“There was a vague, unpleasant manginess about his appearance; he somehow seemed dirty, though a close glance showed him as carefully shaven as an actor, and clad in immaculate linen.”

Euphemia had-… mixed feelings about Novigrad.
It had definitely been preferable before the advent of the Eternal Fire. The city had always been a snakepit of corruption, but now it was a corruption managed by fanatical self-righteousness - which was infinitely worse - and every street corner seemed to echo with proclamations of heresy and burning. Add to that the pervasive stink of sewage, and the entrenched frostiness towards Nilfgaardians, and one could be forgiven for feeling that the welcome wasn’t really anything to write home about.
All the same, it was a very useful sort of place. Where there was corruption, there were interesting people - people who knew things, didn’t ask questions, that sort of thing; and to someone who… occasionally… made use of the black market, that was always a valuable resource.
But it wasn’t questionable contacts she was here for - not this time.
The crisp bite of the air made the gulls’ keening all the sharper as she stood on the dockside, watching crewmen loading crates onto the deck of The Karkadann. It was a handsome ship - an Ofieri dhow - with a fearsomely horned, black-scaled beast rearing beneath its bowsprit. The crates themselves - heavy with furs, leather, cloth and resin - were, too, all bound for Ofier (as she soon would be with them), there to be exchanged for silk, spices and gold. The rich and royal of the Continent had lately developed quite the fondness for the luxuries of the South, and ships left Novigrad almost every month now for ports beyond Nilfgaard.
It might have been more efficient to travel home and board at Vorstrad; but Euphemia had already been in the North, as had her employer, and the added handful of days seemed a reasonable price to pay for more immediate convenience. All the same, Felix’s face had stuck in her mind. She’d done him the courtesy of dispatching a letter - mere minutes before she headed to the docks, in fact. A short, stilted attempt as usual - and though she’d been hopeful, it did little to ease her conscience. After all, she could give him no certain date for her return.
She forced the thought from her mind, and looked again to The Karkadann’s figurehead. Amongst all the comely, bare-breasted mermaids and maidens of Novigrad’s other vessels, it was a striking sight: its great, bladed horn and proudly arched neck far more imposing than any fragile-limbed unicorn’s. A good fit for its ship. It looked as though it could quell the ocean by sheer majesty alone; a comforting notion, given the journey ahead.
The loading of the cargo had petered out to its last few crates now - the captain visible on the deck. Close to ‘time’, then. She drew in a deep lungful of pungent, Northern air - her last for sometime - and turned at last for the gangplank–
only to nearly plant her nose in the snarl of a silver wolf medallion.
With a noise of alarm she started back; looked up at the owner… and lit up with delight.
“Geralt…!”
Leaned up against the aft railing of the ship, he produces a small, rolled vellum scroll upon which his latest contract--which had been given to him by a cloaked page boy who claimed it had been sent from Ofier--was written. The ink used was a deep shade of crimson, an uncommon color typically used by aristocracy.
“Witchers, Mercenaries, Men-Of-Arms,
I beseech you. My land has been overrun with beasts of a most vile nature. I know not what kind of creature it is that stalks my fields, but it has already killed three of my hands and I fear that number shall only increase if this is not dealt with soon. Coin is of no object to me. Bring me the head(s) of whatever is plaguing my holdings and you shall be rewarded handsomely.”
Curiously, the notice isn’t signed.
The sound of Roach’s familiar whinny breaks him of his concentration. The mare is being brought aboard the ship, but she’s clearly in no mood, the dock worker put in charge of the task seems to be having difficulties settling her down. Rolling the vellum back up, he places it into a satchel on his back and begins toward the gangplank.
Being halted unexpectedly gives Geralt a bit of a start, but when he sees who it is that he’s run into, he cannot help but smile an earnest smile. As earnest a smile as a witcher’s can be, that is. “Still as uncoordinated as ever, Euphemia.”
“I’d ask what it is that you’re doing here, but I think that would just give you an opportunity to insult my intelligence.”
Though he strikes at her with wit as sharp and as honed as the blades he carries upon his back, Geralt is elated to see Euphemia again. Elated, but weary. Wherever the antiquarian went, chaos seemed to follow. Unlucky is a word for it, he supposes, though cursed seems more apt.
“What business takes you to Ofier, then?”
♚
“And it’s my opinion, and that’s only my opinion, you are a lunatic. Just because there are a few hundred other people sharing your lunacy with you does not make you any saner. Doomed, eh?”

“If they started at one hundred, and the gentleman countered eighty, and they ended up at fifty-five, then the mistress has no idea how to haggle and deserves every loss she makes. It’s the prostitute I feel sorry for.”
One eyebrow arches steeply at the ‘helpful suggestion’, her chin lifting slightly. “I get dirty quite enough, thank you - in mud. And cobwebs. And if that’s intended as a solicitation, Master Witcher-… don’t get me wrong - you’re thoroughly delightful, but-… not really my type. Far too Nordling.”
“I wasn’t propositioning you. Just making a suggestion is all. Perhaps spending the evening with one of us dirty Nordlings is exactly what you need.” The witcher pulls just ahead of Euphemia, turning his head over his shoulder so that she may see the playful grin stretched across his pallid visage.
“You know, to broaden your cultural horizons a little.”

"What if I gave you a contract to have sex with me?"
“And pay me to have sex with you?”
A hint of a smile plays at his normally compressed lips. “Sure.”

Lilac eyes narrowed, and she wished she could make these people pay. Dragons are not slaves. Yet Emhyr seemed to think so.
The Mother of Dragons hated nothing more than slavery.
She follows as quickly as her legs allow, looking over her shoulder and relieved to see no one behind them yet. Once at the brook, Daenerys hesitates for but a moment before Geralt begins ushering her across the freezing water, quickly mounting the horse with the Witcher.
“Where are we going?” She asks, her voice firm, though there’s a shakiness to it.
As the witcher unties his mount, he grumbles frustratedly. “Thought you might have some idea of that.”
Just how foreign is Dany? Foreign enough, it seems, to not know her way home from the continent. “To Oxenfurt, then. Perhaps someone there will know of the place you come from and be able to point us in the right direction.” He continues, handing Rhaegal up to Dany.
Vaulting over Roach’s saddle, he takes the horse’s reigns into his hands and gives them an urgent tug. The mare whinnies, taking a few steps backward. Looking back at Dany as Roach begins to stride down the dirt road leading out of the village, his eyes burn with conviction.
“I’ll see you home.”

Daenerys’ brow furrows, frustrated she must be on the run. She despised the power hungry, the oppressors of this world.
Seeing he has her other dragons in hand, her hold on Drogon tightens a little and she heads toward the back door, exiting into an alley. The petite woman’s head looks this way and that, but she isn’t afraid. Not for herself, anyway. Neigh, she only feared for her dragons.
“Lead the way, sir Geralt. I shall come back for my horse later if necessary.”
Silver was a loyal mare, smart as a whip. If Dany didn’t return, she would find her way to her rider sooner or later. The filly had her ways.
Geralt can hear the sound of the guards cursing as he and Dany make their way out the back entrance of the inn, heading down into a ravine that leads away from the village.
Fortunately for them, the witcher had tied his horse down to a tree just outside the settlement. Roach will do her fair share of bitching when she sees that she’ll have to ferry not just another passenger, but cargo as well. Regardless, there’s no finer mare in all the world.
“Follow me,” he instructs Dany, holding one dragon close to his breast. The other seemed content to ride upon his shoulder. Night has fallen, making it a bit more difficult to navigate the thick brush, but they will manage. They have to.
They come to the edge of small brook, where on the other side, Roach impatiently stamps her feet. Geralt urges Dany across the babbling water. “Go, they’re coming.”
“Sure I do, but a man of the road can’t be so particular when he’s in need of coin. Practically glorified mercenaries, we witchers. But don’t go telling Vesemir I said that. He’d tan my ass for sure.”

“They were a wedding gift to me.” She begins, “Well, three dragon’s eggs that were never to hatch. Ever since they did, by some miracle, they’ve taken me as their mother. I imagine they will grow more reckless the older they get, and I fear if the Niflgaard continue to behave this way, I may not be able to prevent the deaths that follow.”
Another dragon, a cream scaled little fellow with gold markings, leapt over as well, but instead of on the Witcher, it was on the table sniffing at his hand and tankard.
“Viserion seems to like you as well.”
“I am Daenerys Targaryen. My people have a history with dragons.” She replies, taking the slightly larger black scaled dragon in her arms, fingers tracing the red markings. “This is Drogon. He’s the more… aggressive of the three. I worry about him the most.”
The Innkeep, having finally found the courage in himself to move, comes around the bar and walks slowly toward the door, side-eyeing Daenerys and her trio of dragons. Geralt sees the man slithering toward the door, but says nothing. Once the keep has left, the witcher gets to his feet with urgency.
“Can continue this later,” he tells her, grabbing his swords from the back of his chair and throwing them over his shoulder. “We have to go.”
Geralt has a more keen sense of hearing than most and can just barely make out the sound of metal chausses hurriedly making their way down the street. The last thing they can afford is to be arrested, this vassal being an annex of the Black Ones’ empire, so they must make haste. Snatching Rhaegal up into the cradle of his arm, Geralt points toward the back exit. “That way.”

“Best fantasy? Have this one I keep in the back of my mind for days on the road. I’ve just bested a vile beast–usually a different one each time–when Yen comes walking into its lair. I’m filthy, covered in entrails, but Yen doesn’t seem to care. She slams me up against the cave wall, eyes lusty and fierce, and–” He pauses to clear his throat, feeling he’s already said too much.
“Can fill in the blanks yourself.”
“As for the strangest place I’ve had sex, it was on top of a unicorn. Is on top of a unicorn. Happens pretty regularly, actually.”
