.

"Of course." Tarn nodded his helm once at the reminder of his earlier promise. He recalled it well, and he wouldn't go back on his word now. Before long, they entered the Enduring Justice through one of its many side doors, and boarded the elevator exclusive to their suite at the top of the tower. By the time they arrived, Tarn had already contacted the cafe for three cubes of warm energon, set at a specific temperature that would pool pleasantly in the tank yet could be drunk swiftly without burning one's glossa.

Soon, the two of them were in their suite. The skyline view of New Kaon through the floor length windows was always worthy of pause, no matter the circumstances. Tarn took a moment to soak in the fruit of his work of many years, and reassured himself silently that his actions were not without reason.

"The cubes will arrive soon. I shall bring them to you if you'd like to retire to the berth chamber." The tankformer said to Pharma as he walked up to one of the paintings hung on the walls. It displayed an impressionistic rendition of the Helix Gardens, and it slowly swung aside, revealing a hidden compartment, when he pinged his code to its internal mechanisms. There was a safe built within the wall, which he opened and carefully set the box of innermost energon inside.
