Life is one big optimization problem.

Had the chance to talk to some people from the Physics department yesterday. And one of them told me that he strongly believes in the sentence above. And I agree. Life is not always a smooth sailing, sometimes you have to face some strong waves, pass through storms before getting to your destination. And we figure these things out on our own timeline. According to him, he didn’t immediately pursue a PhD degree after his masters because he doesn’t know what he want yet. And he doesn’t want to do things just for the sake of it. And I couldn’t agree more. Sometimes we do things just because everyone else is doing it. He said wanted to take his time before making a decision because he doesn’t want to pursue something only to realize that it’s not what he wants when it’s too late. Again, on our own timeline. He’s done with his PhD by the way, and now a tenured professor. He is so cool! 

He said he is amazed by us, the younger ones, because we are brave to go away when we feel like things are not meant for us. He is amazed because we are not afraid to explore. Though I am not sure if I am any of those things, but it was a good talk.

Six years ago, Rick Riordan tweeted about refusing to censor some parts of House of Hades. Apparently, he was asked to do so (in 1 country) because of Nico di Angelo’s sexual orientation. I’m glad he refused and stood up for my favourite boy. I honestly believe that his story would help and inspire a lot of kids around the world. He’s one of the bravest characters in the books. 

Thank you facebook memories for the reminder. HAHA! I just want to say I love Nico so much! And solangelo is probably my first mlm ship! Or is it malec (shadowhunters)? Or is it larry (1D)????

Woke up earlier than my alarm today. (Who the hell uses an alarm in this quarantine anyways? What is time and space even? Feels like we’re in the Jeremy Bearimy timeline that The Good Place talks about) Anyway, to my surprise, I woke up in a really good mood today. You know that feeling when you were still a kid, when classes were suspended because of an upcoming storm, and then it didn’t rain at all? And all is well because you don’t have anything planned to do but to sleep in and watch you favorite shows? Yep, that’s how it feels. Wow. Never felt this good in the morning in a long time. Wondering how long this would last? We’ll see.

What’s been keeping you sane lately?

Been following this account called “we’re never really strangers” on instagram that posts about self-assessment, how to process our thoughts, how to change our perspective when it comes to relationships with other people and with ourselves. Just few hours ago, they asked the question, what’s been keeping you sane lately? and I took a moment to make a list on my mind. Here are the things that came up to me:

1. Learning a new language. 

2. Morning visits to our small farm. I am glad my father decided to go back to maintaining our farm. Just three days ago, our goat gave birth to three kids! Just this morning we fed the babies with milk.

3. Watching (and re-watching) some good shows. Just finished The Flash season 5. Been re-watching all #arrowverse annual crossover shows up until #elseworlds. Now i’m watching #CrisisOnInfiniteEarths. I am currently on Part Three.

4. Playing with my nieces. 

5. Updating this account.

6. Cementing memories by creating videos.

I’ve been trying to stick to a routine for the past few weeks. Wake up at 6:30, do some yoga/exercise, have breakfast, take a bath, etc. I also try my best to write down my thoughts and learn some new things, all for the sake of my sanity. 

But yesterday was tough.

First time to attend a House Build with UP Gawad Kalinga - LB. Wasn’t able to take a lot of photos, i was so nervous because i thought i wouldn’t be much of a help (i’m not strong and i don’t even exercise 😅). But thanks to the kind people around me who made everything lighter, i was able to power through it! Also learned a lot by talking to the people in the community. Two tips from them: to save up, and to not get married early, which would definitely not be a problem 😜 Sore arms and tired feet aside, i’m already looking forward to the next build 😊 #sanitybreak

We spend so much time indoors. I’ve read/watched that somewhere. We go out, just to travel and go indoors again - to a mall, a restaurant, or a coffee shop. It has become the usual, and the act of going outside to read a book under a tree, or to have a picnic near a lake has become less and less of the norm. There is nothing wrong if that is your preference, but i just realised that maybe that is one of the reasons why i’m feeling trapped, or caged. Maybe the reason i’m feeling so small lately, is that I haven’t been exploring the outside. And I know I need to do something about it. Time to go out and explore. No more half-measures.

Had a five-grain cereal with greek yoghurt and soy milk for breakfast, ate spam fries for snacks (lol, so much for “clean” eating), binge-watched Lucifer the whole day, cried for the Amazon forest, listened to the rain while wrapped in my blanket, listened to some lana del rey. Sums up my wednesday. Not bad for a mid-week holiday break.
