Hungary‘s entire fucking democracy is a joke.
It’s a one-party, or rather, a one-ideology state. Two thirds of the most viable parties are far-right scum. One wants to limit the rights of LGBT+ individuals, feminists and ethnic minorities, the other wants EXACTLY THE SAME THING but without as much restraint and without as much keenness on capitalism, and Hungary’s only major left-wing party is likely unpopular as a result of its history.
This is a more extreme example of a nation with low accountability that is technically a democracy. Yes, there are literally one fucking party states out there but at least they don’t even try to lie about the illegality of other parties and ideologies and, as much as I hate to say it (since I dislike the politics of many of these nations too), they enjoy some degree of support because their treatment towards LGBT+ individuals and women (who are already marginalized across the world) is deemed somewhat more dignifying (well, at least in the case of parts of China and maybe Vietnam too).
This is in response to me reading about Hungary’s response to the pandemic and other legislation they’ve passed recently, and how it’s literally a Christian fundamentalist paradise, well, so long as you’re ethnically Hungarian too.
They may as well just stop putting up that illusion that they’re even a democracy and admit they’re just a Christian version of Saudi Arabia or Iran.
I could go on in regards to other nations, like Pakistan and how it’s pulled an America in terms of exemptions for public gatherings and the coronavirus, but I won’t (at least for now). I swear to God this world needs a meteor soon; it’s too fascist to be allowed to exist.
If their fellow Hungarians don’t like it, they can and will most likely leave. If they can’t leave even when the pandemic comes to pass, the establishment has two choices - change their ENTIRE FUCKING MINDSET or get blood on their hands.
