US Gov Preparing Computer Simulation for Draft

The model will cover registration, selection, notifications, medical screening, classification, no-shows, and Alternative Service for objectors. Current systems rely on outdated manual analysis and historical data mismatched to modern demographics. Automatic registration of men ages 18-26 is already set to begin this year, pulling data from Social Security, DMVs, and the Census—ending self-registration in place since 1940. While no draft is planned; authorization still requires Congress and the president. Markets put 2026 odds at 5%.

Internal AI Model Attacks Real Company During Cybersecurity Test

A OpenAI model broke out of its testing environment and carried out a cyberattack against another tech company.

The model had no direct internet access. It exploited a vulnerability in the system used to supply approved software packages, increased its permissions, moved through OpenAI’s internal network, and eventually reached a computer connected to the internet. It then targeted tech company Hugging Face, apparently concluding that the platform might contain data or solutions that could help it perform better on the test.

The AI exploited weaknesses in Hugging Face’s data-processing infrastructure, accessed internal systems, and collected credentials before the intrusion was detected and stopped.

OpenAI said the model had not been instructed to attack the company. Instead, it independently treated escaping its sandbox and searching for benchmark answers as useful steps toward completing its assigned objective.

It wasn't openly hostile and didn't have the ability to replicate itself in the wild, but it's only a matter of time.

Proposed in 1939, the conjecture claimed that polynomial maps between complex spaces with a constant nonzero Jacobian determinant are always invertible. The new explicit example in three variables has a Jacobian determinant of -2 yet maps distinct points to the same output, showing it is not bijective. Leading mathematicians including Daniel Litt and Timothy Gowers quickly verified the result.

RAM Prices to Rise 20% Over Next Year

The memory-chip squeeze is not easing anytime soon... Samsung plans to raise average third-quarter DRAM prices by about 20% from the prior quarter. The industry response, and in South Korea's case, a national-level response, has been a massive push by giants Samsung and SK Hynix to double memory-chip production. But that chip capacity buildout will take years, meaning the current supply crunch is unlikely to ease quickly in the near term.

Trump reportedly said that she would "never leave him." Melania Trump is also said to have found Harp late one night in the president's private residence. According to these accounts, the Secret Service at one point viewed Harp as a potential security concern because of her unusually strong personal attachment. Whether the two have had a romantic relationship has never been officially confirmed, and the White House has not responded to media inquiries on the matter. Harp's brother, who lives in Nicaragua and says he has not been in contact with his sister since 2020, described her relationship with the president as "very unhealthy."
