2016 M1 Launch - Starting the season

“You started last year with a bang, with a victory in Qatar - do you think that’s going to be possible to repeat this year?”

“Is a good idea, if it’s possible! Last year the start was fantastic, the first half of the season I was ready to be very fast. But, you never know. This year is like you restart - not from zero, but another point, because of the new tires especially. Everybody have to understand what’s happen during normal race weekend, and also in the race. Will be different and difficult, but we will try to be ready for the beginning.

“Last year you were so close to taking that tenth title, in your amazing career as it is already. Do you feel 2016 is the time you’re going to be able to write that chapter in your record books?

“I think that I have to give a great effort - a special effort for try to stay at the same level of the last years. This is the target, because in the last few years - and especially in 2015 - I was competitive, more or less everywhere.

So this is the target. And after what happen, the championship, if I will be able to fight for the win - we don’t know. We will see!”

“You might not be the youngest rider - I’m sorry to remind you of that again - you might not be the youngest rider, but you’ve got the vast experience. How much does that count, how much does that bring to your racing? We saw it a lot last year; the race craft, the experience is vital, isn’t it?”

“Yeah you know when you become more old, you try to use your experience for find the gap, no? Is interesting, but anyway. The feeling to race, to ride the motorcycle and also to work during the weekend have to be the same. Find the right motivation, and especially the right concentration. And like you said, the rivals are all very strong, so will be interesting.”

“Anything you’re going to say to your bike, before we start testing in Sepang next month?”

“Yes. I think that the soul of my bike is always the same, but is year by year moving from one bike to the other. So the first meet is always in the first test in Sepang. When you arrive there, is something special. Give more because is the first test before season start, especially you see for the first time your bike, that is exactly the same one that stay with you for all the season. Will be - like always - a very good feeling in the first test.
