It disgusts me when people go on anon and tell people to commit suicide.
Hello. My name is Hannah.
I’m 19.
I suffer from Bipolar Disorder. Bipolar Disorder results in extreme highs and lows, known as ‘mania’ and ‘depression’ respectively.
Do you know what depression is?
Depression is when you stop caring. You stop thinking that it is worth it to do things. If it gets bad enough, it gets to the point where you start wondering if living is worth it. If it goes even further, you honestly think living isn’t worth it. At the furthest tier, it can result in suicide, although it is certainly possible to have suicide without depression.
It is very easy, shockingly easy, to go along and pretend that you are not depressed. It is a skill I have learned rather well.
Perhaps you’re sending hate messages to people on Anon? Perhaps they never react to what you are saying. Perhaps they laugh it off. So you keep sending hate messages. After all, it’s all in good fun, isn’t it? Or maybe you know them in real life, and they did something to upset you, on purpose or not. They deserve it, don’t they?
Now imagine that without warning, posting stops.
Or maybe your best friend never shows up at school or work again.
Hate messages are a form of CYBERBULLYING. It’s just as bad- no, it’s even worse- than picking on someone to their face. Because if you pick on someone to their face, they can identify you. They can do what I have done countless times, and tell someone about the abuse.
And yes, it is abuse.
If you go on anon to torment someone with hate messages, they cannot get help. For some people, it is very hard to ask for help. It is even harder to ask someone to stop. And it only gets worse when you do ask, and it is either ignored or rubbed in your face.
I have been a target of cyberbullying before, in the form of ‘flames’ left from anonymous reviewers on my fanfiction. I was able to laugh them off. Barely. Why? Because I’ve been dealing with psychological ‘warfare’ in the form of intense teasing that qualified as bullying since I was in elementary school. But all it would take is one message while I’m at the lowest end of my depression, and I wouldn’t exist anymore.
So think before you get it into your head to send a hate message to someone. Think hard, because you don’t actually know that person. And if you do know that person, think even harder.
Coming off hiatus just for this. Because it's really important.
